CARIBOU, Maine — The National Weather Service in Caribou has issued a winter storm warning for central and northern parts of Maine as a snowstorm bears down on the state.

Mark Bloomer, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, is expecting that Aroostook County will feel the brunt of the storm, with up to 10 inches of snow expected.

“That’s what it’s looking like,” he said late Friday morning. “It’s looking like Piscataquis County, central and northern Penobscot County, all of Aroostook County and Somerset County [will be affected].”

Up to 10 inches are expected north of Greenville, with 6-7 inches forecast in southern Piscataquis County and 3-5 inches in Greater Bangor.

Coastal and southern areas aren’t expected to get hit as hard, as the snow is expected to change over to rain fairly quickly, Bloomer said.

Those areas have been issued a winter weather advisory.

With gusty winds expected Saturday, Bloomer said a wind advisory has been issued for coastal areas, and he expects blowing and drifting snow in central and northern Maine.

  3. In the summer the saying is, if you wash the car it surely will rain.  So, I thought with winter approaching, if, I take the snow shovel out, it surely will snow. So, I hid the shovel, and it snowed anyway, and, there is 10 inches comming to the Valley. What a Bummer.

  4. And people laughed at me when I put snow tires on all 4 of my Jeep. Last time this happened my phone rang off the wall with people asking me to pull them out. ‘The Wheel’ indeed does come around !
