RUMFORD, Maine — Police arrested a man after a woman called 911 to report he punched out her two front teeth early Tuesday morning.

John Messier, 41, of Rumford, was arrested by Rumford police officer Bradlee Gallant and charged with aggravated assault, Capt. Dan Garbarini said.

At 2:05 a.m., a woman dialed 911 from an apartment on Waldo Street and reported that she had been assaulted and her two front teeth had been punched out, Garbarini said.

Officer Gallant and Sgt. Douglas Maifield responded to the home and arrested Messier, Garbarini said.

Med-Care ambulance also responded and transported the woman to Rumford Hospital.

A charge of aggravated assault is normally used when a weapon is involved but Garbarini said in this case the Class B charge was used due to the nature of the woman’s injuries.

Conviction on the Class B charge could bring a sentence of up to 10 years.

Messier was transported to the Oxford County Jail and was released after posting $1,000 bail, a jail official said Tuesday afternoon.

Messier is set to appear in Rumford District Court on March 6, but Garbarini said the case may be moved to Superior Court once the district attorney reviews the case.

  1. I hope this lady is ok. This guy should be careful when he beats up women. Someday, he may find one that will beat the snot out of him. Won’t his Mama be proud then?

  2. $1000.00 bail???  Well we certainly have learned a great deal from the Steven Lake incident haven’t we whoever set the amount of the bail.  Pfffffffft.

  3. If his sentence could be 10 years, then maybe a good rule of thumb would be set his bail at $1000 per year.

  4. A real tough guy. Reminds me of the commercial on tv about the guy with the eye patch. When you have an eye patch people think your tough and then they want to find out just how tough. That’s when you wake up in a ditch.

  5. Were there any witnesses??? Or did they just arrest him for being a man that the women knew. Where is the rest of the story??? Before we judge him let see the police report on evidence/proof
