EDINBURG, Maine — An elderly Massachusetts man was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to a Bangor hospital Friday after his car veered off Interstate 95 just north of mile marker 211, state police said.
Henry Fournier, 79, of Haverhill, Mass., was northbound when his Chevy Caprice apparently veered through the passing lane, hit the rumble strip, then veered back across the traveling lane and went more than 100 feet off the road down an embankment at about 11 a.m., state police Sgt. David Millett said.
Fournier was semiconscious at the scene and apparently suffered cuts to his face and hands. He was being evaluated at Eastern Maine Medical Center and was listed in fair condition on Friday, a hospital spokesman said.
Excessive speed might have caused the accident, Millett said.
The speed limit in that area is 75 mph.
Northbound highway traffic was stopped for at least an hour as rescue workers smashed a window to help free Fournier and the helicopter landed on the highway, state police said. The traffic was backed up for several miles.
Ambulances from the Old Town Fire Department and Penobscot Valley Hospital of Lincoln responded to the accident report, as did the Howland Fire Department, Millett said.

Im glad he didnt kill him self and anybody else.
He is a long way from home.
With a name like Fournier, he might have been going to the County to visit someone he knew or was related to. It is a long trip to make alone though … at any age.
Was it a man or a woman? You seem to have a hard time knowing which is which.
What are you talking about? Here’s some clues form the article:
” An elderly Massachusetts man was flown by LifeFlight helicopter ”
“Henry Fournier, 79, of Haverhill, Mass., was northbound when his Chevy Caprice”
“apparently suffered cuts to his face and hands.”
Your clues are: MAN, HENRY, and HIS.
I think deerhntr was looking at the “similar articles” boxes down below the story and saw the photo with the caption “Millbridge woman. . . .” That’s my charitable surmise.
Trouble with reading comprehension? The headline says “man”, the caption under the picture says “man”, the very first sentence says “man” and “his”, the second paragraph says “Henry” and “his”, and the third paragraph says “his.” I’m going to go out on a limb here, and guess that he’s a male.
You guys keep surmising Deerhntr can r e a d !
“An elderly Massachusetts man’ … “his Chevy Caprice”” … ‘suffered cuts to his face and hands. He was being evaluated'” clearly it was a man.
He had one 2 weeks ago that said”an unidentified woman in the picture”, I can tell you for sure it was not a women in the picture.
Was she/he from Lubec?
What does that have to do with anything?
Ever seen some of gurlz from Lubec?
uummmmmm……..I have family and friends that live in Lubec. I would suggest you tone it down with the remarks! And, again, what does that have to do with this article?
SCHWINGGGGGG!
I guess there isn’t much to report on, when an accident is reported such as this, funny how it remarked that this area is a 75 mph. Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Just wait till they report a collision with a Moose doing 75!
slow down people , these things happen very fast and a life is lost , split second and your gone , not worth the 5 minutes saved on any trip.
i love that 75mph, actually 81 :) 35 minutes to the medway exit from bangor ,sweet !!!
you need to get busted. People like you are detriment to themselves and those that drive safely on the highway. Exactly why i think 75 is too fast. someday you will regret your bragging.
Waaa

Most of the staff at EMMC do not care for the patient or family of the patient. My spouse was a patient there off and on the last few years of his life. Less than 6 mos. before he died, a jerk from Northeast Neuphrology told him he was going to be dead in 6 mos. if, he didn’t allow them to do dialysis. They did not wait for him to have any family there, did not discuss it with him, just flat out stated he would be dead. Where is the compassion in that? Where were the caring nurses when he laid there without being washed up and without the bedside table within reach? If this is an example of caring, shoot me before you decide that I need to go to EMMC.
That said, I wish the 79 year old gentleman speedy recovery.
Why didn’t you make a complaint or move him to another hospital? You ARE entitled to a second opinion. Sorry about your loss.
We can be thankful for LifeFlight..
Since the speed limit has been increased to 75 has there been any MORE accidents than previously? I’m thinking not at all.
I’m thinking give it more time.
