STOCKTON SPRINGS – Goldie McKeen Arey, 86, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Penobscot Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. She was born May 2, 1925, in Stockton Springs, the eldest of five children born to James and Nina (Leach) McKeen.
Goldie was very proud to graduate from Stockton Springs High School in 1942. She enjoyed yard sales, gardening, antiquing and singing. She also was an avid reader.
She is survived by three daughters, Vivian Wardwell and husband, Raymond, of Verona Island, Dixi Sorey of Stockton Springs and Kitty Schmutte of Lewiston; nine grandchildren, Susan, Joyce Mike, Donnie, Doriann, Dealesa, Sheryl, Jody and Seth; 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one sister, Judy Littlefield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones. In addition to her parents, Goldie was predeceased by three husbands, Leo Murray, John Howard and most recently Wilbur L. Arey; one son, Peter Howard; two grandsons, Joshua Hampton and Samuel Huddleston; two great-grandsons, Jason Sorey and Robert Powers; two brothers, James McKeen and Darrell McKeen; and one sister, Annette Mushrall.
Family and friends will gather for visitation 1 p.m. until the time of service 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Clayton Wadsworth officiating.
