LITTLE DEER ISLE – Winfield Billings, 88, died Feb. 11, 2012, at his home. He was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Little Deer Isle, to George and Myrtle (Billings) Billings.

He grew up and attended school in Stonington. Win enlisted in the Marines upon graduation from Stonington High School and served in the South Pacific. When he returned to Stonington after World War II, he went seining, which he loved, and also worked at Deer Isle Stonington Yacht Basin, Stonington. In the 1960s he became a master electrician and worked in many paper mills in Maine and New Hampshire. He was active in his church and pastor for many years.

Win is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie (Carter) Billings; and by sons, Lawrence and his wife, Jane, of Stonington, Mark and his wife, Jeannie, of Ellsworth, David and his fianc‚e, Sharon Bates, of Brewer and Burnham, and Scott of Ellsworth. He is survived by daughters, Rebecca Thompson and Susan Thompson-Weed and her husband, Raymond, of Stonington and Wendy Young and her husband, Mike, of Ellsworth. Win is survived by 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, several nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to meeting five new great-grandchildren in the summer. Win will also be missed by special friends, Bob and Dick Powers of Deer Isle and Kathy Billings of Bangor. Win was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Reynold, Melvin and Elmer; and sisters, Georgia and Helen. He was also predeceased by son-in-law, Allen Thompson.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Bragdon Funeral Home, Stonington. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Sunset Restoration Church. Interment will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of Sunset Restoration Church. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley, Stonington.
