ALFRED, Maine — A Biddeford man is facing charges in the wake of an assault of a corrections officer at the York County Jail earlier this week, police say.
York County Major William King said Friday that charges will be filed against Jesse James Seward, 28, of Biddeford.
Seward, who was in jail on weapons charges, is accused of assaulting Sgt. Jill Brooks after refusing to return to his cell on Tuesday.
Seward struggled with authorities when they tried to get him back into the cell, according to police, and during the ensuing struggle, the inmate and Brooks fell to the ground. Brooks hit her head and lost consciousness momentarily, according to police.
The inmate eventually cooperated and returned to his cell, and was uninjured in the scuffle. Brooks was taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford, where she was treated and released.
King said Seward is facing the assault charge because he assaulted Brooks and caused her bodily injury while she was on duty.
Seward is due in Alfred Superior Court on March 22.

His head should have bounced off the floor several times.
I have no idea what the penalty is for assaulting a prison employee . Whatever it is, it should be so punitive that inmates wouldn’t even think about it. Thank God the inmate was not injured, that’s a relief.
My money is on no extra jail time. It will ether run concurrent with his present sentence or it will be dismissed all together. The taxpayers of Maine can’t afford to keep people in jail any longer than necessary.
People, please don’t think that I am a chauvinist, but I have always believed that
women inmates should be supervised by woman and men inmates should be
supervised by men. A man’s strength, in most cases, is superior to a woman, so
in my humble opinion, she is put in a dangerous situation. On the flip side, Men
should not be around female inmates in these circumstances. I think you all
know where I am going with this.
Nothing chauvinist about it: just good common sense.
I know where you are going with it and you don’t have a clue. You need to get over yourself. A woman can do just as good of a job as any man can do if not better. I work with some women that I would rather have watching my back than any man.
I never said a woman cannot do as good of a job as a man can. Where did you read that? I simply know that men are overall stronger than woman (God’s design) and because of that a male inmate who is out of his mind can seriously hurt a woman. We read about men seriously assaulting woman all the time, yet it’s not as often we read about women assaulting men.
I would not want my wife in this situation, and my wife agrees with me. I just hate seeing women jail/prison guards having to supervise men, that’s all. It’s just my opinion.
Maybe you should get over yourself.
I’m a Correction Officer and I agree with you 100%!
If I was Sgt. Jill, I’d start developing blinding headaches and PTSD and never, ever work another day in my life.
Give her a week and the dizzy spells will start !
thats a nice comment, if it was a man, I could believe it.
I think she’s a lot better than that. Now if it was reversed Holy Crap would the bellering start!
What do you expect , his name is Jesse James ……………………………………………………Stewart
Apparently, his parents planned for him to be a loser from birth.
POS should have caught one in the nads.
Agreed but, the officer would than have probably been charged with cruel and unusual punishment to a prisoner.
I don’t know how anybody can be charged when it’s a free for all. Some of them guards think they have more power than God and that is why they are in that kind of job. Pelinsky, a guard at the HCJ is one of them. Som e start off with good intentions I’m sure, but you can watch their heads slowly swell. Not all imates are convicts, some just made a mistake. That is the peril of being human…..let the fire works begin..
I would not want my wife in this situation, and my wife agrees with me.
The women CO’S keep prisoners calm by having sex with them
Her choice to work there
