PALATKA, Fla. – Dorothy Campbell Smith, 102, died peacefully Feb. 15, 2012, at home.

She had a “spit-fire” personality who told it like it was, but with a kind and gentle heart. She was a graduate of Castine Normal Teaching School College, and taught elementary school in Sedgwick until retirement. A native of Boothbay, she enjoyed spending her summers in Brooksville and Harborside, and her winters in Palatka, Fla. She was a lifetime member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star and Cape Rosier Grange. She loved dogs, boating and reading.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gregoty and Sophronia Campbell; husband, Capt. Perry Edwin Smith; sons, Perry Edwin Smith Jr. and Edwin James Smith; her dogs, Schultzie, JJ, Samantha and Muffin; and many others. She is survived by her daughter, Monalee Smith Pritchard and husband, Charles, of Bettendorf, Iowa; dog, Steffie; nine grandchildren and spouses, Charles Jr. “Chip” and Monika Pritchard, Melanie and Robert Wolfe, Melinda “Mindy” Lank, Leslie and Lynette Pritchard, Jason and Michelle Smith, Elisabeth and Robert Smith, Gregory and Melissa Smith, David Smith, and Patricia Smith; 19 great-grandchildren; and close friends, Anita Evans, Carol Flowers, Paula Miller, Mark Stanton, Thea Smith and Shirley Snow Esterbrook.
