LIMESTONE – Leona M. O’Bar, 97, wife of the late George O’Bar Sr., passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 26, 2012, at a Caribou nursing facility, after an extended illness. She was born May 18, 1914, in Caswell, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Labreck) Michaud.

She attended school in Caswell and was married to George O’Bar in 1929. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, Mrs. O’Bar played an instrumental part on the family farm, assisting her husband until 1956. In 1957 Leona became employed at Loring Air Force Base, Base Exchange as head cook, working there until her retirement in 1968. After her husband’s death, June 15, 1969, Leona resided with her son and daughter-in-law, George Jr. and Jeanine O’Bar until 2005 when she became a resident of Limestone Manor, moving to Caribou Nursing Home in 2007, where she resided until her death. Mrs. O’Bar was a lifelong communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was predeceased by two sons, Stephen and Bernard O’Bar; one brother, Leo Michaud; four sisters, Mary Boulier, Elizabeth O’Bar, Alphonsie Johndro and Susan Lebreck; and one son-in-law, William Tucker. She is survived by two sons, George O’Bar Jr. and his wife, Jeanine, of Limestone and Thomas O’Bar and his wife, Buhrl, of Manassas, Va.; four daughters, Annie Merchant of Bradenton, Fla., Theresa Tucker of Richmond, Va., Sue Anne “Connie” Roach of Lanoka Harbor, N.J., and Joanne Halo and her husband, Arthur, of Nokesville, Va.; one sister, Hope O’Bar of Caribou; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, 100 Main St., Limestone, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the Mass in the church reception area. Interment will take place later in the spring at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. O’Bar to the charity or organization of one’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
