BELFAST, Maine — A 911 hang-up call made Saturday afternoon led police to a home on Swan Lake Avenue where a domestic violence assault had left a woman injured and the residence heavily damaged by a sledgehammer.
Kevin Flagg, 46, reportedly had ripped the phone out of the wall after a woman dialed for help, according to Belfast Police Chief Mike McFadden. The police dispatcher did not have a chance to speak to the caller.
But officers went to the home anyway and pieced together what had happened after interviewing Flagg and the woman, the chief said Monday.
“It was a good example of being patient with domestic violence calls,” McFadden said. “It wasn’t immediately obvious what happened.”
The two apparently had begun arguing over the use of alcohol and the fight escalated, the chief said.
“There’s a lot of damage done to the inside of the house. A sledgehammer was even used on the walls,” he said.
Officers reported that the woman apparently had been pushed down, pushed around and pushed into things, McFadden said.
Flagg was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault with one prior and obstructing the report of a crime. He also was issued a summons for violation of conditions of release.
He was booked at Waldo County Jail in Belfast, where he remained in police custody Monday afternoon, according to a jail official. Bail has been set at $1,000 cash.

wow the cops pieced something together all alone that means someone is going to get the shaft …….smoke dope less violence mello out…. leave the drinking to the cops and the wife beatings that nobody hears about
Wow! Busy day in Belfast!
Not day, these reports were from this past weekend and even last week. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have just combined them into one article instead of the 7 or so single articles.
Its all about the ads….by posting each story on its own page they have 6 or 7 ads sold to appear on each page.
Good point. Didn’t think of that.
Belfast’s a hopping place…..
Hey dude time to lay off the booze. I do not always get the obstructing the 911 call thing I mean who phone was it. If I want to rip my phone off the wall I guess she could walk away and call the cops. Hey I paid the bill you use your own phone .
really? you don’t get it. hmmmm. For some reason that doesn’t surprise me. Let me explain, HE IS A POS THAT WOULDN’T LET HER CALL FOR HELP.
My brother-in-law did that to me a few years ago. He ripped the phone cord out of the wall. Penobscott county did nothing about it.
wooow..dont move to freakin Belfast!! sound worse than Portland..lol
Maybe Belfast UK isn’t the most violent Belfast out there afterall!
