BANGOR, Maine — A 29-year-old woman called police Friday afternoon to say that a man had just punched out a window on her car. She hung up, but it didn’t take long for police to find the damaged vehicle and arrest the man, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

Officers Paul Colley and Kevin Haefele spotted the car on Broadway just after 4 p.m., and Edwin Guzman, 23, of Bangor was “pacing aggressively around” it, the sergeant said.

Guzman had blood on his hands and the woman who made the call for help was locked inside the car, which had a smashed rear passenger-side window, Edwards said.

Guzman and the victim, who are in a relationship, were uncooperative with police but officers gathered enough information to charge him with domestic violence criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released, Edwards said.

Guzman has a criminal record, according to Bangor Daily News archives. He was convicted of domestic violence assault, criminal mischief, and refusing to submit to arrest or detention and sentenced in November 2009 to five days in jail for each crime. He also was fined $300 for the domestic violence assault. He has an assault conviction from September 2009, the BDN listings state. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. These criminals will NOT change their behavior until they actually see some consequences! How many do we read about that just keep doing the same thing? When it comes to criminals like this, we as a society have to stop worring about the cost to incarcerate and get them off the street, where they pose a danger to almost anyone. Then,as time goes on, the criminals will realize there are consequences to their actions, they will lose their freedom, and maybe will stop repeating the same behavior. When I say as a society,I also mean our lawmakers, and Judges.

  2. Of COURSE they were uncooperative!  He is just so passionate about his love for her and didn’t do anything wrong!  Besides, she MADE him punch the window because he saw her and the cashier at the local mini mart where she just bought her smokes giving each other the eye of the tiger and he just can’t stand the thought of losing her!  Ahhhh, true love….

  3. Another one…… What a scumbag. Thank the idiots who make the rules for the juveniles. Teach them young and they will learn! Give them what they want and this is what you end up with!! The law doesn’t apply to these punks!
