BANGOR – Arthur Carl Larson, 88, died Jan. 30, 2012, at a local assisted living center. He was born June 8, 1923, in International Falls, Minn., son of Arthur Carl and Emma (Edberg) Larson.

He attended schools at Falls and Oberlin College with a degree in forestry. Art was proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in World War II from 1942 to 1945. On Sept. 3, 1949, he married Mary Patricia Dougherty, the mother of his seven children. His career in forestry and woodlands management brought his family from Minnesota, where he was employed with Boise Cascade, then to Freeport Grand Bahama at Out Island Timber Co., and finally settling in Maine, where he worked at Diamond International, Old Town, until his retirement. He loved golf and fishing with his family and enjoyed his grandchildren immensely.

Art was predeceased by his loving wife of 44 years, Pat; daughter, Mary Jean Tanis; and sister, Ruby Olsen. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Cullen Larson and her two sons, Patrick and Daniel; six children, Michael Larson and his wife, Joleen, Molly Larson and her husband, Adrian Humphreys, Margaret Gray and her husband, Vance, Patricia Heath and her husband, Jack, Nancy Eremita and husband, Joe, and Kara Bates and her husband, Bob; 14 grandchildren, Emily Higgins, Jeremy and Chris Tanis, Matthew Cammack, Laura O’Brien, Vance Gray III, Erin Gray, Margaret and Emma Heath, Alex, Marc and Nikki Eremita, Nicholas and Jack Bates; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Palm. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment with military honors will be held at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
