BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In a case that has shocked even investigators, a California man is in jail for allegedly cooking and eating cats.
Jason Louis Wilmert is being held in the Kern County Jail on charges alleging animal cruelty and using a pet or domesticated animal for food. Both charges are misdemeanors.
Neighbors called sheriff’s deputies when they heard cats wailing and screeching at the 36-year-old’s house in the Bakersfield suburb of Oildale.
Sheriff’s spokesman Ray Pruitt says he has “never seen anything like this.”
Pruitt says investigators found evidence that led them to believe “he had the intent to use a cat for food,” but he couldn’t comment directly on the evidence. The case has been sent to the district attorney.
Wilmert is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.
The “evidence” being that they found several North Korean cookbooks in his kitchen.

My son has been to Thialand many times and they do have dogs hanging in the open markets skinned and ready to cook. I have seen pictures. YUK

It is really sick, and for anyone who doesnt believe or know go to any korean site about how they kill dogs and cats for food, just make sure you have no conciense or have a strong stomach.
Don’t know about Korea but, while on Guam, we had to give our dog to a friend because she was getting snappy. The neighbor kids use to mistreat her and I had a babycrawling around. This ” friend” happily took my dog home and promised to love her and care for her. He did until she had a litter of puppies and they were weened. I heard that my dog then became the main course for his fiesta. She was a mutt, no special breed. Needless to say he was no longer my friend.

see i know what bothers me, the way any of the animals are killed, if you want to do it humanly than the more power to you, but the way cows, chickens dogs cats are killed that is what i have a problem with.

Virginia is trying to pass a law that says any woman who wants an abortion must have a vaginal probe with some medical device even if it not’s medically necessary and then must go through a waiting period. Still, it might be a solution to the feral feline issue. Also, it might not be any odder than eating a lobster or a raw oyster, considering what they’re willing to eat. Good marketing could take care of any hang-ups we might have. Think of the featured dish at the Cat House (new meaning to that one!): stewed cat and shredded cabbage – Paw n’ Slaw.
Slaughtering a cat and consuming the meat in this country is not common. In some countries it is. Eating Grasshoppers is not common here either, but it happens to be in Mexico and other parts of Central America.
When in Culinary School I had a Chinese Woman as an Instructor. She told us that Chinese thought Grown Adults drinking milk like we do here was extremely odd.

I love animals. I have numerous pets and they are as dear to me as my family…well more so than some family. While I do not condone eating cats or dogs it is not my call. I don’t even like to eat traditional food animals, not so much because I think it is terribly wrong, but because of the cruelty to factory farmed and slaughtered animals. As many animals are considered pets and food animals it would be very hard to find a distinction between the two to everyone’s satisfaction.
For me, that is the problem with this particular case of killing the cats. (you know, besides the gross factor); since the neighbors heard the cats screaming there was obviously cruelty involved.

At least this guy wasn’t devouring human subjects. The exclusive problem that I have with this individual dining on “kitties” is if they were the loved pets of his neighbors. I genuinely don’t have a problem with this guy consuming stray animals, it’s a great way to curtail the population of feral cats ( that is if you can tolerate that sort of taste).
