AUGUSTA, Maine — A state panel has cleared the Christian Civic League of Maine and the Christian Education League of claims that they illegally fired a former administrative staffer and tried to intimidate him for filing a complaint.
Michael Hein worked for the Christian Civic League of Maine from June 2006 until he was fired in August 2010.
Hein told the Maine Human Rights Commission that he was retaliated against as a “whistleblower” for telling the Department of Labor that the group had an illegal working relationship with a staff writer.
The league said Hein was fired because of deep philosophical differences between him and the new leadership of the league and because of his unwillingness to change, according to the Kennebec Journal.

The new leadership at the Civic League has done an outstanding job of bringing a more civil tone to the public discussion of christian beliefs. Its important for christian values to have a seat at the table and for that voice to be a calm but truthful and purposeful advocate for what is right and wrong in todays world. To the new staff and leadership I say Great Job!
You are confusing faith with truth, there is little to no truth to Christianity. Conversatoins about your faith, fine, but do not call it truth.
At a hearing before the Maine Ethics Commission today, Mike Hein revealed that the new leadership of the Christian Civic League consists almost exclusively of Republican operatives. The purpose of this new “calm” and “compassionate” tone is to win favor with the members of the Legislature and to garner votes for the Republicans. The Christian Civic League has abandoned its mission in favor of the agenda of the Family Research Council, an organization whose largest donor was the fabulously wealthy Prinz family, owners of the Blackwater mercenary operation. The League has also backed away from any criticism of Senator Susan Collins and Senator Olympia Snowe, both of whom are outspoken advocates of partial birth abortion. In addition, the new Executive Director supported the 2005 gay rights law, and has said that “he tended to support civil unions in the past.” In addition, he has steadfastly refused to state whether or not he supports exceptions to a total ban on abortion. It is highly instructive to know that Bangor Baptist Church, where the Executive Director is a member, allowed itself to be advised by Bob Carlson, Maine’s most influential spokesman for gay marriage, homosexuality, and abortion. Those are the facts about your “Calm but truthful and purposeful advocate for what is right and wrong in today’s world.” And your tone about homosexuality sir, is exactly the same tone Bob Carlson (Bob Cbarlatan) was advocating. In addition, they have chosen as the leader of their pro-marriage effort, a divorced pastor. That is about as wise as allowing your church to be advised by Bob Carlson. I imagine that a wolf employs a calm and moderate tone just before he devours a sheep. Carlson certainly did in any case.
Looks like the difference between the League and the whistelblower concerned CCL illegal practices. That kind of valid whistle blowing should be encouraged (but hardly eve is), not penalized (but too often is). Any word on checking up on his allegations about the CCL?
