HOULTON, Maine — Police say that an unlocked, running vehicle Monday afternoon proved too tempting for a man who had been released earlier that day from the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
Houlton police Lt. Dan Pelletier said that a Caribou man stole a vehicle from an alley between the Houlton Pioneer Times newspaper building and another structure around 4 p.m.
According to Pelletier, Jason Anovic, 31, of Caribou discovered the vehicle which had been left unlocked and running while the operator was nearby.
He had just been released from the jail in Houlton, but information on why he was incarcerated was not immediately available. The jail is across the street from the Pioneer Times building.
Anovic reportedly stole the vehicle and headed toward Hodgdon.
The vehicle was quickly located by Maine State Police, and Anovic was stopped less than an hour later near the Amity-Cary town line.
State police Sgt. Tom Pelletier said Tuesday that Anovic was rearrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

maybe the jail should give a list of laws upon release
Apparently there was not enough oxygen in the jail….
