EASTPORT, Maine — Congressman Mike Michaud is in Eastport, where he’ll be touring a new lobster storage facility.

Michaud said the Lighthouse Lobster and Bait was built on the former Consea factory site that previously operated as sardine cannery. The new plant will be able to hold up to 135,000 pounds of lobster.

Michaud said the plant has used funding that was made available through U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Assessment Grant program, which provided funding for the town to assess the site and the environmental impact of the previous tenant and make sure it was suitable for future development.

  1. i have been by this place many times both when the old run down building was there and now with the new one and it looks good hope there is a lot of good things to come wish you all the best david

  2. This is such a visual improvement over the old dilapidated factory shell that was falling down.  I drive by it almost every day, it’s great for the city, the neighborhood, and the lobster industry.

    Congratulations David!

    1. Where in Eastport is the building? It’s not the old one on the waterfront downtown is it? (across from Happy Crab)

  3. More economic development made possible through money provided by the federal government.

Republicans are against this type of funding, unless they directly benefit from it.

    Then it’s OK

      1. Oh, you mean republicans have been SUPPORTIVE of government stimulus for the private sector?

        What planet are you from?

Is “BS” the best you can do?

    1. Stingah, the federal government is 15 TRILLION in debt and running an annual deficit over a TRILLION in case you haven’t heard.  Therefore, the government isn’t really ‘providing’ any money, they are borrowing it from China and other nations who buy our debt, and then leveling the future burden upon the heads of our children and grandchildren.  This action is immoral and it is wrong, as you are establishing a contract to pay for future generations who have not had a chance to review said contract and have not agreed to the established term.  It is akin to someone purchasing a $50,000 vehicle for you that you don’t need, not letting you benefit from your purchase directly, and then telling you that you’ll have to begin paying off the debt in 5 years time.

And your comment on Republicans is a bit of a joke, at least for the 30% or so of us out here who support true conservative individuals, such as Ron Paul.  Whether it is the democrats or the republicans, running up debt and enslaving future generations to that burden simply so the current generation can selfishly live fat and happy, is not only immoral and wrong, it is flat out disgusting and offensive.

  4. Can’t believe the gov’t paid for this study or we are paying the shuffle this wag to Eastport. What a horrific waste.
