MACHIAS, Maine – A proposed national park in northern Maine will take center stage tonight at the University of Maine at Machias for the second time in a month.

Millinocket Town Manager Eugene Conlogue, an opponent of the national park proposal, will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the Portside room of Kimball Hall. Conlogue is providing a counterpoint to State Sen. Cynthia Dill, D-Cape Elizabeth, who spoke in favor of the Maine Woods National Park during a presentation at UMM on January 25.

  1. Good for you, Eugene Conologue–it will not be easy to defeat the Quimby plan, since she is such a liberal with the White House standing behind her.

      1. Looks like you dont know what you are talking about get with it or go live in southern maine or the surburb of Boston!!

  2. I’m looking forward to this talk – this one should have some actual facts presented instead of the umms, ahhhs, and unsubstantiated  half truths of the proponents talk a couple of weeks ago.

  3. Way to go Gene….
The latest snewz from the Quimby front is that the old girl herself has been advised she has less than a pleasant public opinion,,,,, so she put her son in charge of her park campaign.

Too late, everyone will always associate the Quimby National Park with a bitter old millionaire that cant stand the area residents.

    1. Your town manager should stay home and try to figure out how to keep Millinocket from spiraling into obscurity instead of driving across the state to rant about his limited vision of the future.

      1. Droningon, I guess you’re not from around here.

The people in the town of Millinocket is quite happy with Gene Conlogue. He has done very well with our town despite the economy and the thieves who ran the town council for years.

        1. Absolutely not he has done absolutely nothing in fact you will find that he has been very negligent  in collecting and managing taxes

      2. If the park were such a great idea, the town manager would be singing its praises.  If I lived in Millinocket, I’d be happy the manager was giving my town’s side when a SoME rep is pushing a park she won’t actually live near.

  4. Now why isn’t there a photo of Mr. Conlogue here? We’ve seen Quimby and Dill far too often, and now no pic of the counter to the parksters? So much for “equal” time.

  5. Its too bad Fox  network threw a net over Glen Beck and dragged him off the air.  Mr. Conlogue would have been a perfect fit for Glen’s glory days.

    1. Here’s a chance to learn the facts from an expert on the subject. Truth and facts are going to be presented. Log on and learn some.

    2. Another person who knows not of what he speaks. Glenn Beck and Gene Conlogue couldn’t be further apart politically and ideology.

  6. Looks like the Quimby police are out in force.

I find it hypocritical that the BDN allows for the massive name calling about our governor, but when we return the fat jokes back at the bitter old millionaire that questions our intelligence because of our objections, we get censored…..

  7. That was an articulate and informative speech that Gene Conlogue gave last night. Most understand that the Quimby machine will never go away, and that it is up to each one of us to be vigilant to maintain our woods just the way they are. I think we all realize that we need to thank people like Gene and others that have gone the extra mile and have taken the time and energy towards this fight to keep the Northern Woods as is.

    Thank You Gene

  8. I f Millinocket were a business, Mr. Conologue would be in line for a job making charcoal. Millinocket is a ghost town with a limited future based on the “Millbilly” attitude. He has to look in the mirror and wonder how did the town get to where it is. If you want to be a “manager”, you must take some responsibility. Having said that, I have never met the man, and only judge him on his body of work…I will never be convinced a National Park in the region is a bad thing. Please go to Millinocket and tell me all is good and I am wrong…
