JACKSON, Maine — The Bangor man police named as a person of interest in the disappearance of a Florida firefighter was arrested and charged with murder late Tuesday afternoon at the Hadley Mills Road house where the Florida man was last seen.
“It’s a drug-related homicide,” said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Daniel Porter, 24, who had arrived earlier in the day in a Maine State Police detective’s car, was arrested just before 5 p.m. at the home rented by his father, McCausland said in a statement.
Police walked Porter out of the house in handcuffs and took him away.
State police believe that the missing firefighter, Jerry Perdomo, 31, of Orange City, Fla., was killed in Jackson but are not releasing any details about the death, including how they think Porter killed him, McCausland said.
“I’m not getting into specifics,” the state police spokesman said. “Specifics in this case will most likely be detailed in court documents that will be available tomorrow, Wednesday or Thursday.”
Perdomo’s body has not been found, McCausland said.
Bangor firefighter John Higgins, who was in Jackson earlier in the day and who volunteered to help search for Perdomo’s body, said Tuesday night that police “asked us to leave so they can start the search. They have a pretty good idea where he is at.”
Porter will be booked into the Waldo County Jail in Belfast on Tuesday night, McCausland said.
Perdomo’s brother-in-law Chris Lerch was at the Jackson house earlier Tuesday afternoon when state police pulled into the driveway with Porter in the front seat.
Lerch, of Florida, said by phone that it was painful seeing Porter get out of the unmarked police cruiser.
“It’s difficult,” he said. “It’s just very difficult.”
Police have said they believe that Porter is one of the last people to have had contact with Perdomo — a firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Seminole County Fire Department — who has been missing since Feb. 16. His rental car was found abandoned at the Bangor Walmart the next day.
Porter was in the police car and his father and another man were in a separate car that arrived at the same time Tuesday afternoon, said firefighter Higgins, who is escorting Lerch around Maine.
“We just keep ending up back there,” Higgins said, referring to Jackson. “When we got there nobody was there” except for a couple of television news crews.
“They brought him in there and they’re still there,” the Bangor firefighter said just before 2 p.m., referring to Porter. “We were asked to leave by the officer, so we left. He said they were in the middle of an investigation and asked us to leave, so we did.”
A reporter for a Florida television station, WFTV-TV, Channel 9, approached the state police detective’s car as Porter got out of the vehicle and asked him if he had killed Perdomo.
He never got the chance to answer because the detective ordered the TV crews to leave or be arrested.
Seminole County firefighter Troy Todak, who is in Maine to look for his friend and co-worker, remained at the scene with the news media and appeared heartbroken by the news.
“I’m glad he’s been arrested — that they found the person who did it. Unfortunately, they haven’t located Jerry,” the Florida man said. “Jerry is still missing. They found out who killed him and now they just have to find him.
“This is far from over. I’m sure there is going to be questions — why, where and when,” he added. “You don’t just go on vacation and end up missing” for no reason.
Perdomo served in Iraq as a Marine and was hired as a Seminole County firefighter in 2009. Authorities are investigating why he traveled to Maine, Lt. Christopher Coleman, who leads the state police Major Crimes Unit for northern Maine, said Monday.
Authorities collected evidence from the Waldo County house over the weekend, including a rolled-up piece of carpet and other items, and have searched two cars driven by Porter as well as the missing Florida man’s rental car.
Porter and his 25-year-old girlfriend, Cheyanne Nowak, may have been the last ones to have contact with Perdomo, police have said.
At about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, a black truck with a snowmobile in the bed pulled into the driveway of the Jackson house, driven by a Maine game warden. The truck was accompanied by a state police cruiser.
The Bangor Police Department’s mobile crime lab arrived at the scene at about 3:30 p.m. After officers consulted a map and conferred with the game warden, the vehicle left the scene, heading toward the center of Jackson with a state police investigator in a separate car.
The group, which included Bangor police Detective Larry Ellis and Officer Eric Tourtellotte and state police Detective Jennifer Fiske, took a left onto the Village Road, heading toward Monroe, and stopped after about a mile.
After walking about a quarter mile down a stream-side trail, the group of three stopped and Ellis could be heard saying, “This isn’t it, I can tell you that right now. It’s too shallow.”
Asked what they were looking for, Ellis responded that he couldn’t give any specifics. “We’re trying to figure out if truths are being told,” he said.
Lerch said he could only speculate on what state police were doing with Porter at the last place his brother-in-law was seen.
“I don’t know what they are doing,” he said. “I’m not going to try and guess.”
Hundreds of firefighters from Seminole County are willing to come to Maine to search for their friend, Todak said.
“My main focus was to come up here and find Jerry,” he said. “When we find him, the mission will be successful.”
BDN photographer Kevin Bennett contributed to this report.

Kinda figured that this was where this was headed. So sad for all the families involved.
I hope that the body is found, so that the family will have complete closure.
no body and a murder charge?
how do you know they havent found his body yet?
A body isn’t required. If there is enough evidence that a struggle happened that the victim couldn’t survive (HUGE quantities of blood, maybe on the rug they removed?), then they can surmise that the person is dead.
Not saying that’s what happened here, but it’s happened in other cases before.
yea im sure if they dont have his body they have enough evidence and are probably trying to get him to tell where he is
After walking about a quarter mile down a stream-side trail, the group
of three stopped and Ellis could be heard saying, “This isn’t it, I can
tell you that right now. It’s too shallow.”
Sure sounds like those three cops are there to find the body. The cops back at the house probably made the arrest soon as they got a call saying the body had been found. I’m sure we’ll soon get confirmation if that’s the case.
Im thinking more like he owned up…told them roughly where the body is buried…probably his father had a hand in getting him to confess.
Maybe the guy confessed. Maybe he told them where the body is and they are trying to locate and retrieve it. It seems that might be the case since the helicopters can still be heard in the sky over the woods that separate my land from the woods of Jackson.
confession.
Think about it. They might not have the whole body but a small part of the body with a DNA comparison would be certain of a death and still majority of the body still not recovered. Just think.
I haven’t been wrong yet.
They said in the latest update that the body has not been recovered yet. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have enough evidence to support murder, just no actual body. They also said that the specifics would be released tomorrow or Thursday.
The authorities may have enough circumstantial evidence to charge someone with murder, but can you imagine a murder trial where the murder victim wanders into the courtroom during the trial? Corpus delecti – the body of the crime. Until the victim’s body is found or enough evidence exists to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt that it will never be found, the case is just circumstantial(even with a confession of guilt).
They have enough key pieces to know it’s him and he aint coming back. DO you need th details.
Perhaps you have access to information that hasn’t been published yet, but I don’t…and I don’t need details unless I’m sitting with 11 others who have to decide guilt or innocence in this case. You’re likely right…he probably won’t be coming back. However, he’s still a missing person until it can be proven otherwise(like the three year old toddler from Waterville and the hooker from Lewiston whose body still hasn’t been found).
the tv station did great reporting maybe they should help out on the baby Ayla case
Agreed—Something is very wrong here, all the police on this case, rivers and streams dragged, and people lying thru their teeth, the police know this also, there has to be a way to make these “people” talk—Surely this is still being looked into, even tho we hear nothing about it any more
Just because you KNOW someone is lying, doesn’t mean there’s enough evidence to prove it. They are doing everything they can to find Ayla. If anyone else thinks they can do better, then by all means, go become a cop, and see what you can do!
NO! THEY MUST LEAVE OR BE ARRESTED!!
This is about 20 minutes from here by road and it’s a lot closer if you go straight through the woods. There have been helicopters flying low overhead all day yesterday and it’s getting a lot more frequent right now. I can hear them as I type this.
Let’s hope they find what they need to close this mess.
some of those helicopters are news helicopters
news helicopters in Maine? Don’t think so.
you dont know florida you dont know news crews from other states
What you think they flew their helicopters all the way up here?
I don’t think it’s changed much at the airport over the years. If the type of aircraft you want to rent is not there they will have one flown in from another city.
It is the children of this man (Jerry Perdomo) who will suffer his loss into the future. It will be
interesting to see what the final answers are re: his disappearance.
I don’t usually comment in the paper, but, WTF!! Is there noone at all in this entire state that is safe?? Babies disappear without a trace, noone knows “anything”!! People come here for no other reason than to visit or see someone and they disappear?? Why the man was here, is not important. The fact that this State is becoming just like very other State is truly depressing!! “Maine The Way Life Should Be”?? Are you kidding me??
yea I think its time to start locking the doors at night.
Mine have been locked for some time; day and night. Sad times we live in.
I’ve always locked my doors ..day or night. It’s a sad fact of life that you never know and there is no “safe” place. Crime can happen anywhere.
Yep. Crime is like water. It follows the path of least resistance.
Well, your odds of being caught in the flood are inversely proportional to how much you know about buying oxi, bath salts or how often you and your running mates drink Allen’s Coffee Brandy.
So does anyone think we are winning the war on drugs, yet ?
No, but if we give up, then imagine the way life would be. It is easy to move here and get welfare with no waiting period, therefore the influx of users into our state.
You’ll get flamed for saying that here. According to the status quo, that isn’t happening here in Maine. RIGHT!
I have been locking my doors for 40 yrs
Locking your doors only keeps the honest people out.
True, but, if they come through a locked door you can shoot first and ask questions after.
No it doesn’t need to be locked. Dead people really can’t argue their case.
My friends and family don’t knock, they come right in. So I would really hate to shot first and ask questions later if my door was unlocked.
Slows them down long enough so I can take the safety off and get a better stance.
Maine has been a crap state forever. Im in FL now so I got the news on both ends. We all know how easy it is to get pain killers and drugs down here and we all know how much mainahs love em. I lived in Bangor area off an on for the last 20 years. It sucked then and it sucks now. My advice is… sorry theres nothing you can do. This entire circle j creates most of the jobs in your state and mine. Without crime you would be mostly out of jobs there. For those that may want to say something about this post. Cops, sheriffs, guards, probation officers, judges, DA’s, court staff, secretaries, rehabs, counselors, mental hospitals make up the majority of Maine jobs. The lower jobs and the fishing/lobster industry wouldnt be there without them sucking the state dry. INVEST IN SCHOOLS AND TAKE THE MONEY FROM THEM!
Have you noticed Florida is a complete wasteland as well? Nice weather yes, nice people, not really.
Florida is much much worse
Yup, it’s too bad, nice area otherwise.
I actually think the Apalachicola area and northern Maine are very similar.
I dont know but im near tampa and though im in a nice town everything around here is terrible. no one can drive, the schools suck, the people suck… great place for a vacation but dont move here! The people in Maine are for the most part the best around and having lived in most of the New England states NH and Maine is where I would want to be
Lotta good Christian folks In Appalach’. And oysters.
Errrrrsters!
My favorites – so crisp and clean taste of the ocean. Oystermen remind me of hard working lumberman. I haven’t looked it up, but I think that the same lumber barons that cut the Maine woods also cut around Apalachicola.
Have you been to northern Maine (which doesn’t include Jackson, by the way)???
It’s nothing like Appalachia. You’re just jealous.
Ahh, FrankC wasn’t talking about Appalachia, but an area (county?)of Florida.
Although, when I was growing up in The County 30 odd years ago, we all called it the ‘Appalachia of the North’. :)
Apalachicola – St George Island & bay
PS I live in northern Maine. sheez.
We, too, moved to Florida. They are much tougher on convicted child molestors here. There are far fewer per capita in our new town in Florida than there are in Bangor, Maine. The cost of living is lower, food is cheaper, and no state income taxes!
Gee..we should all move to crime free, drug free Florida…Is English still the first language there?
No
I don’t believe English was ever even the second language there. It’s much less common than that
Wow. That was a pretty racist comment. Incidentally, the Cuban food down here is AMAZING!
Perhaps you should follow and comment on the Florida news rather than frequenting the BDN.
Now, now. Be nice. Isolationism isn’t pretty, especially when all the info is on the web for all to see.
Really? A crap state? If you take any state and look at their problems they’d all be crap states according to your standards. I was born in Maine and I’ll die in Maine, because I love this state. And I must say, knowing that you’re not in it makes me love it that much more.
they could have dumped his body anywhere from maine to connecticut . i guess they have decided he will be tried in waldo county . i imagine Bensen will get that case he gets the high profile cases . he will go to waldo superior court for first court appearance . Eric Walker is DA in that court . Robert Murray is superior court judge though Jeff Hjelm could possibly be judge in that case does high profile cases
I’ve been thinking the same thing for the last few years…it’s certainly NOT the Maine I moved to 41 yrs. ago…
And they thought I was a wee touched with paranoia when I had my home alarm installed.
Did you get a safe to keep them in..????
You do understand this was not a random act, correct?
drug related… go firgure… :(
It was about as random as the shooting in Hermon.
Yes …. and maybe the media should no longer refer to the victim as the “Florida Firefighter” but rather the ‘Florida Drugrunner.”
Touche
It makes me wonder how many more “fine upstanding citizens” do that for money here in good old Maine. My bet given the drug problem (despite those who want to continue to bury their heads in the sand about our little ‘Mayberry” think) there are a lot more.
Let the comparisons to “the big cities” begin (not that I care about big cities because I don’t live in one for a reason – and happenings like this situation is why).
Reminds me of someone I knew back in the 70’s. He left from Maine to Texas to do a little “business”. Was only going to be gone 2 or 3 days. No one has ever heard from him again.
The Florida papers are reporting that he came up here to sell drugs (pills) – that’s not exactly a ‘vacation’ and its not exactly a random act of violence.
Nor is it a random act of benevolence.
I’m sorry the man is no longer living but it sounds like he was here for nothing good and died as a result. #1. he had a girlfriend Lisa here and a wife in FL and sounds as if there were some drug running going on. Maine is still a safe place to be, one needs to stay out of the drugs
that is what happens when “Mr Nice Guy” brings drugs from Florida to Maine………….
That’s right. We left Maine last summer (Bangor specifically) because of the high number of sex offenders and because of the ridiculous tax rates we could no longer justify paying. Why pay higher taxes just so your tax dollars can provide free food and housing for convicted child molestors in Bangor?
Yep…..if you build it they will come…We need a few more methadone clinics..more shelters….and..oh yeah.. let’s train our emergency medical staff so everyone else in the state sends their crazy bath salts druggies to our emergency room to beat up our nurses…
Okay, Bangor..When you dance with the devil you pay the price….The sad thing is so do a lot of other innocent people.. If the citizens really knew the demographic statistics of dangerous people with mental health issues on the streets, druggies and sex offenders… they would probably all be carrying concealed weapons….. I’d rather be in the wilderness with the bears..it’s safer…
You left Bangor because the TAXES were high, Sex Offenders, had nothing to do with it.
Incorrect. See: protectbangorkids.com
legally prescribed
Censorship sucks even more when you are telling the truth.
If Obama gets his way it is going to get much worse.
What the heck does that mean? What is Obama going to try to do to to aid the drug dealers and murderers, prostitutes etc.? I didn’t vote for Obama, but I question your statement! He too has two young kids, do you think as a parent he wants all of this crap going on? He isn’t that shallow or idiotic!
I agree with your statement, but ya gotta admit, not every kid is that isolated from the real world; being dropped off, guarded, then taken home from a private school to a fortress every day and everywhere.
It’s kind of a sad life for the girls, really. :)
Really???? “People coming here for no other reason to visit or see someone and they disappear??” Do you really believe that? Somehow I think there’s more to it than that…
I think he came here for other reasons than a visit….wake up…go to florida its so much better there,,lol
Everybody needs to own a hand gun forsure. Maine The Way Life Should Be and on the end of the sign it should say Vacation And Welfare State. Look at Lewiston Auburn Area. What a family of Fire Fighters Nationwide they stick together. Why do we even want to live in the State Of Maine crime keeps going up and up. Drugs are out of control and then comes the taxes!!! Know that depressing!!! Maybe Bangor Fire Department could set up a fund to help pay for the Florida FF that flow up here to help him with cost. Just post something and I would send a check to help. God Bless Him and his family
Why the man was here, how long he was here, how often he came here…. All important questions. Sounded suspicious from the beginning. Someone drives 1600 miles one way just to visit a “friend” for one or two days and then goes back.
From Florida no less.
Do I have to draw you a picture?
Really, WHY he was here is of no importance? It’s Maine’s problem that he’s dead? Read the articles. He seems to have been here to do a drug deal. He had been coming here regularly for almost a year and staying with a woman that didn’t know he was married.
This isn’t some unfortunate local hero that was randomly victimized, it appears that HE was a social predator and the risks of that avocation caught up to him. If there is a fault in Maine, its that so many of these OOS, urban minorities feel they are immune from those risks because we are so trusting.
I can’t wait to read the arraignment papers, they should be very interesting.
I have been saying this since last week. It’s just that only some early enough to read them before “post was removed” got to see them. Oh well, no loss.
Oxy’s Kill
I can’t imagine why this nice appearing young man killed him. This is worse then a soap opera. When they say truth is worse then fiction, this has to be the case.
Drugs Killed.
Okay disqus my comment on the drug mule getting killed was spot on can my comment be reinstated now?? I have said it since day one of this. No way does someone drive to Maine in a rental car and leaves his family behind in Florida multiple times a year and this not be drug related… Sad for his wife and kids but crime doesn’t and shouldnt pay… And we are all gonna get to hear just how much in the very near future…
All many of mine got deleated too. It is clear that some of us are in the know and others clearly are not. Those with their head in the clouds always make me laugh.
Either way, another reminder to carry a handgun, concealed, everyday…period.
This hole case is no great loss to society. It’s just too bad that law enforcement have had to spend so much time on it. They have better things to do.
Bushfan, don’t break an arm patting yourself on the back. It must be nice to be so smart.
Why carry a handgun? Do you associate with drug dealers? Random violence rarely happens in Maine.
Is this hole case a no great loss, or is this WHOLE case no great loss?
It may be spot on, but it’s still name-calling. Perhaps that’s why they removed it. Just a thought…
people on here get flag happy, mine was removed tonight for no reason.
I agree with the drug mule profile, but why kill the guy who’s willing to drive up from Fla once a month? Isn’t that killing the golden goose? There’s more here …. Sexual triangle perhaps. Jealousy ? If they or he had planned to kill this guy, it was a very bad plan … Sounds like an act of passion.
Let’s see what Lisa has to say. She must be a pillar in the community.
Drug deals go bad because one of the parties get greedy or feel cheated. I think robbery is more likely as Porter knew that Perdono had big cash and a valuable “inventory”.
Porter and Nowak may have personally “needed” that inventory as well.
Maybe, but this guy doesn’t sound that big ….. And again why kill the golden goose? His friend in Fla said he only came home with $2000 ……. Not that much …. Perhaps the firefighter/mule refused to deliver without $$$ from last month’s trip ….. An odd story indeed …..
money owed !
if crime doesnt pay ,why does eric holder have a job? :)
I was hoping he was alive…..this man had little kids…God Almighty ! People are Evil!!! now do we need the Firefighters from Fl to come find out who killed little baby Ayala as well???
Dumb comment! Especially when you consider the firemen did nothing other then post flyers. Not all crimes are the same.
What I’m saying is it didn’t take long to figure out what happened and who is to blame, unlike Baby Ayala…do they need help from the Fl Firefighters?… they removed a carpet within a few days, must have been blood on it I take it, how long did it take to find blood in the basement of Baby Ayalas home????? Thats what I’m talking about, If another state gets involved questions are quickly solved and answered…
No there not! Again, what did the firefighters have to do with what was found in the house? Also , just because you found out that there was blood of Aylas 6 weeks after she went missing doesn’t mean the cops didn’t know from a day or two in. God you people are ridiculous. To much CSI and Criminal Minds.
don’t you see that this man brought his death on himself by his actions??
My heart goes out to this mans wife and 2 children, Heaven knows why he was here in the first place, and even if it was to do bad deals, his wife and babies didnt not deserve this …my guess is, they dumped him in the woods, thats why the four wheeler and warden…..It seems everyone is going mental in Maine, People being murdered, Babies being taken and no one knows where, Idiots breaking into peoples homes in the middle of the night, and wondering why their friends get shot….no wonder they call us the Maniacs…..think its time to ship out and leave the crazies behind!…i for one dont want to raise my kids around people thinking its ok to kill or maim people.
so where does one go?
I have no idea, but if you ever find out can you let me know ;)
I know Dan. There is no way he could carry something like this out himself. Not even close to smart enough. Makes you wonder…
He is actually a very smark kid
a very smark kid? what is that?
Jackson Maine speak.
Excuse me? I grew up in Jackson and I take offense to your comment. Perhaps there are a few dullards there but there’s a hell of a lot more of them everywhere else.
So maybe he got tangled up with some very dangerous people. If so, he needs to tell the cops the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If he doesn’t know where the body is he can probably name somebody who does know.
one has to be smart to kill someone and get caught soon after the killing? I don’t think it requires being a rocket scientist.
Ummm if he was so smart why did he kill a guy?
They said he wasn’t even close to smart enough.
major crime has finally entered maine. maine has always been a place for dumping bodies great hiding places
Major crime has always been in Maine.
maine is now getting big city crime
Has always had “big city crime”.
It’s funny that everyone sees this man as a “ex-Marine” and “firefighter”, yet they don’t see drug-dealer, smuggler and a man who is committing adultry! Do you actually think that because of his past and background and work experiences that he doesn’t have a shady past? How about travelling to Maine every month to visit and wine and dine his girlfriend.. and to see the “wife” on t.v., she didn’t even shed a tear. Drug related, maybe…most likely, yes… and noone deserves to die. However, don’t make this man sound like a saint when he wasn’t. And, shame on you, Porter, for taking him away from his family, especially his children! They don’t need to suffer for their dad being a cheater and a drug-dealer. Mr. Florida, don’t peg Maine as a bad state… at least we have hard working people who you can talk to on the street (who actually speak English) and have morals. I’ve been to Florida many times and other than the resorts and amusement parks, who pay your welfare bill, there is not one area that I would live in.
Are you speaking of people posting? Because you would be way off if that is the case. Many on here see him as a drug dealer, a person who is only adding to the problem of perscription drug abuse in Maine.
Exactly what is the occupation of Porter and Nowak?
What makes you think Floridians do not have to work hard?? There are hard working people all over this country just because some of the people you may have ran into or associated with are lazy and immoral, it does not mean all Floridians are just that. On another note, I think that by now most people know that someone being in an honorable position does not mean they truly are “honorable”. It is sad because it can sometimes cast doubts on those that truly stand by their morals, ethics, and are truly honorable. Maybe your are referring to the people that want to see the good in everyone and thought he was really being someones “friend”;)
BDN editor: It is led not lead.
Great job Stephen McClausland and crew for a job well done!
“the detective ordered the TV crews to leave or be arrested.”Because there is martial law?
Apparently cops hate the way they look on video, try legally recording an officer sometime and see what happens!
Because they were on private property-maybe the elder Mr. Porter wanted them gone, knowing his son was about to be arrested??
since GEORGE W BUSH created the patriot act , they have continued to take away rights,as it stands right now they can do that ,,…look it up its true
Sad day for all involved hoping for a better outcome. My heart goes out to his family and his friends. Whatever he was up to by coming to Maine from Florida once every month had to be known by his wife. Am thinking that she liked the extra income he could get here in Maine. She didn’t seem upset to me at all in her interviews. IMO I hope they find him and have a decent burial for him. Good job to Bangor PD,MSP,warden service, his family that cared about him,BFD and his brothers from his fire department who came all this way to find him.
“Porter appeared to be carrying a beer, and he urinated on the side of the house and then went inside with investigators.”
http://www.wftv.com/news/news/police-may-conduct-more-searches-missing-firefight/nK7Lr/
If the cops would put up with that you can see why they didn’t want reporters or anybody else upsetting Porter. The timing wasn’t right. I have no doubts that the cops said some things to upset Porter later on.
Machias, Milbridge, Cherryfield, minimum Ellsworth need a methadone clinic. To many junkies from those parts coming to our city and bringing crime with them on our dime.
milbridge is loaded with folks who use pills ….even the ones you wouldnt suspect do it …..
Call the MDEA.
People on here keep commenting about the ‘girlfriend’ of this man Perdomo; has it been verified by
anyone other then the woman who called herself that ?? I haven’t read of anyone confirming that
relationship, have any of you?
Lisa right. Lisa Who?
GREAT JOB to all Maine Law Enforcement Officers involved!!! I am from FL and it is nice to see a case being worked without a total media circus of lies;)
one case involving ayla is lies
I guess now we know why his wife said he had friends all over.
Have they released wh Lisa is yet? Anyone here know?
Yeah, yeah, yeah…drug crime has become epidemic in our beautiful state. What’s new? This is tragic! Daniel Porter probably killed someone, and both were probably involved with drug crimes. But they both have families who love them and must be in a great deal of pain. Show some respect. It’s not all about you.
Good work, Maine State Police.
And Bangor Police, Game Wardens, and County Sheriffs who all helped. From reading and watching this story over the past week, it’s obvious there were a number of good men and women that contributed good work on this case….
Certainly
There’s still a baby girl missing up here. They should concentrate on this also
First what more should they be doing and second, how do you know they are not doing anything?
They are.
They found this poor guy, now what about Ayla?
These Maine drug-dealer criminals are so bush league and stupid. It’s bad enough that he was dealing in drugs, and infinitely worse that he killed the other guy, but to top it off, he’s so stupid that he cooperated with the police and gave them statements, rather than just shutting up. I mean, I’m glad that he did cooperate and that his cooperation probably led to his arrest. But as a criminal, he’s a real failure.
Wouldn’t be shocked if this has some more twists, like self defense.
I will say this as a fact: Down the road this will be a great tv movie and the wife will get paid for the rights to it..i for one wish the kids could get the money… poor kids.
i think it should say you just don’t go to maine on a drug deal an turn out to be missing but in this case thats the deal
ya and ya end up dead when someone owes you too much and you try to collect !
Why Maine? With all the states in the country, why would he come all the way to Maine? If he was wanting to make money doing drug deals, couldn’t he find a closer location?
Loser Mainers pay top dollar (EBT card, whatever, etc) for scrips. In Flordia you can get Oxy and the like with ease from your doctor, other, paradmedic?, etc….and cheap.
Because Central and Northern Maine are full of uneducated, untrained, unemployed people who are turning to drugs in droves, just like in any ghetto in the world. And that’s where drug dealers work, in ghettos. The manufacturing jobs are gone and aren’t coming back. The population has virtually no higher education or skilled job training. The ones that are smart enough and have enough courage have packed up and moved to places with job opportunities (the same way that the people with character and courage packed up and left Italy, Ireland, etc., to come to this country for a better life), and those that are left behind are too simple and afraid to do the same. It’s only going to get worse unless the locals get a clue and get an education, so, get used to living in a ghetto.
Lots of unproven assertions
You forgot to mention southern Maine with all the immigrants from other states and countries who bring the crime with them.
I take exception to your generalizations about individuals in northern and central maine. I have graduated with two degrees, including a Masters, have a successful business, am active in professional organizations with colleagues that have accomplished the same. Education, success and skill is not uncommon in northern and central Maine, and many of us choose to stay here with our careers and raise our families in communities that offer a wonderful way of life for those who choose to stay!

” Daniel Porter (second from right) is lead to a waiting police car by Maine State Police detective Brain Strout”
I assume he is the brains behind the arrest.
BDN proofreaders must be on strike.
i thought brian strout was a peusdo landscaper from milbridge?
Past tense of ‘lead’ is ‘led’. It’s sad that the computer spell-check doesn’t flag obvious errors like this.
I moved out of Maine. I am visiting up here for the first time in 2 years. For about one hour i started missing the place, than the novelty wore right off. i am soooo glad i moved out.
I noticed this got added to the story. I hope it’s true.
Bangor firefighter John Higgins, who was in Jackson earlier in the
day and who volunteered to help search for Perdomo’s body, said Tuesday
night that police “asked us to leave so they can start the search. They
have a pretty good idea where he is at.”
Am more and more disgusted by this reach for his 15 minutes. FF Higgins has been around long enough to know about not disturbing potential crime scenes. I understand wanting to find a fellow FF and reaching out to help the man’s friends and families, but where has your common sense gone? Seriously.
How do they actually charge him with murder without a body, or have I missed that they do have his body?
A body is not needed if there’s enough evidence. That could be a combination of physical evidence and witnesses (maybe the girlfriend). In this case it might be that he has confessed and they know where to look for the body. Read the last part of the story again and you’ll see that maybe they think the body is in a stream. I remember a case in San Diego where a young auxiliary cop was convicted and no body was found. He put on his uniform and “borrowed” a cruiser for a few hours. He was seen pulling the victim over like it was a traffic stop. He was convicted and I don’t think they have ever found the body. From what I remember I don’t think they had any blood evidence. He kidnapped the woman and took her somewhere. I think she was his ex-girlfriend or ex-fiancée.
cops know how to make a body disappear !
Confession, amount of blood recovered in the house, etc.
Lisa Who?
Hey Brain how are you doing
Not all crimes are the same, not all crimes are solved as easy as the next. I am tired of people who don’t even attempt to use capital letters and punctuation. I am tired of people using the economy as a reason to deal drugs. Let’s be honest they were doing it prior to the economy crashing and will continue after the economy rebounds. PS Maine has always had “City Crime”. For the most part “City Crime” is easy to avoid by not associating with drug dealers, child rapers, thieves, drunks, etc!
It’s easier to avoid it here than some other places I lived. Some places you trip over it when you step out the door in the morning.
Agreed, but for the most part, the crimes we read about daily are not random. Granted there have always been exceptions.
I guess I am missing something. How can one be arrested for murder, when a missing person hasn’t been found yet? It can’t even be validated he is even dead.
Depends what the physical evidence is and the statements made by those involved.
This is unfortunate, and the worst part is two children who are going to grow up with out their father. So many posters on here saw this coming though.
I cannot believe that all of these murders are going on in Maine. I am from Connecticut and we expect that there but I have been here over 30 years and have never seen this type of thing in Maine. I just pray for all the victims, and their families and I hope that things get better for everyone.
I blame Bush.
It disgusts me that people have been talking about this drug dealer as if he were a hereo, just because he was a fire fighter. He gives those true heroes a bad name.
I am sorry this guy is more than likely dead but
all indications are he is just another drug dealer.
I find it hard to not believe that his wife had no
idea what was going on. He came to Maine to either
deal or purchase drugs. If he wasn’t a firefighter would
this have gotten this much attention?
I am more interested in what
the outcome of the missing baby will be.
all those floridians coming up here to search is a joke. i wonder how many pounds of drugs came with them?
Those idiots were fellow co workers and his father who probably had no clue what he was up to. They did what they felt they had to do. The true idiots in this case are the victim and the 2 that killed him.
Proubably a lot for him to drive all this way.
Why bother to arrest him, from what I see Maine doesn’t punish violent criminals anyway! I read every day about habitual criminals being re-arrested and then released again on minimal bonds! Most end up back on the streets to steal, beat, rape, kill and deal drugs, it is only a matter of time!!!
Where are all the people who were insisting Cheyanne Nowak should have been locked up a week ago?
I guess many of the junior detectives on this site forgot about that conviction they had already made. Funny she wasn’t arrested too!
Drugs are a horrible thing. It doesn’t seem to be getting any better around here. I think we need to step it up and try to combat this problem better. It is so sad to think that one upon a time, Dan Porter was just a little innocent boy and now look at him. What went wrong along the way? What specific day or event in this guy’s life encouraged him to become so involved in drugs and brave enough to kill another person? We all start as innocent children. Is it the lifestyle of the parents? Is it the lack of quality of friendships that we have to choose from? What is it?
Guitto’s Karma has hit hard……
Touche’ as long as theres drugs, arms, dealers and buyers we will never win! Oops, I almost forgot, politicians.
In response to disqusbites, Touche’ as long as theres drugs, arms, dealers and buyers we will never win! Oops, I almost forgot, politicians.
I found it interesting some of the relatives and friends coming up here from Florida, they did not have much color from the sun on their faces from living in the Sunshine State. They either stay indoors ALOT or not in Florida all that much.
Really?
I lived in Florida they do stay indoors a lot. It’s to hot and humid durning the day.
strange observation
So unfortunate, but so predictable…
What a a smudge on the firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Seminole County Fire Department. Wonder if they knew they had a Drug Dealer on their team. Well at least there won’t be one more way for illegal drugs to come into the beautfiul state of Maine.
Still wondering who the mysterious “Lisa” is who came forth with the statement about Perdomo having come to Maine once a month for the last ten months to see her. Was she looking for her minute of “fame,” or is she connected to the drug-involved murder? What a shock for his wife and two children–or maybe not, after seeing the swanky home in the neighborhood background when Mrs. Perdomo had a press conference from her home.
It is clear young Jerry had a momentary lapse in judgement. Why hang him for crimes that he perhaps had planned on stopping, changing.? He has a good family that loves him and friends that care very much about him.
would you be saying the same thing if he was a store clerk with missing and rotted teeth, and wasnt a good looking man? certainly he did not deserve to die, but it appears he is/was a drug pusher. how long has he been bringing that poison up to our state? Maine has a big enough drug problem as it is and we dont need the help from a “hero” firefighter pushing that crap up here.
“Momentary”??? Are you that blind. He has been making these trips for months at least.
A little confused here. How can you arrest someone and not have a body? You went into the dads house and removed “evidence”? Sounds familier with the moms house of Baby Alya. So why no charges on the dad? This is a baby she needs to be found!
Well. A couple of ways.
1. Enough of the body found that would guarantee death with a positive DNA match. I wont get to detailed but you can imagine right?
2. Confession
3. Multiple witnesses.
All three of the above.
Assume that is why there has been little mention of the girl, Cheyanne. She’s probably the only reason he’s been arrested. She got scared and spilled the beans.
BUT a good lawyer will still get you off.
Body parts or remains don’t tell”who did it.”.
Confessions can be false or forced.
witnesses can lie or be mistaken.
Like in Casey Anthony case! She got off easy! Shocking how some of these things turn out sometimes its all in who you know.
a confession perhaps?
They Got a body now!
No one is convicted of anything yet, BUT I think it is time the press stopped referring to Jerry Perdomo as a “firefighter” we are no longer sure what he did for a living.
another drug deal gone bad,im sure with all the drugs that come here from florida, why else make the trip once a month
Since the jobs left Maine long ago, I am really amazed how drug infested Maine has become. Seems most of the population is involved in the drug trade in Maine. Washington County is totally drug infested.
Once the jobs leave or there are few living wage jobs to be had is when alcoholism, drug abuse and crime start running rampant. Maine is not the only place that has had jobs leave, I think every state has been affected by outsourcing and corporate greed. Its sad but really people just lose hope and turn to other things. My condolences to both families affected by this terrible crime.
You write this trash over and over… I’m sure to get a rise out of people.
Here I am living here in Washington County and most of my friends don’t even drink…forget about drugs.
I suppose it is always good to have someone you think is worse off than you. hope it makes you feel better.
Harry, living in Washington County is your problem not mine. I moved out many years ago when I saw the Junkies start to move in. Good luck trying to sell a home in Washington County now. The word is out all over the country not just Maine. Don’t even get me started about Alcoholism in Washington County. You must walk around with blinders all day as the jails fill up with your neighbors.
I live in Washington County, and you don’t. You still have the
temerity to tell me how things are here.
My house isn’t for sale and won’t be while I’m alive.
Hope you enjoy where you live now.
wont be long then
i am from here born and raised, moved out to seattle for 15 yrs thought with my new child be a great place to raise kids.i was wrong maine has become the biggest dog hole of a place and dont see even raising a pet here, putting house up for sale then good bye maine,
I’m sure you’ll find some other state where the crime is lower…. maybe.
how about michigan? I’ve heard there’s some really cheap homes for sale in detroit.
My experience has been that people who blame “place” for their misfortune and unhappiness, are not happy or fortunate anywhere.
Good luck …. you might try Newark New Jersey, or East St. Louis Illinois I hear the crime rates are different there.
hey … parts of Newark are pretty nice or “not bad” .. And you can get real pizza delivered ! LOL
Yeah, but it’s still not as safe as Bangor, and the people who are crying about the crime rate here would be biting their nails and sitting in their basements even in the “nice” Newark neighborhoods.
bangor is the friggen worse place in maine to live bigger cities have less crap going on than that dog hole
are you high, whoops its maine course ya are..
Good luck finding that perfect new place…wake up.. Yes, there are problems here, but there are more, bigger, and darker problems in many other areas… The world is just not a perfect place.
i been all over the united states so dont tell me where is beteer or worse most mainers havent even left this state and the new england staes dont count
ouch…..I, too have been many places, raised in military family which continued to my travels (globally) with my profession…Just saying… I’ve never seen a perfect place yet.. WE all live in our own illusions….
No body ? Murder charges ? Sounds like the Keystone cops are at it again…..
maybe you don’t know as much as you think you do
i said drug deal gone bad at first artical and my comment was removed
Maine is probably still one of the more peaceful states, but when something hits the fan, it really is big news. At the root of it all: greed, drugs, alcohol, sex, poor parenting, lack of sufficient (legitimate)income and relationships gone bad. Oh yes… lobster trap mischief. What did I miss?
” Porter and his 25-year-old girlfriend, Cheyanne Nowak, may have been the last ones to have contact with Perdomo, police have said.” But NO mention on Cheyanne? What’s the deal with her? Did she not also run away with him after he “murdered” this man?
How do you know how much the house cost? It’s florida, real estate is dirt cheap down there.
So not true!
Check out http://livewire.wesh.com/Event/Court_Documents_Released_In_Firefighter_Murder_Case
I’ve learned more from this than I have from reading BDN…and it continues to give you live updates.
Another not so bright move hanging out in Jackson? so when he gets arrested he ends up in Waldo county instead of Penobie,im betting penobie has the better facilites ? or does Waldo have a brand new joint ?
The only sad part of this story is that Porter won’t get life in prison. I don’t feel bad for a drug runner getting killed.
Regardless of his reasons for being here in Maine, this man was someones son, husband, brother, dad, friend, etc. He also did not deserve to die at someone else’s hand. This whole mess is just very sad.
just very sad all lives involved regardless of situation and why. So many lives ruined from this. A wife and two children will miss their loved one. The life of a young man forever changed. A fire station full of firefighters wondering why their brother is gone. A family wondering when they will take their loved one home to lay to rest. The actions of all involved are what they are just extremly sad. When did we as a society make comments that are offensive and just plain rude. Just take time to reflect on how much lives are changed.
He came up north to sell drugs, according to current newpaper reporting. The brotherhood of firefighters must be so proud. Any red faces BFD?
Wasn’t there a mention of this guy and girl friend being in Conn or some other state in an earlier write up?. They could have dumped the body out of state.
The officer that yelled at the media needs a lesson in how important the media can be; sometime the person being arrested will say something that can be very useful against him in a court of law. The Miranda code does not apply to the media.
What about the female that was with Porter?
