BANGOR, Maine — Police working the early shift at the Bangor Police Department got quite the surprise.
Officers reported hearing a loud explosion from the boiler room at about 6:40 a.m. Tuesday and seeing a plume of smoke coming from a roof vent.
The building was evacuated and the fire department was called.
The fire department accessed the boiler room and within a minute deemed the building safe to re-enter.
There was no damage to the boiler room. It appears there was some sort of malfunction with the boiler when it turned on. It will be inspected.
Did it wake them up?
Well, it could have been a “transient” wanting to blow up the building!
I am guessing your comment as well as many other thoughts went through their mind when they heard the “explosion”. Anyone that thinks being a police officer in todays world is easy should think again. I wouldn’t do it for any amount of money. We live in a city with a great police department and we should let them know that every once in a while.
The headline really made me concerned but as soon as I read it it became clear it was just a desperate media ploy to get a story read. Well, it worked, I read it with concern. I have learned my lesson, the next time I read a headline that sounds horrible I wont do it with so much anxiety. It will probably be nothing.
I hope they call someone to look at the boiler system, times are tough these days.

Was the boiler arressted for disorderly conduct? or at least a verbal warning?.
One would think that they are used to big bang noises. While I was in school, we used to hear the boiling room all the time, it was something we all just got used to. Only once did we have to get out of the building, and that was because of a pipe had busted- a water pipe at a that.
Im thinking that either we got shafted when us taxpayers bought into the idea that we needed a new police station and hired the Mario brothers to install a faulty boiler two years ago ! Or those darn guys in blue got there own METH LAB !
Ask a veteran of Iraq what an explosion at or near a police station means to them. How would some of you like to live in a country where terrorists pose as cops and they blow up the police headquarters?
