OLD TOWN, Maine — After receiving a report Tuesday afternoon of someone smoking marijuana at the Irving gas station, police quickly caught up with the car in question on Main Street, Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey said Thursday.
While police were interviewing the driver, Anthony Brasslett, 24, of Brewer, his passenger, Kevin Lane, 40, of Old Town, tried to get rid of a marijuana cigarette, the sergeant said.
“He admitted to throwing it out the window while the driver was talking to police,” Hashey said. “The officer found it on the ground a short distance from the vehicle.”
Police also found marijuana in a container, a glass pot pipe and diverted prescription drugs — Klonopin and Xanax — in the car, the sergeant said.
“The driver admitted he had been smoking in the vehicle, that there was a marijuana cigarette in the vehicle and that he had marijuana in the vehicle,” Hashey said.
Lane was charged with falsifying physical evidence. Brasslett was charged with possession of marijuana, sale and use of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

Wow, how harmless is a joint? I mean, I know its illegal and we all have to abide by the same laws. But why cost tax payers money to jail somebody over ONE joint? WTF? Its not like he was doing bath salts or booting heroin. If I was the cop, I’d make the suspect throw it on the ground and destroy it.
