HOULTON, Maine — Three of four individuals accused of burglarizing a Linneus home while the owners were at a funeral remain free on bail as they await a March court hearing on the case.

Amanda Berry, 26, of Weston, Cheryl Sawyer, 32, of Linneus and Halston Wiley II, 30, of Houlton appeared in Aroostook County Superior Court before Justice E. Allen Hunter late last week. The state is seeking to merge the cases.

The fourth individual charged in the October 2011 incident, 33-year-old Philip Buzzeo of Houlton, remains in Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

Attorneys for all parties agreed to scheduling of a status conference in March, but the cases could go to the grand jury before then.

The burglary occurred on Oct. 3 while the family of local businessman Darrell McGuire attended his funeral. Wiley is related to members of the McGuire family.

The burglars took jewelry, guns, prescription medications and other small items, according to police. The suspects were captured a few days later.

Berry was charged with burglary, theft, violation of conditions of release and possession of drugs. Wiley was charged with burglary and theft. Sawyer and Buzzeo were charged with receiving stolen property and burglary.

When a frail Wiley appeared in court, his attorney told Hunter that he is “gravely ill.” The attorney said Wiley had just been released from Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after having heart surgery and needs additional surgery in the future.

    1. i realize he commited a crime but he still deserves surgery like any other individual. he has a child that needs him.

      1. Needs him for what? To teach him the ropes on how to pull slimeball thefts?
        Ya, a great father figure…..

    2. Do  2  Wrongs make a Right? It will just satisfy your hunger for revenge…  Thats not Right! no matter what items were stolen, they can be replaced, …

  1. He deserves nothing! He and his friends robbed his family while they were mornin a great man….People like him make me sick

  2. All of these “suspects” need to have their histories THOROUGHLY reviewed before sentencing….Every single one of them are NOT strangers to the “system”!

  3. “When a frail Wiley appeared in court, his attorney told Hunter that he is “gravely ill.” What does THAT have to do with his commiting burglary and theft. Judge Hunter, If you find Wiley guilty, throw the book at him and forget the word “Suspended”. He should have thought about his son along time ago. Sorry Bleeding Hearts, NO sympathy for him.

  4. Do You believe this crap??    Wiley is gravely ill yet he”s in good enough condition  to break into houses to steal from this woman.  Give me a break.  Lock them up and throw away the keys.

    1. he just recently became ill in december. unfortunately drugs make people do horrible things and they unfortunately take over ones mind and turn them into someone they themselves dont even recognize.

      1. I agree with you, He didn’t kill anyone, let the punishment fit the crime, we don’t need a death to occur because he robbed a home…That dosen’t really make any sense, And No I’m Not Related! , Im just  thinking rationally….BE REAL NOW!

    2. I “think” Wiley is the nephew of this lady, if I remember right. They had mentioned it in one of the first articles when this happened..

  5. I hope all four get what they deserve when they do finally end up before a judge or jury.  How sickening to think of preying on a family when they are at their weakest.  Shame on all four of them!
