NEWPORT, Maine — A local woman emerged unscathed after rolling her vehicle on Interstate 95 Thursday morning.
Colleen Longmuir, 58, of Newport was driving home when she fell asleep, according to Maine state Trooper Brenda Coolen.
Longmuir was the only person in the car, and no other vehicle was involved. Police were called at 9:56 a.m., said Coolen.
“She fell asleep and went over to the rumble strip [on the left side of the road]. When she woke up, she was startled, overcorrected to the right and skidded across the road,” said Coolen. “It flipped her and she landed on her roof, right in the woods.”
Coolen said motorists stopped and helped Longmuir out of the car.
Longmuir didn’t have a scratch on her, Coolen said.
“I was amazed,” she said. “It was her lucky day.”
Longmuir’s 2005 Toyota Corolla was demolished, said Coolen. The crash occurred just before Exit 159, southbound on I-95.
“She was less than a mile away from home,” said Coolen.
The Newport Fire Department also responded to the call.
“I was amazed,” she said. “It was her lucky day.”
Maybe I just view the world differently because I would not consider this her lucky day.

She did have her seat belt on. The passenger compartment was un-intruded by external objects or damage. Considering the speed factor, and tree impact, I would give high marks to the people at Toyota.
