STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — A Super Bowl party Sunday night ended with one man in police custody after he grew upset the game wasn’t going his way and became violent with his girlfriend.

Christopher Chase, 49, of Blanket Lane in Stockton Springs had been watching the game at home with a few people when things went south, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

“They were drinking and watching the Super Bowl,” Trafton said. “The game wasn’t going their way and he became rowdy.”

Chase began to argue with his girlfriend, and the argument escalated to physical abuse, according to the police report. He allegedly grabbed her arm, scratching it and drawing blood. He also is accused of pushing her and throwing an ashtray at her, although he missed his target, Trafton said.

Chase’s glasses were broken in the struggle.

The woman’s friend called police for help, and when officers arrived, they found that he was “extremely intoxicated,” Trafton said. The girlfriend did not require medical assistance.

Chase was arrested, charged with domestic violence assault and taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast, where he remained Tuesday afternoon, according to a jail official. Bail was set at $100 cash.

  1. Gee…. I felt bad because the Patriots lost but, wow nothing like that. I’d hate to see how upset he’d get if they hadn’t made ant score. Geeesh!

  2. Gronkowski couldn’t wait for the game to be over so he could go to a party and dance the night away. It’s a game, get over it.

  3. cool just a hundred.. so he can go get drunk with more money and do it again to someone else..policing at its best and really who cares it was just a game

  4. I guess any reason is an excuse if you are a wife beater, who in my opinion are just a smidgen higher on the rung of  the ladder of doo-doo encrusted pieces of humanity than child molesters, and child molester preachers (or anyone else entrusted with the care of our youth or elders and do harm).
I liked the game no matter who plays/wins/looses because now the baby sport season is over and pitchers and catchers report soon! Red Sox fever, catch it!

  5. What really happened was he made a bet that if the giants won he would have to do the laundry and dishes for a week , no wonder he was pissed !
