PORTLAND, Maine — President Barack Obama has scheduled a trip to Maine in late March, the Maine Democratic Party confirmed Monday.
Obama will participate in two fundraisers in the Portland area on March 30, one of which likely will be open to the media, Maine Democratic Party spokeswoman Lizzy Reinholt said.
“We don’t have specific details yet, but we should be getting them soon,” she said.
Reinholt said the president’s campaign staff also has been asked if he would appear in Maine’s 2nd congressional district between now and November, but there has been no confirmation of another visit.
Obama was last in Maine in July 2010 when he and his family spent several days vacationing on Mount Desert Island. The president also visited Bangor in February 2008 when he was vying for his party’s nomination. He won 58 percent of the vote in Maine that year, to Republican John McCain’s 40 percent. Obama also came to the Portland Expo in April 2010 to tout his health care legislation.
First lady Michelle Obama participated in a pair of private fundraisers in Maine last year. One was at the Ocean Gateway terminal in Portland and another at a private home in Cape Elizabeth.
The White House also has confirmed that Obama will stop in Burlington on Friday, March 30, to attend campaign events. Obama visited Vermont in 2006 as a senator from Illinois to campaign for Bernie Sanders, who was running for the U.S. Senate, and Peter Welch, who was running for the U.S. House.
Rep. Welch said the president’s visit is an honor for Vermont and a homecoming for Obama. The Democrat says Obama’s 2006 visit revealed the early affection and enthusiasm Vermonters had for him. And he says Vermont was the first state in the nation in 2008 “to go into the Obama column on election night.”
The last president to visit Vermont was Bill Clinton in 1995.

Why would ANYONE want to give that man more money!!!?????
Well, let’s see…
Maybe because some people are sick of giving their money to for-profit insurance companies that deny necessary procedures and charge high deductibles while paying their executives millions…
Maybe because some us recognize that the new BAT buses purchased with stimulus funds were a good investment…
Maybe because many, many women are afraid of an increasingly theocratic party that wants to relegate them to second-class citizen status by denying them control over their own bodies and the reproductive process…
Maybe because many recent college graduates are staggering under a debt load their parents never had to carry…
Maybe because the world is a safer place without Osama bin Laden or Muammar Khadafy (pardon the spelling) in it…
Maybe because many reasonable people believe that President Obama, though we may not agree with him down the line on every single issue, is a far better choice to lead this free, diverse, poweful, complicated, multicultural nation than any of the Republican choices…
I’m just guessing, though.
dems believe obama pelosi and reed are better at health care decisions then the doctors. Can not imagine these three running the D panels
But those don’t exist! They said so!
Very nice!! And so true. All these Democrats are finally controlled and brainwashed.
To even suggest that “all” people who don’t hold the same views as you are “brainwashed” is akin to telling everyone who reads your comment that you are incapable critical thinking.
Your intolerance is showing.
can you please demonstrate that they do exist?
Timmy — call me the “grammar police” or whatever, but online, you will never be taken seriously, no matter how much integrity your opinions may pack, if you do not spell-check your own work prior to posting. That’s just a sad fact of life, brah.
The usual reply when truth gets in the way. Sorry for my imperfect grammar i had to work for a living.I did not get 5 extra years of education i knew i could not pay for.I have to pay my own bills. But i do see you understood my point very well.
Copy the word that seems wrong and check Spell. You don’t need five years in college to do that. It’s free. But don’t be ashamed of using it.
Naw, your scare tactics don’t work anymore…now that real people with brains know that his health care bill has nothing to do with doctors and their decisions. I am a Republican and figured that all by myself, I didn’t need someone like you that wants to scare people with unfounded remarks, surpress the poor with fear tactics and scuttle the middle class so they are now in the dirt poor column…like my dear friend Gov. Romney hasn’t a clue about the middle class and poor, while to him, $13,000 dollars is pocket change….Good Day!
Are you in the same country as the rest of us?
The one where for profit Insurance Companies tell your doctor how to treat you?
“The one where for profit Insurance Companies tell your doctor NOT to treat you?”
FTFY
Hmmm…..I have one of them “for Profit” company’s and I get treated a heck of a lot better than people on Maine Care I can tell you!
Don’t argue with the liberals by using reality as a guide, they are brainwashed by MSNBC and the HuffPost and worthless as debaters.
Romney, Gingrich, Paul, Perry, Bachmann, and Caine took that “worthless debaters” title.
More than one company is ‘companies’.
I believe we learned how to pluralize a word ending with a ‘y’ in the 4th grade.
That doesn’t say much for your ability to think critically. I think I will dismiss your comments from now on as being uninformed.
Boxie: the plural of “company” is “companies”; if you were wanting to render A company somehow possessive, then you would add an apostrophe to it — i.e., “company’s.”
Actually dems believe doctors and their patients are better at making medical decisions than multi-billion dollar insurance companies, and therefore wish to give the doctor/patient more options.
your doctor isn’t making health decisions today. your health insurance company is.
Not true, my wife is an MD and you don’t know what you are talking about. You are simply repeating spin from the left. I presume you don’t work in medicine so perhaps you don’t know what you are talking about.
/What a pleasant response.
But baseless all the same.
Does your MD wife approve of emergency rooms being used as primary care?
What does she think about preventative care?
Does she think that access to basic health care is only for the rich?
The only fact you listed is that college student are staggering!
Menny — might we trouble you to re-state this in English, please?
blah blah, you are ill informed, Do you take the Bat? I doubt you would be found anywhere near a Bat Bus. Liberal elites know whats good for the rest. LIKE The Bat is wonderful for the great unwashed. I can’t even suffer reading your blob of teletubby silliness, sorry
I ride the BAT more than 300 times a year, thank you very much.
“A nickel spent on mass transit carries at least twice the impact of a nickel spent on roads. A billion dollars invested in mass transit produces seven thousand more U.S. jobs than does the same amount spent on road construction. A ten-year $100 billion increase in such transit investment would enhance worker output five times as much as if made in roads.” — Jane Holtz Kay, Asphalt Nation, published by Crown, 1997.
To paraphrase Joe Klein, an “elitist” is someone who has spent the time and energy to study something and become an expert. Annoying when those pesky experts keep challenging your prejudices, ain’t it?
I hope your kidding……. You need to read that health care proposal….in its entirety! I have never heard anything so stupid in my life as to what you are saying.
and you have?
Boxie: I think you likely mean “you are kidding” and thus, to contract that, you’d write “you’re,” rather than, incomprehensibly, “your [possessive] kidding.” You might also want to look up how to employ ellipsis dots because, as you over- and misuse them here, it’s clear you don’t know how to. Finally, one rule of thumb on exclamation points: “You get two per year” — meaning, limit yourself to how many exclamation points you use; if you aim to achieve an exclamatory tone in your writing, strive to do so in your composition, rather than relying on overusing punctuation. Good luck with that, brah.
Ellipsis dots? I think you might mean ellipses.
Gee whiz, Helena, you started out with such great comments, and now you’re just correcting people’s grammar. You must know that’s futile here. I’m sure that you are also aware that your own grammar isn’t perfect. I have to say I’m disappointed. Yessah.
Either is acceptable, but thanks for keeping your eyes open.
I think you spelled it out quite well.
Understandably, intolerant tea party and republican flag carriers are upset. With all the millions they have pocketed, none of the remaining eight know how to engage in a simple conversation with the average American.
Romney has no use for poor Americans. Gingrich would give poor Blacks toilet brushes to clean school toilets. Paul would bring back the Color Bar of the 60s. The also-rans, had even less to endear them to Americans.
The debates lifted prime time ratings on TV as millions tuned into a comedy show that rivaled those of Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert.
Its not a matter of wanting to. We have not choice through his continuation and expansion of entitlement that we continue to fund his supporters through our taxes
FYI – The word “entitlement” has been used very loosely by politicians when talking about things that are not true “entitlements” such as unemployment insurance which is paid for by the employer of every working person, social security and SSDI which is paid for by every working employee by deduction from your paycheck, pensions that you earned and paid into for your entire career, etc… Just how they can call deductions from your paycheck and/or insurance paid for by employers “entitlements” I really don’t know… except of course to drive up the cost of “entitlements” so that people will think the budget contains nothing but freebies. Members of Congress, the House and other government officials receive pensions after one term – they don’t have to be vested like all other employees (and they aren’t even considered employees). They are gifted with lifetime top-of-the-line healthcare benefits and get more paid days off than anyone in any industry… Until they include their own extra benefits “entitlements” I find it hard to take any of them seriously. I’m not saying I’m in favor of any particular candidate… just that you can’t believe everything they say. Politicians are highly manipulative individuals… all of them!
Because they have the same illusions as supporters of the Republicans. infowars.com
Maybe so we’ll have a President that won’t start 2 wars and give a TAX BREAK to the wealthiest people in the country.
maybe he will start 3. He has already at least trippled the National Deficit…can not imagine what he will do the next 3 years.
Iran, North Korea and Somalia. There will be war with US forces involved in one of these geographic entities within 12 months. We regularly engage Somali pirates at present. This would be happening no matter who was at the helm. I am not an Obama fan. Has not a thing to do with race (BTW, it cracks me up when people paint individuals as racists when they speak against his policies as he is just as much white as he is black). Such simplistic arguments are very boring and designed to put the one with an opposing view on the ropes. Find something else please! On the other hand, Moe, Curly, Larry and Shemp of the Republican party really hold no interest to me. I keep hoping someone will come out of the woodwork from a different party Ala Ross Perot. Most likely I will not be voting this election for the 1st time in my life. I am rapidly becoming tired of the banter.
It always irks me that they say how Obama has done so much! I do agree their is not much to choose from, but another 4 years of Obama will be disastous.
I cant imagine it either…WHY indeed?
Oh yea…….NOT…why don’t they just give him a million or so it is goin to cost us to have him come and make 100,000 or so…DUH
I personally think we should tell him not to bother to came at all. Maine people are having a hard enough tome with LePage, we don’t need obama here too trying to get more of our money.
To help fight the Republican/teaparty scourge that is trying to destroy our great country.
Hmmm ….so that all the entitlement mongers can get him re-elected and have more of our tax dollars to live off of? Just a wild guess …
Our national debt is currently $15.3 Trillion; the chances of getting to $20 Trillion without a monetary collapse are very slim. The budget deficit for this year alone is already projected to be $1.1 Trillion. Santorum’s overall plan will result in adding $900 Billion to that deficit in his first year. Gingrich’s overall plan will result in adding $850 Billion in his first year. Romney’s overall plan will add $180 Billion to the deficit in his first year. These candidates have the sheer nerve to call themselves conservatives. Obama will not cut spending either and we will likely suffer collapse by the end of his next term; where will that leave everyone who depends on entitlements and assistance?
http://news.yahoo.com/study-santorum-tax-plan-swells-deficit-900b-080423488.html
Additionally, if we go to war with Iran, the added debt and money printing will cause the monetary collapse much sooner. There is ZERO chance that we will be the first human civilization with fiat currency to continue printing money and not suffer a collapse. Ron Paul is the only candidate that would actually reduce overall spending and try to fix our monetary system. Nevertheless, you need to be prepared. Please make sure that you have enough supplies stocked up so that you and your family can survive the collapse; recovery could take up to several years!
Wow, I know I’m excited. Why has he waited until March for a fundraiser? He’s been campaigning for re-election since he took the oath of office. An oath he had no intention of upholding.
Ron Paul 2012
gotta love those right wing lies and delusions
The only reason I voted for Obama the last election is because he promised to bring our troops home within 30 days of taking office. Lies Lies Lies.
And McCain pledging to keep the war going, build a major military base, and establish a permanent presence there didn’t enter into your decision?
Don’t forget Obama sending troops to Africa without Congressional approval or bombing Libya without the same.

Sorry about this. Everytime I reply to another comment, it adds it as a new post.
Vote fraud in Portland (and Nevada). blackboxvoting.ORG
Obama to Maine to raise money. Give me a break.
Obama..one and done in 2012.
keep dreaming , gonna really enjoy his second term
I mean, who are you voting for , a vulture capitalist, or a serial adulterer?
And I suppose your going to vote for the lying, thieving one that won’t even own up to his past! Where is he even from?? No records of him anywhere.
no, i’m voting for Obama,not a republican
Please inform yourself.

Yes…I can hardly wait to go back to the Bush years….took a budget surplus and spent billions and billions and started two wars. Let wall street and Fanny Mae and the banks run away with recless loans and spending and put our country in to a spiraling down biggest reccession since the great depression in 2008, and we are just beginning to climb out of that worthless pit….
Not only that, lied to us on why we went to war in Iraq, lied about us torturing our prisoners when we have up held the Geneva Convention Oath since WW l.
Even Bush’s Secretary of Treasurery after he left office, he went before Congress and apologized for his stupid greed and mistakes. Stating, while he was making decisions not based on solid facts in the finanicial market, I was not only destroying peoples lives and costing tax payers billions, but that I made millions on the same mistakes….
I have been a Republican going on 58 yerars, and there is a lot of us Republican’s out there that have a brain and know who is the real threat to our civilization….even if it is hard to swallow at times.
Yet congress has control of the checkbook, they are the ones that spend the federal dollars, not the president…they sign the checks and have been for twenty years since we started deficeits. We are now just starting to pay down twenty years of debt, not the debt accumulated in the past three years and what Bush left us….were paying on twenty years of debt, both Regan and Bush, Clinton and Carter….no party is without fault. The truth in the matter is that the most debt left us in the past 2o years is from my party….that is the sad truth that my party doesn’t want you to know….
Now Maine4ever, you have the Paul Harvey version….the rest of the story….Good Day!
PS: If we don’t mend our ways in Maine, we won’t be forever….we will end up becoming part of Canada again…just think we will have free universal health care…..
You must be uneducated, every minority and woman with a conscious, will vote for Obama thanks to the planned parent hood scandal. The G.O.P. are their own worst enemies.
Ohhhh the Planned Parenthood Scandal…it’s so big that only the liberals listening to moonbat TV and radio have ever heard of it.
…Cover of the Washington Post? Cover of the NY Times? Cover of the Christian Science Monitor? Cover of the Los Angeles Time? Boston Globe? ProPublica? See that unused “Off” switch on your television, Mith?
Ohhhh….the Planned Parenthood Scandal…it’s so big you can only find out about it on MSNBC or some lame website.
…..
Giving Obama money is comparable to giving a teenager a bottle of whiskey and the keys to your car.
and voting republican is like a chicken voting for colonel sanders
That would be true…if the chicken is a welfare sucking loser.
the only people that vote republican are millionaires or stupid people
The only people who would vote for Obama have either been blind to the rank hypocrisy of a man who rails against the rich while he summers with them and deaf to the future cries of our children burdened by the debt they will be enslaved to that he has created.
Republicans cut taxes and spend more! There is no way the GOP will balance the budget. They have convinced Americans that the lowest tax rates in DECADES are high and need to be even lower (0% on capital gains so their rich buddies can accumulate even more wealth)
crumbling infrastructure, uncompetitive education for the modern economy (math, science), but short term gains for the rich! yay!
How’s that 800 billion stimulus Obama pimped in 2009 doing in fixing all the roads he promised it would fix?
Obama..every time he opens his mouth he lies.
800B is a drop in the bucket of what is actually needed for infrastructure improvements in this country. too bad we can’t afford to have first world infrastructure anymore…or first world science and math education
You want to be first world? We need to get government out of education and medicine!
to be first world we need well funded schools and research programs. We also need to stop demonizing educated people as elitists. You are right about getting politics out of education though. One notable example is the “intelligent design” foolishness that has no place outside of a “contemporary religion” course.
Id rather choose 100 people out of the phone book to run this country than 100 Harvard graduates with their so-called “smarts”.
not all politicians need a Harvard education, but do you feel the same way about your doctor? Would you rather have a random person off the street perform open heart surgery or someone from Harvard Medical School?
CG: I am a proud American. And an even prouder 9th-generation Mainer. I love my country. Given your inexplicable distaste for people who invested the time, money, and energy in educating themselves, there’s probably not much we can say to you. But permit me to offer: “Id” is a remnant of Freudian psychology, which is no longer held as true. If you meant to contract the two words “I would,” then you’ll need to insert an apostrophe between the ‘I’ and the ‘d.’ Additionally, in American English, in 99.8% of the time, punctuation goes INSIDE the quotation mark, not outside of it, as you have thus posted. Good luck with your postings, and with people taking your written postings seriously, no matter what they may be.
Have you ever looked up where the money went at http://www.recovery.gov/Pages/default.aspx ? It might be nice to educate yourself before spouting off. You sound like Fox News never looking at the facts, just sending out bull. You do know that approximately 38% of the stimulus was for tax breaks for small businesses don’t you?
So many of the right wing claim no jobs were created, therefore I guess they are proving what most intelligent people know that “TAX CUTS DO NOT CREATE JOBS”. Talk about people lying
every time they open their mouth can you guess who I am talking about now. If you can’t guess I will give you a hint it begans with Republicans.
If you think the stimulus bill fell short in rebuilding our infrastructure, I suggest you take another look at what the huge $289 billion Highway Transportation Bill in 2005 promised and failed to deliver on. That bill was passed by the Bush WH and GOP controlled House and Senate, unfunded and contained over 6,000 earmarks.
Dems have created a society of layabouts that feel they deserve other peoples money. Occupy much?
sorry, I’m a democrat and upper middle class. Never received a government hand out in my life, nor have my parents, grand parents, or great grandparents.
President Obama is a self made man representing issues that affect working and middle class American citizens. Mr. Romney in the other hand is the living embodiment of Gordon Gecko. Enough Said.
Self made? He’s the living embodiment of affirmative action.
let the GOP nominate a decent candidate and we’ll think about it. in the mean time, you why is that you think people who don’t agree with you are ‘blind or deaf’.
Please. That is the height of vanity.
Well with regard to the later reason you provided I guess we can expect a vote for the GOP nominee from you….thanks!
Obviously…… The Colonel is well known for being non-discriminatory towards chickens that don’t receive state/federal aid…. I literally almost shat myself laughing when I read your reply. Classic. It made absolutely no sense, but it was hilarious.
??
there you go again, thinking everyone who doesn’t vote the same as you is somehow deficient in character and ability.
tsk. tsk.
*hic*thanks…
I listened to this comic almost 4 years ago and I understand his jokes now he’s funny making me think he cared for the USA hahahahahahaha
….
Welcome Mr. President, former Senator, former Professor and Nobel Laureate Obama. I recognize the some of my fellow Mainers, who watch waaaaay too much Fox “News” and who, at heart, are repulsed with their allegedly hidden racism that there is a black man occupying the Oval Office (no matter what they say otherwise) and who are somehow, in their ignorance, frightened that you actually are an intelligent person who actually spends time in the Oval Office at work (unlike your predecessor, who spent the least time in office working, over 8 years, of any U.S. President ever), that you need to go: while I may or may not respect your individuality, sir, I respect your office and your accomplishments. I do not understand why so many of my fellow Mainers begrudge you your accomplishments and recognition, nor why they overlook the fact that you inherited the results of eight years of the ineptitude of The Kennebunkportian_Tool_Who_Shall_Remain_Unnamed (for some reason), but we, as Mainers, welcome you, sir. Thanks for stopping by.
I wonder why your detractors, sir, find it folly that the government of Syria says that it is not minute-by-minute launching artillery attacks on its own citizens of Homs, but they believe the qualification of “Fair and Balanced Reporting” on Fox “News” when they see it.
I apologize on behalf of my fellow Mainers: we’re a robust lot, Mr. President, and while many of us worry about how we’re going to heat our homes and don’t have time or money to watch TV, there are others of us who drink the proverbial Kook-Aid and think that, because you’re black and a Democrat, you care for our country less than all those who attempt to obstruct your vision and agenda for getting us out of this mess imposed upon us by previous Republican administrations. I apologize for some of them sir, and I salute you for your office, your accomplishments, and your fortitude. And I’m not even a Democrat.
“And I’m not even a Democrat.”
Sure.
I believe him. He’s a socialist. And he loves the attention he’s getting from being an agitator. Ignore him. Like a child, he’ll find someplace else to play..
Apparently, you don’t get out much.
Ugh..get a room. No one wants to see such a disturbing display of sycophancy in public.
Why has it become so impossible for people to respect their fellow Americans, even when they might disagree with the position he or she might embrace? Why are we, New Englanders, the scourge of the southern US because allegedly we’re the “intelligentsia elite,” suddenly so fearful of showing respect for our neighbours simply because their opinions differ from their own? I have a sense of respect for my ideological opposites, but I don’t think they care for the wellbeing of the USA any less than do I. (I just think they watch waaaaay too much TV in general, and Fox “News” in particular.) President and Nobel Laureate Obama has received more death threats than any other president in history. We here in Maine live in America’s whitest state: the hatred so many of us voice here for him — does this have anything to do with anything other than the fact either that he’s a Democrat or black? President George W. Bush — he mostly at Camp David or at the Crawford, TX ranch — why did none of you object that the man we’re paying to administer our country is spending no time on-the-job, at taxpayer expense, and yet when President/Senator/Laureate/Professor Obama spends a measly week in Hawaii at year’s end, so many of you are bitching about the taxpayer’s bill? Where is civility? Where is our respectfulness as Mainers of one another? Don’t answer that — just turn off your TV, turn off Fox “News,” go out for a walk, and talk to your fellow Mainers about what we can and cannot agree upon. This is so sad -– and my last comment on this. And now: your snarky comments.
Yawn!!!!! Get a room.
Bush spent so much time at his ranch because he was a secret Gore admirer and was working on his solar power system to offset Gore’s carbon footprint caused by Gore’s oversized 1% mansion and Gore’s oversized jet airplane !
Nothing worse than a ranter. My eyes are bleeding from the holier than thou fire shooting from these posts.
give us a break he spent more time in Hawaii then Dog the bounty hunter who lives there!!!!!LOL
Lindy — I’m sure you probably meant to capitalize the “g” in “Give” at the start of your sentence; some sort of punctuation after “break”; and mean “than” (comparative) rather than “then” (temporal). Good luck with advancing your apparently overwhelmingly informed opinion.
That is pretty sad when thats all you have to come back with!
You left out an apostrophe in “thats”: just like a contraction, when you remove the “i” from [ that + is ], you need to insert an apostrophe, as so: “that’s.”
Thats what I thought
Take a few minutes and google ‘president vacations’. He has taken less vacation time in 3 years than either of both Bushes and Reagan, but more than Clinton and Carter.
aand if you look he has made the deficit worse than every President since George Washington.
I did as you suggested and found that Obama has taken the most expensive vacations that any President up to this point in his presidency. His Hawaii trip cost us all 4 million.
Obama=FAIL.
When is this idiot going to show me some respect and get his overspending butt out of the Whitehouse. He is a disaster.During his campaign of lies he said he will be everyones president .Other than a few at MSDNC i do not see where he is anyones president. So do not give me this why cant we all get along crap. When he quits dividing this country and preaching mediocracy maybe we can talk.Stop the race baiting
You got it right.
Well said.
Your turgid prose can’t mask your sophomoric “thought” process.
Helena– you are dealing with people who wouldn’t know the truth if it hit them in the head. Actually I think they may have been hit there to many times. Don’t waste your time they only repeat what they hear on Fox and do no research of their own. I enjoyed your post, thank you.
Helena, I applaud your sincerity. You will never connect on a spiritual/intellectual/human level with 99% of the readers/posters. Please keep in mind that some of us do appreciate your point of view. Civility seems like such burden to most folks. I don’t know why. It takes very little effort. The posters that that leave comments such as, “get a room”, “yawn”, or “socialist traitor” will be miserable no matter who sits in the Oval Office. I suspect that these same posters are in their reserved pews every Sunday.
I’m often surprised that liberals don’t choke on their own self-righteousness and smugness. Never mind their usual ranting attacks on those they disagree with, all the while charging that it is THEIR opponents who are the haters.
What is a “chock”? I don’t want any of those…. Is that a religious term? Do they come in blue (my favorite color)? Clearly, no one needs to point out the “haters”, as the “haters” will distinguish themselves from the rest.
CG: “opponents” = plural; “it” = singular. Get with the program, please.
No they aren’t. They are all just like the “comic book store guy” on the Simpsons.
I bet your the lame teacher from Beavis and Butthead though.
CG: You probably mean the contraction of [ you + are ] = “you’re,” rather than the possessive “your” as you currently have it.
Because the proper noun of the television program that you reference here — “The Simpsons” — calls for a definite, rather than an indefinite article, you’ll want to capitalize the ‘T’ in “The” Simpsons. Good luck with that; sorry you paid insufficient attention in 6th grade, yo.
I would say we have an either / or situation here. Since I chose not to enclose the title in quotation marks I think it could be considered correct to write it either way, as in the “Simpsons Comics and Stories.”
I respectfully disagree, Luv. The title of the program that our celebrated Country Guy attempted to reference is, in fact, The Simpsons. The “The” is not optional and is part of the copyrighted program/brand name.
It seems you have lost the thread. “County” Guy didn’t reference it, I did.
George W. Bush was a coward, and the worst President ever in my lifetime.
“I have a sense of respect for my ideological opposites, but I don’t think they care for the wellbeing of the USA any less than do I.”
Your second phrase contradicts your first phrase. Perhaps if you substituted “and” for “but,” it would make more sense.
By the way, your comments have been monuments to snark. Physician, heal thyself.
Did you have a straight face when you wrote this fairy tale?
I write no fairy tales. It’s called “civility” and “neighbourliness,” JLegere. I, as a proud independent Mainer, regret that these concepts are alien to you.
….
“neighbourliness” huh? where are you from exactly? With that spelling it would seem as though you are not American which would explain why you throw yourself at the mercy of Obama the Clown.
…
You do know that there’s no “u” in “neighbor” don’t you, grammar and spelling cop?
….
It’s not an American English spelling.
…
Must be Organizing for America. They have paid trolls that come onto websites and pump up pro-Obama comments. They advertise on Craigslist…it’s sad really.
It’s the picture of the First Lady. It drives them all crazy.
Must be the crumpets cause it’s sure not the tea…
Why don’t you google ‘neighbour’? You will find that although it is primarily a British spelling, it is still a legitimate English version of the word. Therefore Helena_Buckett is correct.
LOL. She has a BA and an MA don’t you know.
please do not include me in your stupid country dividing rants.Drop the kool-aid, his race is not the issue unless you include stupid a race. If you do then yes call me a racist.
….
I think “stupid redneck” is close to becoming a race. Just one or two more instances of incest ought to do it.
Don’t apologize for me, Obama is not welcomed in this state…
Skipper: it is precisely because you fail to extend Maine hospitality to the President of the United States, a former United States Senator, a Nobel Laureate, and a former Yale Law School Professor, that you force me to apologize on your behalf, given that your ignorance, hostility, and partisanship undermine the Maine brand and experience. Thank me, and those who attempt to make amends for what I hope is the minority of Mainers, in covering up the negative energy that you repeatedly post to these comment boards.
Why doesn’t anyone remember him at Yale….. just asking
…
I think one would be hard-pressed to find a more embarrassing display of throne-licking than what you posted here.
You may be able to redeem yourself by claiming you’ve been a recent victim of a mini-stroke or were drunk when you wrote it.
And you’re not authorized to apologize for me.
Sorry Mr. President, we don’t have any spare money up here in Maine…..we are all old, fat and financially broke……thanks for your concerns though…
We’re just a bunch of white people clinging to our bibles and guns!
…..
It is a direct quote made by Obama while he was campaigning, before he was elected. You can Google it and find it’s context. I remember, clearly, when he said it. I was surprised the media didn’t make more of it….well, actually, I guess I wasn’t really surprised. He got a pass on everything. Others would not have been afforded the same treatment.
Joe Weisenthal of Business Insider responded that the Obama administration was facing conditions unprecedented in post-War America, such as the housing bust, the financial crisis and the subsequent credit crisis. He also calls President Reagan a “deficit lover.”
“The conditions behind the Great Recession were far worse than anything Reagan inherited, and Obama has pulled off a recovery with less of a sustained growth in Federal Government spending,” he wrote.
“David Stockman, President Ronald Reagan’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, explained in an op-ed piece, “Four Deformations of the Apocalypse,” exactly how the economic decisions of the GOP over the past 40 years, is destroying not just the economy and capitalism, but the America dream”
even some conservatives aren’t quite as slow as some of the posters
Recover maybe? Inflation yes, bought fuel, food lately ” note those two items are not figured into inflation rate’s “, vehicle prices expected to jump 6 % next year. Another Jimmy Carter at the helm.
A waste of time, money and effort. Obama reminds me of certain relatives. They only show up when they want something from me.
Mr. President, consider this an invitation-
I would like to see you come to Millinocket and meet with the struggling small businesses that historically have been ignored by politicians. The Katahdin Region has seen little as far as federal small business assistance, and the half hearted groups that have been paid with tax dollars to mentor and assist in small business economic growth, should themselves be fined and banned from Northern Maine….
He won’t take you up in the invite. Too many white people clinging to their guns and religion up there for his taste.
As a conservative that is focused on economic development in the Katahdin region, I only care about how to leverage assistance in a politically forgotten, hard hit part of country.
I have met with our new Governor a number of times, and he is very much committed to working with small businesses. I have also met with both of our Senators, and feel appreciated for what they have done, but also feel they could do a lot more. As far as our two Congressional representatives,,,, it’s very evident that they just don’t care….!
It would go a long way if a sitting President, on a fund raising trip, stopped in to a hard hit community to at least look into the problems inhibiting small business economic growth.
Lepage talks a good game but he never delivers the goods unless he is told to by the Virginia Heritage society or the Canadian government. Just look at the air craft factory he let go to the Great lakes region from where he got $225,000 in campaign money.
How about the wood pellet mill that was all set to be built in Burhnam that he ignored and forced the project to be cancelled.
Lets not forget Lepage gave Cate st 17 million plus of our money with the promise of 500 good paying paper mill jobs. Once the money changed hands Cate st announced they will not be opening the calendered paper mill and all we got is 200 very tentative and highly discounted jobs.
Clearly the efforts of our current governor are a lot better than that of the past two.
Well for one thing Baldacci’s last budget was 5.8 billion while Lepage’s budget increased spending to $6.3 billion.
Now on top of the 1/2 billion dollars Lepage told from the tax payers, Lepage wants another$225 million or he plans to kick old and sick people out of their homes in April.
Just based on the two budgets alone the Democrats are the ones who saved us money and managed to balance the budget at the same time.
Aaaah, no…!
Spending across the board is down, and the deficits and spending compared to the past administration are a lot less.
Look it up.
Democratic Gov. Baldacci’s last two year budget was 5.8 billion and it was balanced as required by state law..
http://bangor-launch.newspackstaging.com/2010/03/30/politics/budget-goes-to-baldacci/Republican Paul Lepage’s current budget is 6.3 billion and if you believe Lepage we will have to find $225 million more before Lepage’s budget will be balanced.

Why doesn’t President Obama come clean & tell the American public why he has a Socaial Secuirty number that was issued to a German immigrant that died in Hawaii? Where has he gotten all the money he has used to stop anyone from digging into his past? Why is he afraid to allow the public to view his college records? What has he to hide from the public? Is he afraid to disclose the truth?
Um, Andy? Time to a take a few-week break from watching “The Apprentice,” friend. Maybe get out a little more, interact with some people, help out at some community garden or something. Say, when’s the last time you took some kind of adult ed course to expand your mind or body? Maine offers many. Please.
If you can prove that he has a fake SS number without saying you heard it on Fox I would be very interested. Tell me you don’t really believe what you wrote. By the way have you heard from Trumps detectives about the birth certificate yet or is this where you are getting the information?
It always amazes me what some people are led to believe you need to do some research on your own, don’t believe everything you read or hear.
Name one President or candidate whose college records have been disclosed to the public.
Long before anyone had ever heard of him, Harvard saw fit to hire him as a constitutional law professor. I don’t think a shoddy college record earns one such a prestigious post.
“Name one President or candidate whose college records have been disclosed to the public.”
Al Gore, George W. Bush, John Kerry.
What did we do! Is he coming to sign up for entitlements like the rest of his party .Hope he stays in San Franportland.
Portland is a very good place for you.
Keep him home and send Michelle. Just kidding. Hope he makes the Camden Conference, seriously.
It is a great honor to have the President of the United States visit Maine so often. The haters who post here are not real Mainers but hired bloggers from out of state who hate America and they hate Maine in particular.
Your insulting verbal contortion sure sounds like hate of your thusly identified “haters” to plenty of us out here.
Do you have proof of every poster’s address and whether they are lifelong Mainers or if in truth they’ve been here one week? If so, how and where did you get that information? Please name the specific hired bloggers by their screen name whom you accuse of being from out of state.
Thank you for your help by making my point.
Still waiting for you to name the specific bloggers you’re accusing.
You for a start.
I am on NOBODY’S payroll. Who are the other bloggers you’re accusing?
So you say. Why don’t you get a job then.
Who are the other bloggers you’re accusing?
….
It’s more than suspicious. It’s obvious!
…
Why should I help you? You will just gain-say what ever I tell you anyhow
How protean! Twist the balloon and it pops out elsewhere into a new shape. So who are the other bloggers?
I accuse you too.
…..
I was born in Ellsworth, Maine in 1974. Grew up in Trenton and attended the local school and then went to MDIHS in Bar Harbor. From 1996 to 2004 I lived in Vermont and Massachusetts. Came back to Maine in 2004. I now live in the Ellsworth area. Hopefully I can be considered a real Mainer. I love Maine, although I really did like Vermont too.
I personally do not care for President Obama at all.
If your cat had kittens in the oven you wouldn’t call them biscuits.
So who are the paid out of state bloggers?
You tell me and clear your conscience.
I asked you first. Who are the paid out of state bloggers you’re accusing?
Tim Sample said that.
Question: If your cat had kittens in the oven, would you call them biscuits?
Answer: It would depend on how long they where in there. :)
Born in Maine, had to leave to make some money for about 8 years. Live in Maine again. Not a transplant. Not a professional blogger. I have an extreme dislike of President Obama. The last time he came to Maine I had trouble running my business.
Presidential visits can be disruptive but so are parades , concerts, races etc. They all create jobs and bring in much needed money to the state.
I was born in another east coast state and moved to Maine with my parents before you were born. Lived and worked in Ellsworth for awhile. Since becoming an adult I have lived in and out of Maine, and have lived here consistently since 1999. This “real Mainer” stuff is nonsense.
I will likely vote for President Obama in November.
If I was born in Maine and then moved to Vermont I wouldnt be considered a native Vermonter would I? I would be a Vermont Resident. Perhaps it is a bit foolish. But so is the post saying only professional bloggers who are not Mainers are posting negatively on this subject.
Im happy to hear that you will be voting. So will I.
….
I am on here quite a bit at times when I have nothing else going on. It seems that if anything, there are large amounts of people who always post in favor of the President and his programs, dealings. They are the same people who post vehemently against him and anything Republican. Kind of odd that so many would be posting negatively about this subject. Perhaps that is a coincidence? Does anyone think that what they post here really changes anyones opinion?
….
I go through this with my students all the time.
You are a NATIVE of the place you were born.
You are a RESIDENT of the place you live now.
You are a CITIZEN of a political entity (country, state, municipality, etc) in which you have the right to participate. Many American citizens, for example, were not born here, or currently live abroad.
You strike me as one of the more intelligent posters on this site. I wasn’t aiming the “nonsense” comment at you. The idea that someone who was born in Maine and has never left is a “real” Mainer, while other Maine citizens with more varied experience are not — that is nonsense. I live in Maine by choice.
“Always accuse your opposition of what YOU do”
–Saul Alinsky
Judge Learned Hand described as ‘that ever-gnawing inner doubt as to whether you’re right.’ If you don’t have that, if you think you’ve got an inside track to absolute truth, you become doctrinaire, humorless and intellectually constipated. The greatest crimes in history have been perpetrated by such religious and political and racial fanatics, from the persecutions of the Inquisition on down to Communist purges and Nazi genocide.[4]
….
(This is their job!)
Glad he is going to San Franportland not Maine.
….
It wasn’t funny the first time…..
He will not get any of my money…
Why is it if you have a different view of the die hards , or are opposed to having the worst president in the history of the united states reelected, you are deemed either a hater or a racist ?
He’ll win in Maine because so many people are on welfare in Maine. When politicians give away money, they’re paying for votes.
I think you meant to say they’re buying votes, but everybody got your point OK. And I agree.
If that’s the case, why won’t he win Mississippi?
Hey, speaking of Mississippi, how ’bout that Haley Barbour? Bet those folks are glad they voted for a Republican. Looking forward to when Paula pulls a Haley here.
…..
(probably all posted by the same person – paid online tr0ll aka blog warrior)

….
No one here has any money Barrack, can’t you read or hear the news? The State is broke! Oh wait, the democrats have tons of money that they can give you because they find ways to not pay their taxes like write special laws for themselves. Come on down, they have billions for you.
I didn’t realize the Democrats had control of the gov. when the tax cuts went thru, all this time I thought the Republicans with LePage at the helm were the ones. Guess I missed that. HA!
Maine people voted for this piece of crap
ya he has given everyone at the occupy camps cell phones free>>>>>>>>>>>>
the homeless, usless, and lazy .. us working people get the shaft from him!!
KEEP IN CHICAGO PUT HIM WITH DAILY!!
Wouldn’t it be nice to see the constant political fundraising come to an abrupt end? Support candidates who are for public elections. It has not always been like this and we can win our country back. There will be no real change, Obama, Romney, two sides of the same coin really.
We need to get the stinking corrosive money out of our elections. Every issue and shortcoming of congress and politicians in general points back to this one singular issue. The current path leads only to increasing the divide between the people and their government.
Oh Wow. How fortunate of the people of Maine are. We are going to have a visit from our community organizer in chief, and his angry looking sidekick. I feel so blessed. Go campaign someplace else Barry. The last thing we need here in Maine is another liberal. The ones that are here now have caused enough damage. Stay away.
I have a question for Eric Russell, Eric why is this a story we can comment on, however most of your dribble is on your blog that you need to have a facebook account to comment on?
That must be very frustrating for you.
Actually I find Eric a real weeny (like most liberals). He wants to control criticism on what he writes about.
We can only hope audience members confront Oabamroid about the explosive evidence I
just received by email from Salt Lake City attorney Jesse Trentadue who won a $1 million lawsuit against the FBI for torturing his brother to death a few days after the Oklahoma City bombing.
google trentadue fbi
Also see the link he sent me

Hey, I thought we were the poorest state in the union, how can we give him any more money?
Actually we are no where near being the “poorest State”
He will get my dollar!
….
…..
Wow, that was rude. Moderator?
Moderators only work for the liberals. So they should be right on it for her in a minute.
Which one are you, now?
There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.
The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.
gotta love some of the posters–hard to believe there are so many pathetic rednecks
All the partisans are going to scream about this, BUT I see no difference between Obama, and George W Bush other than their skin color. Both want open immigration, neither did thing one to stop outsourcing, both supported NAFTA, both believe the best use of U.S. treasure and blood is fighting middle eastern wars. Both Obama and Bush thought it was a good idea to bail out BAnks and let home-owners sink or swim on their own.
Further more, excepting Ron Paul (who has absolutely no chance of winning) the current crop of R candidates are no better.
Additionally having lived under Ken Curtis, Jim Longley, Joe Brennan, John McKernan, Angus King, John Baldacci, and our current governor, I see nodifference here either, EXCEPT the current governor seems to get more negative press…. BUT for me the State doesn’t feel any different.
We probably come from different perspectives but I agree with most of your post. After a lot of thought and research, I think that the best solution, to start to solve a lot of our country issues, is the implementation of the FairTax.org . if you haven’t given it more than a cursory thought, please evaluate The FairTax again.
I sincerely hope Mainers give President Obama a warm Maine welcome! He is the only hope for a better America! If a GOP winds up in the Oval Office..you will have a LePage on Steroids!
Only coming for money. Can’t care less about Maine.
Of course.
But we tend to alternate between supporting narcissistic or regressive presidents.
