ELLSWORTH, Maine — An informational session on the dangers of the synthetic drug commonly known as bath salts will be held Friday at the Hancock County Higher Education Center.
The forum, which is scheduled to run from 4 to 6:45 p.m., is being held as part of a University of Maine at Augusta class on chemical dependency but is open to the public. The session will feature an interactive television presentation with Special Agent Jonathan L. Richards of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency as well as a slide show, specimen review and a question-and-answer period.
Bath salts are a type of synthetic stimulant that can cause anxiety, agitation, delusions and extreme paranoia. Maine law enforcement agencies and medical staff are struggling to deal with violent bath salts users who pose a danger to themselves and others.
For information on Friday’s program, call the Hancock County Higher Education Center at 667-3897. The center is located in the Mill Mall on State Street in Ellsworth.
