BANGOR and WINTERPORT – Doris M. Toothaker, 80, wife of the late Phillip D. Toothaker, died Feb. 3, 2012, at a Brewer nursing center. She was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of Alvah L. and Ella M. (Burke) Webber.
Doris attended Boothbay Harbor schools. She worked in the shoe industry for many years in the Bangor area for Bangor Shoe, Ansewn Shoe and for Spotbilt. She loved the Maine coast and enjoyed listening to country music and dancing. Doris was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 3177, Brewer, and Bangor Singles Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Whitney and her husband, Jack, of Homosassa, Fla., and Vicki Getchell of Greenbush; seven grandchildren, James Colson, Donald Getchell, Phillip Holmes, Greg Doble, Billie Wright, Stacy Fales and Regina Niles; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Jake, Allie, Camden, Maya and Tyler; and one son-in-law, Richard Doble of Winterport. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband in 1989; her daughter, Patty Doble; her sweet great-granddaughter, Savanna; a brother, Alvah Webber Jr.; an infant brother, David; and two sons-in-law, Donald Getchell and William Holmes Jr. She will be remembered by a very close friend, Stuart Lawson of Old Town; a special friend that she cared for as a child, Ray Corneilison of Winterport; and her many friends at Bradford Commons.
Family and friends may visit 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A graveside service and burial will be held in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. Floral tributes are welcomed and Doris’ favorite flowers were yellow roses and white carnations.
