BANGOR, Maine — Waterfront Concerts has announced the next show in this summer’s lineup. Godsmack, who had a popular show during the 2010 concert series, will return to the Bangor Waterfront on May 18, with co-headliner Staind.

The Mass Chaos Tour kicks off April 13 in Georgia, and will make its way through the country until the Bangor date, which will be the last of the tour. Opening the show will be Black Stone Cherry. Tickets will go on sale Friday, Feb. 3, and are priced at $47.50 for general admission. There is no word yet on whether this year’s show will again feature an array of local bands, as 2010’s concert, billed as “Smackfest,” did.

Staind’s seventh release, a self-titled album, debuted at number five on the Billboard charts in September 2011. Their song, “It’s Been a While,” was the rock song most played on the radio of the decade. Godsmack’s fifth album “The Oracle” was released in 2010, and a new album is slated for a mid-2012 release.

The Godsmack and Staind show is the fifth show announced in the 2012 Waterfront Concert series. The other shows include Trans-Siberian Orchestra on May 9, Rascal Flatts and Little Big Town on July 9, Keith Urban on Sept. 1 and Jason Aldean on Sept. 2.

  1. My vote is to bring the Allman Brothers or Pearl Jam.
I was really dissappointed when Gregg cancelled last year!

  2. I really like the waterfront concert series, and I am sure it does a lot to bring people to the downtown area,  but I have to say it is WAAAY too expensive.  If you were to go and see these shows at any other venue in any other city, you wouldn’t be paying $50 a ticket.  I have seen both of these groups perform in Norfolk, VA for less than $20 a ticket.   Maybe concert promoters have to pay them more to come here, I don’t know.  For many in the area, it will be very difficult to squeeze more than one of these shows into their tight budgets.   I guess I’m just saying, it would be nice if prices were low enough that more people could consider going.

    1. I recently checked into Van Halen tickets at the TD Garden through Live Nation, most seats were at least $250.  Ugly no doubt.  $50 to see Godsmack AND Staind seems like a relative bargain comparatively.  Alex has done a good job in mixing it up so there is something for virtually everyone.  I guess people need to pick and choose wisely if $50 per ticket is not in the budget.

          1. Agreed ! However I wouldn’t pay 250 for ANY seat….lol….my guess is Diamond Dave will tire of the Van Halens before the tour even gets going…..they can ALL be replaced except for Dave…..when will the Van Halens realize that ?

      1. Considering the TD Garden is a huge stadium in the center of Boston, I could understand why prices are high for that venue, compared to Bangor’s outdoor concert series. There are also more people in the Boston metro that could easily afford obscene ticket prices, like $250. I guess it just varies by location, and how greedy musicians and concert promoters are. For instance, when I go to see family in Norfolk this March, I plan to see Chevelle play, at the Norva, for only $23 dollars. The same place that I have seen godsmack and staind, for far less than $50. The Norva is a small venue, but manages to attract big name bands, for reasonable prices. Apparently, that is not possible on the Bangor waterfront. I was not criticizing the performances they were able to book, only the prices they are charging.

        1. Bands will also pick up shows if they can make some extra money and the location is near by on the route, so it helps to be near a large population center where they are likely to pass through for the next show.

          1. Thanks for the reasonable response. Unfortunately, some people have to turn every topic into an argument about politics. Yours sounds the most like a reasonable answer to my curiosity, considering the Norfolk metro area has a higher population than the entire state of Maine, and Maine probably isn’t along most tour routes. I also based my response from the fact that, for several years, I was a manager at the Ticketmaster offices that were located in Virginia Beach. That said, I understand ticket prices have likely gone up since I was employed at that office. I wasn’t factoring the cost of traveling to VA, mainly because I will be going there to visit family, not just for a concert. It is kind of too bad that we don’t have a local venue, like The Norva, which is small, but well known for attracting big name acts. It is also locally owned, so that might factor into why their prices are so reasonable. Who knows, I’m sure it is probably the combination of a number of factors. Still, It would be nice if prices were lower, so budget conscious people, like myself, could attend more than just one of the concerts.

          2. You can see Chevelle in Portland for $25. Bangor has the national average on ticket prices. I am not rich, but I managed to make it to over 20 concerts in the last two years on the waterfront. And not cheap seats, I spent many a concert with band spit flying over my shoulder. he he. Waterfront Concerts makes it VERY affordable for those who don’t want to travel to New Hampshire or Mass. Gas, lodging, meals all factor in. What did I do? I moved to the waterfront. Duh!

        2. I meant no disrespect.  I was simply trying to point out that the prices for shows in Bangor are actually much more reasonable than in other areas that I patronize.  I would suspect that in Van Halen’s case,  Roth and the Van Halen’s despise each other so much that they want to make as much $ as possible to make it worth their while to tolerate each other.  It wouldn’t surprise me if it blows up mid-tour.

          1. None taken, I completely agree on Van Halen. I can’t imagine they will sell too many shows at that price, but then again some people are crazy fans. I relocated back to the state a couple years ago, so pretty much all of my concert experiences were had down south. After a few clicks of the mouse, I was able to see it just happens to be that ticket prices are cheaper at the small locally owned venues I’ve been to, in places like Memphis or Norfolk.

      2. Van Halen could’ve been a legend…..COULD HAVE BEEN…..they had the sound but just couldn’t get along and decide who was the “lead man”….what a waste ! I’m their age now and I wouldn’t pay a dime to see them together again….If I want to think about what could’ve been I can just stay home and throw on the LP……lol. Diamond Dave, who IMO was without doubt the lead man, still sounds pretty damn good ! Most high school kids that play can mimic Eddie though…..

    2. What year was it you went to a concert for $20 a ticket in VA ? you could always goto ticketmaster compare the prices of tickets, they are relatively the same price.. Don’t worry about people squeezing money out of there budget for the shows. the ones that collect tanf, always have enough in the budget to goto a concert.

      1. As I said in a previous response, I will see a concert at the Norva in VA, this year, for $23. Something you can also find on ticketmaster. If I wanted to bring two friends to a concert in Bangor, it will end up costing over $150 just to get inside the gate, and then you have to think about overpriced refreshments and so on. For people like myself, that have only moderate incomes, and families to support, it is a strain to pay that much per ticket, especially when you could take your whole family to a theme park for roughly the same price. That was just a plain rude and disrespectful response to my comment. Does everything have to turn into an insult on the poor or welfare recipients?

        1. how much more would it cost you though to travel to VA for a concert.  I don’t think there has been one big name concert that I’ve been to in Maine that cost less than 40 bucks.  But it is a lot of money and I’d rather spend it on gas to go somewhere to fish.  Concerts are going to cost less when you are in other parts of the country where the population is much more and the place they hold the concert can hold much more people.

          1. Yup…you got it. The promoters won’t even look at a venue unless it seems proftable so in order to bring us the good bands….unfortunately we have to pay more : (  Every show I’ve seen there is well worth it…especially those Celtic chicks….Mmmmm….lol….

        2. Don’t let the LePage clone get to ya bud ! You are correct. The cost is pretty high in Bangor because of the limited seating….but tell ya what….since my girl who gets TANF is gonna go for free on MY dime….she said she’ll buy you and your friends a cold one…on Roy : )

      2. And so they should ! Just because they are having a rough time are they supposed to sit home and die, just to please you ? At least the “ones that collect TANF” aren’t cryin about the ticket price……of course that’s largely because YOU are paying for it ! Lmao….Maybe for you Roy, a nice night listening to your God Paul LePage praise himself might be a better show ?? BTW Roy…there’s a real cute girl up my way that gets TANF cuz her WORKING hubby deserted her with 2 kids……she will be sitting in the front row for nothing because I am paying the bill. If you don’t mind we have a King Riverside room at Hollywood reserved for the 18th as well…..People are people and maybe when you learn that you won’t be so miserable in your own life…hmmmm….I bet she’d look real good in a Godsmack T-Shirt…So Roy….what are YOU doin on the 18th ??

    3. The limited seating always brings ticket prices up….Big name bands select their venues by dollars, not by area. I will gladly pay the inflated price rather than drive from 50 miles north of Bangor, all the way to Portland. Besides…with any luck I can win the ticket amount before the show at Hollywood Slots…and if not ? Well I can’t think of a better place than Bangor to “drop” some revenue….Lol. I’m still waiting for Bangor to take advantage of their heritage and make a Dark Shadows theme park….lol. Mr King ? Are you listening ?

  3. Carefull of the Bangor Bathsalter’s at these concerts.. I hear it’s an epidemic in the Bangor area… The police ads prove it really not safe to hang around that part of Bangor.. Please don’t expose your children to this new culture of bathsalt use sweeping the Bangor area.. Be prepared to protect yourself with pepper spray and what ever other method you are comfortable with, when attending concerts…

      1. Hopefully Alex books no more country concerts—they are way too loud—bring either Kiss or Aerosmith back to Bangor—-they were constant visitors in the 70s when the auditorium was relevant………….

        1. A new Civic Center would be awesome for Bangor….little city is doing great considering the economy. There is no other place in far northern Maine to have a good night out….I mean now with Diva’s out of the pic….lol…..NOT….

    1. I was thinking the same thing, only on a more comical note. Crazed bathsalters can only add to the entertainment value of my ticket price. Besides I’m Federally licensed to carry anywhere and will be bringing my Sig Sauer .32 tucked in my ….oh…that’s a secret !

    1. They are playing on my front lawn, he he. I was there at SmackFest. I hope you were too. Or was you sitting home wondering when The Beatles are coming? Actually, that was last year. :)

      1. Nah thinking more along the lines of Rush or Maiden.  Being a musician myself, I like to see bands with a little more technical talent than the average person listens to.

        1. Rush ? Maiden ?…I’d be down for that ! I don’t see how either is more technical than Godsmack and Staind though ?? If Alex Lifeson kicked the dope habit that would be nice…last time I saw them he couldn’t even stand up…Neil Peart is a great drummer but his technical skill just kind of “overqualifies” him for RUSH….Go check out Mass Chaos…bang your head around…chack out the babes…never know…you may like it !

  4. I think the concerts are great for the area, however I am only 5 ft tall and the one and only show I went to I could not see anything since everyone was standing.  I don’t live that far away from the waterfront, so I spend my time in my back yard and listen to the music for free.
