JEFFERSON, Maine — A Jefferson man has filed his intent to seek the Democratic nomination for the Maine House District 50 seat that includes Waldoboro.
Joel Pitcher filed his intent last week with the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices. No other Democrats have filed for the seat.
Henry Simmons of Nobleboro has filed his intent with the commission for the seat as the Republican nominee.
The House District 50 seat represents Waldoboro, Nobleboro, Bremen and part of Jefferson. The seat is held by Rep. Dana Dow, R-Waldoboro, who is running for the state Senate in a special election Tuesday, Feb. 14.
Pitcher grew up in Wiscasset, graduated from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle and then served eight years in the Army. He has worked at Bath Iron Works for the past 14 years.
He said he is running because he believes the working people need to be represented in Augusta by more working people.
The deadline for party candidates to file nomination papers with the Maine secretary of state to get on the November ballot is March 15. Candidates not enrolled in a party have until June 1 to file papers.
