PENOBSCOT – Alice Motycka, 83, died Feb. 28, 2012, at her home. She was born July 2, 1928, in Queens, N.Y., to Fred and Margret Schmitz.
Alice earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from State Teachers College at Framingham, Mass., and a master’s degree in education and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in language arts from the University of Maine. Alice will be remembered as a teacher at the Adams School, Castine, teaching first and second grades, and later in the English immersion programs at Husson University and Eckerd College. In retirement Alice was active as a volunteer for literacy causes and for The Ark Animal Shelter thrift shop, Blue Hill.
She is survived by her son, Fred Motcyka and wife, Karen, and grandson, Evan; and by her son, George Motycka and partner, Joceline Boucher, all of Penobscot.
A time of remembrance will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity.
