BANGOR, Maine — A transient and another man who lists the Hope House as his address were arrested Saturday at the shelter for people struggling with drugs and alcohol, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.
About 4:50 p.m., “there were three or four people warned about yelling and threatening,” and one, Levi Lucas, 26, disregarded the warning, the sergeant said.
“Levi got out of control and was arrested” for disorderly conduct, Edwards said.
Lucas is listed as a transient. Police returned to the shelter just after 7 p.m. and arrested a second man, Sander Svensson, 22, who had been warned earlier for “swearing and being offensive,” the sergeant said.
Svensson, who lists the Hope House as his residence, fought with Officer Mike Brennan and was charged with refusing to submit to arrest as well as disorderly conduct. Both Lucas and Svensson were taken to the Penobscot County Jail and later were released, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

When you are so far down that you list the Hope House as your address- would it not make sense to shut up and hope to God that you are not forced onto the street?
Not if you view Hope House as an entitlement.
Those that abuse government assistance set their sites way higher than the Hope House. Free rent, food, and health care to name a few. Maybe old Levi here hasn’t learned the ropes yet, he will- if he doesn’t land in jail where everything is free as well.
He just got out of jail!
You know when you can tell that the birth canal was a challenge?
Some may view the Hope House as a way “up” and not “far down” as you put it. Hence the name “”Hope””. But at the same time you’ll have to understand that there are a lot of people that go there that are suffering from emotional, mental, physical, and addictive problems. They tend not to “make sense” the same as other people. They need empathy not sarcasm.
I respect your view, however some of these people are just one step away from some really big problems. Coddling them does not help them.
They both should be permanently barred from ever entering Hope House again. I’m sure there are others in the area that are much more deserving of a place to stay, and won’t cause any trouble.
Maybe they should be sent to Palm Beach, Florida and go python hunting…
two more up and coming losers for taxpayers to support.. they should have to get in a room full of people that have to support them and explain what they think is there problem and get a vote for help or for the street
I’m more bothered about our tax dollars supporting big corporate bailouts (basically taxation without representation, the same reason we left England hundreds of years ago). And to fund unjust wars based on no real evidence to support it (again taxation without true representation). Sure there are a lot of poor people that use the system but they are only getting crumbs compared to Government Tax Abuse / insider trading, Corporate Ponzi schemes, Pharmaceutical drug pushers, and the fundamental flaw that the rate of inflation is rising faster than the rate of pay – which means that in 1950 your money would have gone 3 times farther than that of today even if you got paid less in 1950. All this means is that the lower-middle class all the way down to the poor & homeless aren’t really getting that much of a hand out of any kinds. We seem to live in a Kingdom hidden within the illusion that we live in a Free Capitalist Democracy. It’s just that some of us peasants are better off than those that are homeless. But look around your creepy run down overly renovated apartment or home. We are all 1 paycheck away from crisis. At least some of these homeless already know how to survive. I can’t say I agree with this mans actions but at the same time most of us simply can not relate to the world he lives in.
totally none news worthy!! great story BDN!
Those men have that much energy – put them all to work.
I mean, His right ear says it alll lolz smh these folios….
keep feeding them stray cats Bangor & this is what you get.
And the City of Bangor gives out rent vouchers to some of the residents
there to stay month after month while waiting for their disability to be
approved. Great system-reward them with housing and food and allow them to
drink all on our buck.
Levi, Levi, Levi, all you had to do was be quiet. You didn’t listen and the police were called. You gave up a warm place to sleep and a meal just so you wouldn’t have to shut up. Never mind, Jail has those things as well. My bad for not paying attention.
