ORONO, Maine — University of Maine public safety officers are seeking two males who are believed to have set a small fire in a campus field early Thursday afternoon.
The fire was discovered about 2:10 p.m. in a field off Rangeley Road, across from Bangor Savings Bank, by two electricians employed by the university, UMaine spokesman Ron Lisnet said.
The electricians, who saw smoke and stopped to investigate, put the fire out themselves, Lisnet said, adding that the fire burned a patch of dry grass measuring about a foot or 2 in diameter.
The electricians described the suspects as being white males in their late teens or early 20s, Lisnet said. One was wearing a brown Carhartt jacket and the other was wearing a gray sweatshirt, he said.
The two last were seen running toward Talmar Wood Apartments, which has an entrance drive on Rangeley Road, he said.
Anyone with information about the incident should call UMaine’s Public Safety Department at 581-4040.

Wow, education 101…..way to use it idiots……..arsonists. Get a book or a hobby that doesn’t involve matches or a Beavis and Butthead attitude. Not funny. Mom and dad will be happy when you brag about it this weekend and get busted. Congrats.
Could be wannabe Rocket Scientists …..or the real thing. Don’t stifle them.
Darned electricians! Spoiling a good combustion experiment! Probably Sparky and Amp tracing down some ‘shorts’ out on Park St.
A foot or two in diameter? That whole field looks like it could’ve gone up in 30 seconds.
Anyone check the football locker room?
It’s interesting that we are talking about a field on fire in January. Usually fields are covered with more than two feet of snow.
I just heard that Sheriff Glenn Ross called to notify them that thay were under investigation for this…Good Luck with your search!!
May want to check the Narrows Bridge
Head into Talmar, and offer a reward of 100$ to game stop to anyone that can get these two guys. (I’m sure these amazing members of society have been bragging about it
This most likely isn’t their first dum ba$s move…. I’m sure the managers of talmar would cooperate in handing over the names of troublemakers matching that description.
