BANGOR, Maine — A registered sex offender facing sex abuse charges in state court pleaded not guilty in federal court to three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the production of pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

Carey E. Gonyer, 43, of Charleston was indicted in December by the Penobscot County grand jury on 10 counts of sexual abuse of a minor in related incidents. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

The state and federal charges involve one male victim who was 15 years old when the crimes allegedly took place, according to a previously published report.

The boy attended Gonyer’s arraignment Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

After pleading not guilty to the charges, Gonyer agreed to be held without bail until his case in federal court is resolved.

The federal indictment states the incidents that led to the sexual exploitation counts occurred in June, July and September 2011. The possession count stems from a search of items, including a cellphone, at Gonyer’s home in October, when he was arrested on the state charges.

He has been held since then at Penobscot County Jail unable to post $20,000 cash bail.

Gonyer was sentenced in U.S. District Court in December 2006 to 2½ years in federal prison for possession of child pornography. He was released in July 2008.

If convicted, Gonyer faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years in federal prison on the sexual exploitation charges and up to 10 years in prison on the possession of pornography charge. He also faces fines of up to $250,000 on each count.

The maximum penalty he could face in state court on the sexual abuse charge is 10 years in prison.

    1. He wasnt smart enough to build of a facade similar to what Carlson built. In some ways that makes him less of an anti-social person than Carlson.

  1. Thankfully this case is in the Federal System. If found guilty this man will be buried. With a prior conviction and state charges he is above the minimum 15 years and likely looking at 22 or so. The Federal System sentences people to months. So for accuracy the minimum sentence this person could recieve in federal prison is 180 months.

  2. I hear that Bubba has an addiction for guys who sexually abuse kids. If they find this one guilty, Bubba will OD.
