WATERVILLE, Maine — A local woman was arrested Wednesday after she clogged a Rite Aid toilet with stolen goods, police say.
Vanessa Cayford, 36, of Waterville walked into the Main Street Rite Aid and grabbed several boxes of creams, according to Waterville Police Chief Joe Massey.
“She took things like Neosporin, scar gel, mascara, eyeliner, blush,” Massey said Friday. “She was taking these items into the bathroom. She unpacked them and tried to flush them packaging down. It plugged the toilet up.”
Cayford hid the cream bottles in her pockets before the Rite Aid staff called police, Massey said.
Cayford was charged with theft and resisting arrest, and for clogging the toilet, she was charged with criminal mischief, Massey said.
She is being held at Kennebec County Jail. As of Friday, her bail had not been set, but she is expected in court Monday.

I wonder what the fine would be for plugging a potty? In fact I didn’t know it was a crime.
It’s a shame to think that the state is going to plunge ahead and flush her life down the sewer over this incident. But maybe a little jail time will jiggle her handle and she’ll smarten up.
….throw the plunger at her Judge.
What was she plugging it WITH?
Read the article again.
If she had taken what she really needed, a canvas bag, that toilet would have been totally stopped.
She could have used some old newspapers and clogged her own toilet.
All these articles about people stealing from stores and the one thing I notice is this-
None of these people are stealing things they truly need! Not that stealing is ever right or justified. It just makes more sense to steal somethings then others.
Fine her for the theft and then make her pay for the plumber to fix the toilet, which will cost a lot more than the fine.
Who among us hasn’t done this at least once?
I can hear it now……. “your Honor, this woman has mental health issues!”, and “you must let her go!” (Gavel down, bang bang) “Case Dismissed!”
If she was locked up, you’d complain about having to pay for her keep.
your damn right, if she has mental health issues, put her in a hospital, not jail.
“put a little love in your heart” these are sick people. To come on here and make fun of them……..you have lowered yourself!!
No I haven’t. I don’t suffer from mental illness, I enjoy every min. of it.
maybe she is one of the ones DHS will cut maybe she is playing crazy not lose it
Well, ain’t that just the ***ts.
Perhaps Ms. Cayford may have forgotten the CORIOLIS EFFECT: a toilet rotates counter clockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. Had she remembered this from her advanced placement physics class in high school- this plumbing nightmare may not have occurred.
Roto-Rooter, that’s the name, and away your bounty, down the drain!
I wasn’t aware that “clogging a toilet” was a criminal offense, though maybe it ought to be!
Can you link to the Bath Salts Facebook page? I searched for it but couldn’t find it.
how is everyone feeling? you always feel better when you kick someone who is down, right? what sad is people have to steal 9.00 dollar cream. for most people the cost of the cream is a hour worth of pay.
so lets jump on berating this women and avoid the real issue.
I feel fine and will if I want too, thank you very much.
How was it that said that the U.S. economy was going down the toilet?
Do you think she woke up Wednesday morning saying ” Today would be a great day to steal a bunch of pointless stuff then flush it down the toilet, an then i’m gonna hide all the evidence in my pockets an nobody will know it was me” Someones not to bright… I would have made her unclog the toilet with her hand, then send her to jail
I believe a complete checkup by a doctor would be the first thing to do. I feel sorry for this person…
If only she had been stealing toilet paper, this wouldn’t be a story.
