DEXTER, Maine — Police arrested a local man last week and charged him with domestic violence stalking.
Jason Miles, 38, was arrested on Jan. 16 and taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor. He was bailed out the same day.
Dexter police Sgt. Kevin Wintle said there were seven reported harassment incidents involving Miles and his live-in girlfriend.
“He pretty much wouldn’t stop contact with her,” said Wintle. “We just felt, with the totality of the complaints, there was enough there under Maine state law that it fell under stalking. That’s what we arrested him for.”
Wintle didn’t disclose many details about the incidents but did mention calls to the victim’s cell phone and other harassment.
“It was a very difficult case. That’s what’s taken us so long,” said Wintle, adding that Officers Michael Johnson and Kyle Wilson led the investigation.
Miles made bail with numerous conditions, which included no direct or indirect contact with the victim, said Wintle.
Wintle said Miles will make his initial appearance in Newport District Court on Feb. 15.

and…………….I’m sure he’ll follow his bail conditions of no contact and the women will be safe from harassment! Give me a freaking break. These stalker/harassers need to be locked up and have some counceling on “letting go.” A lock up will give them some time to get their senses back and possibly feel that they are over the compulsion to control the other person. What do I know? I just feel they need some cool off time………….
I agree lock this guy up…he will not learn. Have we not learned anything.
Why bother arresting the man? He’s already out and poses exactly the same threat as he did on January 15th.
The bail bondsman gets his $50 that way. It’s all about the money.
Tell me this isn’t going to be a repeat. …..make him wear a monitor…keep him locked up for Gods sake!!!!!!!
Sad, sad, sad. How many times do we need to read, hear, or experience stories like this where the punishment is not a punishment. I have said it before, and will say it again. This state does not take domestic violence serious enough. Our lawmakers and politicians and whoever can talk talk talk talk a good story about protecting people in domestic violence situations. I think its about time they put their money where their mouth is!
He’ll still stalk her in a vehicle. Been there. They suddenly show up everywhere, at the post office, at the grocery store, they know the schedule. Take a digital camera and take lots of pictures. I failed to do that. Wish I would have. The police look at you like you’re paranoid…uh, no, he’s in the parking lot right now. So frustrating. Like someone else said…let it go. No one wants crazy.
Someone in this young lady’s family (men) need to take this guy out for a private talk and set the personal boundaries……and then enforce the boundaries to protect this young life and prevent another domestic violence tragedy…….
You are absolutely right. The problem is when someone in the family straightens him out he will run to the cops and cry foul. Then they will have p.o.’s served on them.
Exactly. If someone were stalking my daughter, I would be stalking them, for just a minute or two.
This is ridiulous! This behavior is being repeated by the youths as well. Just recently dealt with a “young man” that decided to use Facebook to harass someone. Thankfully a call to his parents stopped the behavior … for now. If the law is so soft on adults how are our children supposed to learn right from wrong?
The laws around stalking are terrible. It makes me wonder how terrible this got before something was done. A dear, close friend of mine has been stalked for well over a year by an old friend. He has threatened her, threatened her friends, gotten her fired from her job, broken her wrist, broken into her house, and attempted to ruin her reputation. Nothing can be done because ‘she doesn’t have indisputable proof that it was him’. Everytime it’s reported, the police do nothing and the incidents get worse.
Please make laws that protect the victim, not the stalker.
As far as I can tell, I would advise all women in the Dover, Dexter, Garland, Ripley area to pack up and move out. Now go hate me for it.
Sick behavior.
And it’s not about love, it’s about rejection with deep seated insecurities.
….
To bad they don’t have a picture of this prick!
Ummmmm REALLY???….
“It was a very difficult case. That’s what’s taken us so long,” said Wintle…… ‘Dexter police Sgt. Kevin Wintle said there were seven reported harassment incidents involving Miles and his live-in girlfriend.’…sooooooo 7 reports of harassment later the police finally did their job and arrested the loser……what not waiting for another Steven Lake episode? I’m sure Miles had a 3 dollar bail and was out within 15 minutes with no consideration of the 7 previous complaints taken into account….EXCELLENT JOB.
Miles and his live-in girlfriend; isn’t that nice. The police shouldn’t even get involved in these white trash cases. You reap what you sow, let the chips fall where they may
