HOWLAND and LAKEVILLE – Laurel W. Ham, 85, wife of the late Lawrence Blake Ham, passed away Jan. 25, 2012, at a Howland health care facility. She was born May 7, 1926, at Bunker Hill Farm, Winn, daughter of William G. and Maye M. (Farrington) Whitney.
Laurel graduated from Winn High School as valedictorian of the class of 1943. She attended University of Maine, graduated from Sisters Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. In 1949, she was awarded the Linda Richards Award as outstanding graduate of Maine School of Nursing. She was employed at Lincoln Hospital for many years.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Clifton E. Whitney, Hannah D. Whitney, Hopia O. (Whitney) McDonough and Everett F. Whitney.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Tuesday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children or Springfield Congregational Church.
