CONWAY, S.C. – Evelyn “Evie” G. Wing, 91, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C. Evie was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Peekskill, N.Y., and moved to Maine in 1946. She was a daughter of the late Bruno and Frances Vozzello Grenci.
She graduated from Peekskill High School and attended the University of Maine and Washington School for Secretaries, New York City, where she worked for the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers for four years. After moving to Maine she worked in the University of Maine Alumni office for four years. Evie married Lawrence A. Wing, who was working on his master’s degree in geology, in 1950. She also held a real estate license in both Maine and Massachusetts. Evie belonged to Penobscot Valley Country Club for many years and was an avid golfer, bridge player and reader.
Evie was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; sisters, Clementine Politi and Carolyn Lindblad; brothers, Cyrus Grenci, Louis Grenci, Michael Grenci and Bruno Grenci; and nephew, Edward Grenci. Surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Wing Dawley and her husband, Brian, of Conway, S.C.; a son, Bradford S. Wing and his wife, Kathie, of Brewer; four grandchildren, Stephanie Smith, Allison Wing, Rachel Wing and Michelle Kearney; four nephews, Ronald and Jeffrey Lindblad, Brent Grenci and Greg Politi; and a special niece, Mary Lou Zyder.
A celebration of life visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date at Hillside Cemetery, Peekskill, N.Y.
