ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Stonington man has been found guilty of criminal trespass and operating a motor vehicle after revocation but was acquitted of five other charges after a trial this week in Hancock County.

Raymond Welch, 28, was found innocent of charges of two counts of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault, assault and terrorizing. A jury reached the verdict Tuesday after a two-day trial in Hancock County Superior Court.

The charges stemmed from a December 2010 incident at another man’s home in Stonington.

According to Mary Kellett, assistant Hancock County district attorney, Welch was accused of driving to the man’s house, though his license had been revoked, and of accosting two men at the house. Welch allegedly drove into the driveway, honked his horn, and after the two men came out, allegedly accelerated his truck at each man. One victim reported that Welch actually struck him with the Dodge truck, causing the victim’s arm to break through the plastic grille on the front of the vehicle, Kellett said Friday. No one was seriously injured in the incident.

Kellett added that Welch confirmed he had gone to the house but insisted he was driven there by someone else.

Welch’s defense attorney, Pasquale Perrino of Augusta, did not return a message left Friday afternoon at his office.

Welch is expected to be sentenced in Hancock County Superior Court on Feb. 2, according to court documents.

  1. Another case of trumped up charges and a costly show trial by a deranged prosecutor.
Isn’t Mary Kellett facing disciplinary actions for falsifying evidence against innocent men?

The public has a right to know when a prosecutor is a potential criminal.  Juries have a right to know that prosecutors can be pathological liars and criminals.  Come on BDN.  Inform the public.
