AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Labor Department says the state’s December unemployment rate was 7 percent, unchanged from the November figure.
Labor Commissioner Robert Winglass said Tuesday the preliminary 7 percent figure for December is also lower than the 7.5 percent rate a year earlier.
The number of unemployed totaled 48,700, down 3,800 from a year ago.
Maine’s unemployment rate for December is lower than the national rate of 8.5 percent, down from 8.7 percent in November and 9.4 percent one year ago.
The Labor Department says the state figures continue to be volatile from month to month and are subject to significant revisions.

….
He created 1 job as far as I know, and it is for the Maine State Police Trooper who sits in a chair outside useless’ office door.
Actually, he created 2 – one for the trooper – and one for his daughter.
Yessah
Wait, wait—but the Democrats…who was it…hmm, let me check….okay here is the quote from the BDN article posted January 23rd:
“Democrats also pointed out that Maine has lost 4,400 jobs under LePage’s
watch, according to the Department of Labor, while unemployment levels
have remained flat. Bennett said the unemployment rate has dropped by
more than half a percent.”
According to…um, let me see, yes the Maine Labor Department, the number of unemployed has dropped by 3800 since a year ago when LePage took office.
So, what is the truth? Did Maine lose 4000 jobs, or did 4000 Mainers find jobs? The Department of Labor does not record the 4400 lost jobs that the Democrats claim have been lost. Perhaps the reporter can clarify what the facts are, as opposed to what someone says the facts are. Apparently Ms. Bennett was the truth teller here: Maine’s unemployment rate has dropped by half a percent.
Liberals=Liars
Obamaeconmics. Tough on everyone.
Gas prices up 83% under the Speechifier in Chief..Ground Beef up 24%..Bacon…22%.
Just for the rise in bacon prices the guy should be impeached. I imagine beer prices are up too..and that would be icing on the Obama=Epic Fail cake.
Nice to know that we live in a controlled society a la the Soveiet Union where the government has price controls on everything (LOL).
Were you calling for the impeachment of George W. Bush when the price of oil went to $147 a barrel and gas and heating oil went to $4 gallon in 2008?
Bush crashed the economy and put 8.7 million Americans out of work.
Commodity prices – including oil – collapsed along with the Stock Market and the Housing Market.
Obama saved the nation from a Great Depression – and as the economy has improved so has the demand and price of oil and gasoline.
Some of us have memories – that haven’t be addled by FAUX News and Hate Radio.
It is not the liberals who are “lying” here
Nossuh
You DO realize that oil spiked very briefly under Bush, then dropped to under $40 a barrel??? And then stabilized??We have been paying THROUGH THE NOSE for oil, gas, kerosene, diesel and everyhing else (including everything that ever gets moved via truck) FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS.
But then, of course you already realize that.
Once peoples unemployment benefits run out they are not considered unemployed any longer.
Maine’s U6 Unemployment (those dropping out of the labor force and thus not counting under the BDN’s Obama friendly spin) is 15.6%
The USA’s U6 rate is 15.2%.
Obama=SCFOAMF
The last I heard the estimate for construction workers in Maine was 25% and 25% nation wide as well. These people need jobs, not excuses and political B.S.!
Your blind faith in your “party” is clouding your judgement and impeding the critical thinking process. Just look around you. Gov LePage told the truth once when he said there are more people in Maine on welfare than working. Nice call Guv….so what are ya gonna do about it ? The truth is 3800 people ran out of benefits and joined the welfare rolls, while an additional 4000 jobs were lost, making the total 7800 MORE people out of work or just plain gave up looking. These people have more to worry about than finding a job now that the Big Bully in the Blaine House wants to take away the only thing they have left. Things will continue to worsen under his lack of leadership until he is finally recalled…which I hope comes soon. BTW I have an income that I can live comfortably from, but I DO have to live with other people in the neighborhood, who are becoming more desperate everytime this Bozo Governor is looking for a new defenseless group to pick on. He should get out in the street more….the desperation is growing under his watch….revolution is in the air….
According the D.O.L. once your U.I. benefits run out you are no longer unemployed.
My name says it all
I blame Bush.
Oh wait………
I seem to remember a campaign promise about attracting jobs….hmmm ??? I guess the Governor is too busy trying to find new people to bully that he thinks are defenseless, to actually worry about his State’s lack of jobs. People don’t strive to get on welfare…they are forced to because there’s no work. At this point he would do well to try and stop the companies that are leaving due to his poor leadership. Hopefully Maine will survive the LePage ordeal, and take the chance to get a real Governor next election. A recall wouldn’t be a bad idea if the people want to minimize the damage this Bozo is doing to your State. Good Luck…you’re gonna need it….. 61% er !
