AUGUSTA, Maine — A recent poll suggests Maine voters may reverse their 2009 decision and legalize same-sex marriage this fall.
A survey conducted by North Carolina-based Public Policy Polling of 1,256 Mainers over the weekend revealed that 54 percent believe same-sex marriage should be legal. Forty-one percent said Maine should not allow gay couples to wed.
In November, voters will be asked for the second time in three years how they feel about an issue that has become a wedge in many states across the country.
When asked a question that is similar to what will be on the ballot — “Do you favor a law allowing marriage licenses for same-sex couples that protects religious freedom by ensuring no religion or clergy be required to perform such a marriage in violation of their religious beliefs?” — 47 percent of those polled said yes, 32 percent said no and 21 percent were not sure.
“It looks like Maine will reverse its 2009 vote on gay marriage this fall,” said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. “That’s symbolic of the shift in public opinion that’s occurred on this issue over the last few years.”
The poll was conducted in tandem with a survey of the U.S. Senate race in Maine in the wake of Olympia Snowe’s decision to forgo reelection to a fourth term.
The PPP survey skewed slightly Democratic. Of those polled, 43 percent identified themselves as Democrats, 34 percent as Republicans and 23 percent as unenrolled. The poll also had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percent.
The poll also showed Maine Gov. Paul LePage with a 52 percent disapproval rating, down from a similar PPP poll conducted last fall.
If the 2010 gubernatorial election was held now, independent Eliot Cutler had support of 43 percent polled, followed by LePage (35 percent) and Democrat Libby Mitchell (19 percent).
The poll predicted that Democrats are in strong position to make gains in the state Legislature. Fifty-one percent said they would generally vote for Democratic candidates if the election were held today, compared with 37 percent of voters who preferred a Republican candidate.
Among independent voters, 42 percent say they would vote for Democrats and 28 percent say they would vote for a Republican.
The House and Senate are both controlled by Republicans for the first time in several decades.

How often are polls skewed? Very often, I would say. This is the beginning of liberals telling a lie so often it begins to sound like the truth. It will be a very sad day for Maine and her people to have this vote pass in November. But, the proponents were able to get their signatures with the monetary help(over $200,000., I believe was reported) of Chellie Pingree Sussman’s husband, S. Donald Sussman, so they got off to a great well-funded, but what they termed a “voluntary” effort last year.
the lies came from the right in the last election, Maine won’t be fooled this time around.
Then again, we don’t know who contributed what to the anti-gay side, do we? For some strange reason they don’t wish to divulge that information. What are they so intent on hiding?
My guess is they don’t want their friends and neighbors finding out they are narrow minded bigots. Even they know they are on the wrong side of history.
Meanwhile we go door-to-door in neighborhoods and march in the streets and everyone can see our faces.
Do you know where the PPP came from? I do, but it seems they left that out of the article.
then enlighten us…
I did not recieve a phone call, but nothing has changed on this ponderosa. I am still “no” on gay marriage. Civil unions are fair, but marriage? I just can’t bring myself to vote against the birds and the bees. Birds and birds? Bees and bees? Naw, it just won’t work.
crawl back into your cave and stay there
Just have to attack don’t ya? Must be in the gene’s.
I learned from the best…Rush Limbaugh
Erm…
Birds mate with birds, not bees.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
Most companies that provide health benefits to the spouses of straight, married employees are perfectly free to deny those same benefits to the partners of civil-unionized employees. And there is nothing that can be done at the state level to fix that … aside from enacting full marriage equality and waiting for DOMA to fall. So how are civil unions fair??
Companies don’t have to provide anyone with benefits it’s their company and their choice.
Sure, and it’s the employee’s choice to work for a fair-minded employer.
If a company chooses not to provide benefits to anybody, that’s fine. (I didn’t say anything to suggest otherwise, so try re-reading my comment.) But IF they DO provide benefits to their employees, they DO have to provide them in a fair and equitable manner to ALL their employees, as per protections specified in ERISA and other laws. They can’t for example decide to only provide benefits to the spouses of only white employees, but refuse to do likewise to spouses of black employees. The point of the exchange was that most employers DO have the right to deny benefits to the partners of civil-unionized, gay employees, even if they provide benefits to spouses of married, straight employees … and that shoots down any argument that civil unions provide the same rights and protections as marriage.
Who knows, they might be able to provide whatever patchwork coverage they want in the future based on “religious beliefs.
What is the difference between Civil unions and marriages? Your playing a word game that doesn’t matter. All marriages are “Civil unions” in the eyes of the state. The state should simply stop using the word marriage at all. Get your your “civil union” from the state and get married by the tenants of whatever religion you follow and this becomes something we can all stop talking about.
Civil unions are actually not fair: http://www.gardenstateequality.org/civilunionsdontwork/
Only marriage has the rights and respect that marriage has.
I was called and all the questions were neutral. Many many many questions on the newly open senate seat and then governor. It took a long time to get around to the same-sex question.
Well, James……you must feel just like Joseph, who married a 12-14 year old virgin by the name of Mary. Also in that heterosexual marriage, there were no “birds and bees” and Joseph ended up raising a boy who really wasn’t his. Guess that’s what your crowd calls a “traditional marriage”.
Keep bringing religion and the Bible into it. Not everyone against gay marriage is focused on the Bible.
That’s absolutely true. However, MANY people do use religion in their arguments against it.
Neither insect nor fowl are mentioned anywhere in civil marriage law.
Huh. I just read that Jame’s comment again.
Procreation has nothing to do with legal marriage. You know that, right?
And marriage isn’t necessary for procreation, either.
When this was last voted on there was such a hatred campaign who erroneously forcefed us a constant diet of homosexuality being forced down our kids throats in school and in other areas that a lot of people were just plain scared. It was easier for them to just repeal what the people of Maine had already voted to approve than to educate themselves. I think in the years that have passed, many have been educated and will not fall for the “Hate” campaign this time. In the very least its pretty obvious that those who oppose are not as loud because they know this time they will have to be KNOWN, rather than do it secretly.
The Political machine passed the same sex marriage law not the people. The people voted to not have same sex marriage. So now your saying the people who voted are haters?
Hmmm…didn’t we elect our representatives to do just that? Pass laws? Isn’t that what “the machine” is for?
So, should it pass this year, what will the excuse be? That the Mass*le liberals bussed in illegal immigrants to same-day register all over the state?
Some people will never accept change. I should know. I’ll never accept those stupid compact fluorescent bulbs….
Elected representatives don’t always get it right do they. Didn’t we just overturn the voter registration law? Sometimes change isn’t good and those damn bulbs …………………
I see what you’re saying, but it seems that sometimes people say that they had no right to pass that law. In fact, they did.
The mercury from those bulbs will certainly be bad for the earth and our children for whom we’re supposed to be saving said earth. Not to mention they take so long to warm up!
na they just throw out the votes and make the numbers what they want like what they did with Romney and Ron Paul. It’s all about what side pays them the most and Romney’s pretty rich he dismembered alot of American company’s.
I think the description was ‘scared and misinformed’ which was Mark Mutty’s admitted goal.
You mean they don’t want to go to health classes in school’s and introduce kids to what being gay is, and that it’s ok to be gay?Remember when Ellan came out of the closet all kinds of kids were running around saying they were gay for month’s lol.I’m an hour north of Bangor and nobody included my house hold in this poll . So is this a Maine poll?,,,if so the left out half the State. No surprise I guess the Obama’s don’t even realize the roads keep going north of Portland.
The fact that your house wasn’t called doesn’t mean that no one north of Bangor was called.
“You mean they don’t want to go to health classes in school’s and introduce kids to what being gay is, and that it’s ok to be gay?”
No “they” don’t. That was part of NOM’s lies leading up to the 2009 vote which they admitted was a lie AFTER the election. Here is the truth, what is taught in your local school system is left up to your local school board. It was that way in 2009 and hasn’t changed.
~~~~~
“Remember when Ellan came out of the closet all kinds of kids were running around saying they were gay for month’s lol.”
Can’t say that I do. My daughter was in school then too. I don’t recall her mentioning it or any of her friends either.
~~~~~
“I’m an hour north of Bangor and nobody included my house hold in this poll . So is this a Maine poll?,,,if so the left out half the State.”
I have given this info to you at least once before but since you keep bringing it up “the poll” here is the info again. IF YOU HAVE BASIC METHODOLOGICAL QUESTIONS, PLEASE E-MAIL information@publicpolicypolling.com, OR CONSULT THE FINAL PARAGRAPH OF THE PRESS RELEASE. Maybe you should take them up on it rather than continuing to complain about the methodology used.

“No surprise I guess the Obama’s don’t even realize the roads keep going north of Portland.”
Well as he President and his family have been to Bar Harbor (that is “north of Portland” isn’t it?) I am willing to bet they realize we have roads “north of Portland”.
This is a no-brainer. Be fair, folks.
That is ok James, you are entitle to your opinion. I am not gay either, but i have to ask myself a question. If my son or daughter were to come home and tell me they are gay, do i want them to enjoy the same freedoms that i do, or do i want them to be persecuted? To me it was a very easy answer, for others, maybe not.

Fine…but the U.S. is a secular country that does not use the Bible as the basis of its laws. If we did use it as the basis of our laws then divorce, abortion, etc…would be illegal. They aren’t.

Waving the white flag I see.
Actually, If I were to be castigating, criticizing or condemning ANY of our former Rebublican leaders (from the top down) then the BDN/DISQUS moderators would just let it slide on through.
However, considering the fact that I, 357magman, have chosen to take on the Liberal SACRED Cow = HOMOSEXUALITY… then my free speech opinion is no longer allowed without observation, selection & decisions being made by some others IF it is to be allowed.
So, you HOMOSEXUALS may Think that you have won the battle, but the War is Far from over. NOT a Threat, just the facts.

A private comment board operated by a private company can edit or remove any post they feel violates their terms for posting. They can also ban posters that repeatedly violate the terms of agreement we all agreed to when we signed up so we could post comments.
Perhaps they just are horrified by your inability to use the English language?
i have not attacked you personally
so where’s the beef ?
Wow. That’s messed up, brah. Did you really bring AIDS into this discussion?
LOL…you are kidding right? I almost couldn’t stop laughing. Do you actually think your statement even slightly resembles any form of tolerance? You suggest we will all either die from AIDS, be “eradicated”, or have our “disease” judged as a form of “perversion”. You call our lifestyles “horrible and vile” and accuse our supporters of tearing pages from their bibles. Something tells me, you wouldn’t want to be treated as you treat other people. If you would really like to have a bunch of insults hurled at you, because I disagree, I would be more than obliged to do so. Yours is a pathetic intolerant statement, that only emphasizes bigotry. You have a lot to learn when it comes to any form of tolerance.
Notice how I can disagree with you, without calling a part of who you are a “disease”?
Without predicting how you will die, or making ASSumptions about another person’s religious practices, and without calling you horrible or vile? You say “And do Not dare to attack MY Opinion based on Your selfish Preferences” but nearly every word in your response is an attack against those you don’t agree with. Yeah..I do hope you are treated as you treat others.
Thankyou for your support, you are so kind.
What you just did right here in this forum was against God, the Bible, and everything it stands for. You are no longer valid.
Your pen name isnt even valid…God said thou shalt not kill. Why do you need a 357? Good bye
Is 357magman the one whose posts keep getting removed? If so, why isn’t he/she just banned. If for no other reason than the longwinded, nonsensical dribble like above?
Persecuted?
That is a bit of a drama queen definition of not being allowed to change the definition of marriage. Just as when the military was polled, it is propaganda intended to sway those who follow instead of lead.
In other words… “I didn’t like the results = propaganda”. It is ALWAYS the messengers fault.
Some very interesting information if you take the time to look into the “internals” of the poll.
Don’t want gay marriage? Don’t get one!
I’ve convinced three of my friends who were on the fence last time to vote against gay marriage. So I know minds are changing.
Good for you. Let’s see what happens when they close the curtain and vote.
Want to get married? Do it with the opposite sex.
Again, love is never a part of their discussion on why people get married.
So, it’s fine for any one man to marry any random one woman-no love required. Just the ability to make a baby with the right plumbing. Is that what the sanctity of marriage is about?
It’s about men and women, nothing to do with making babies.
Okay. That’s your argument and I apologize for saying otherwise. However, many people state that marriage is only a man and a women for the purpose of procreation.
Sure, you free? ;) hahaha!
Maybe you are the one who needs to seek counseling if you have been brainwashed to think that gay folks don’t live “normal” lives.
James if your son or daughter came home and announced they were gay, they would be leading an normal life, one of honesty. Which would mean you raised them well. And “Normal” is being changing every day. It used to be normal for women to stay home and have babies. It was normal for whites to marry whites, etc. It was normal for people to stay married 50 years.
The vast majority of scientific study disagrees with your assumption about the causes of homosexuality. Data points to a very large genetic (born that way) component.
You are insulting every single gay person and parent of a gay person with your statement.
You say your being respectful of other peoples opinions but you are not. Your implying that it is the fault of a parent providing an “unhealthy atmosphere” for their children and “making them” gay. That is a lie and an insulting bigoted attitude. Nothing respectful about it.
Never seen a study that state’s anything about genetic’s being the reason. Just saying it does make it so.
So what then, its a birth defect?
….
It’s a lifestyle choice. Plane a simple.
*yawn*
So, let’s just say that I DID choose, against my God-given will, to turn my nose up at Betty and go with Reggie instead, who is a man and that’s just disgusting.
So what?
Sorry to make you sleepy. I didn’t state anything was discussing, you did. The “so what” is the gay lobby hangs there hat on this as being a genetic issue. That is where the water get murky. I’m not picking a side, just stating that call it for what it is, and not what you believe it is, and quit ramming it down peoples throat. Enough again.
How is it being rammed down your throat?
We have had to endure months of informative television ads, and door to door “outreach” campaigns in the past, and have decided on it at the polls. If this is defeated again this year, we will not only get to witness the same social programming that we did in 2010, but we will get it this year, and also in years to come. If a couple of any gender wants legal protections, a trip to the lawyers office, and the appropriate documents drawn up would accomplish the same results, with the exception of a higher income tax rate. I am assuming gay couples are willing to pay the marriage penalty.
And if the people who are complaining about it being rammed down their throat had let the legislature’s new law stand, then you wouldn’t have had to endure it in 2009 and again in 2012.
As for stuff being rammed down throats, every day, all my life, I am surrounded by images of “man and woman” being rammed down my throat. Watching tv, boy and girl” is being rammed down my throat. Reading magazines, the same. Or, how about being told that I am evil-that’s rammed down my throat more often then I’d like. Being told I’m going to hell, being told that I’m deviant, less than, and that I should die. That’s been rammed down my throat now and then.
Had this law been left alone, your life probably would have gone on without a hitch. But your idea of exclusion certainly has not let my life continue the way I’d like to (and in a way that would not affect you or most anyone else).
A trip to the lawyers office? Is that all it takes? Appropriate documents that cost thousands of dollars and there STILL might be some issues that haven’t been thought of? If that’s all a marriage is, then I applaud you for supporting your local lawyer. *I* think a marriage is more than a stack of legal documents and a marriage is what I’ll have in the end.
No, the legal documents are not thousands of dollars. It’s far less expensive than most weddings, and all the legal protections are covered, more so than a marriage certificate will provide. With that and true love, what more does one need?
This is entirely incorrect.
You cannot gain access to military housing when your partner is away on active duty without civil marriage, period.
You cannot gain social security benefits from your partner without civil marriage, period.
Many of the 1,100+ benefits and privileges of civil marriage are not reproducible through any other legal means, period.
Is that what you did?
You have obviously done some research. During your research, have you discovered why straight folks (who are so very concerned about protecting marriage) have not made any real effort to ban the most obvious threats to marriage.. divorce and adultery? It is a legitimate question.
So how is being able to get married going to change what you claim to endure? No more “man and woman” being rammed down your throat? Will TV change? Will some people stop saying you are going to hell or deviant or should die? No. It would not change any of that.
If a man and woman wish to be protected in a marriage, they too would have to go to an attorney and have legal documents drawn up in the form of a pre-neptual.
You’re correct, that will be the majority of images still, but that was a response to someone saying that gay marriage is being rammed down his throat. I never said that it would end once I am able to marry my partner.
True-a straight couple can get a prenuptial agreement, but that’s entirely optional. A straight couple does not need to get one, whereas a gay must pay the legal fees to get even the most basic protections that the state issued legal document that’s a marriage license will afford.
Yes well we all have to pay for our lifestyle. I have a pickup so I have to pay to insure it. I like to hunt so I have to pay for that. I have to pay for contraception, you don’t. In fact, if you’ve paid attention to the news lately, contraception costs about $1K per year, so if you have to pay a couple $K for a legal document that should last you about 50 years, you’re ahead of the game. So, if the government decides that we have to pay for everyone’s contraception, you should get a tax break, how can you beat that? It would all even out.
Not paying for contraception hardly evens things out with regard to everything that is automatically provided by a marriage license.
And I do pay for contraception. I pay for it in insurance premiums and taxes. And don’t forget the condoms.
You are truly ridiculous. Please stop. Your complete lack of logical thought makes my head hurt.
Perfect
You are of course free to believe that ” If a couple of any gender wants legal protections, a trip to the
lawyers office, and the appropriate documents drawn up would accomplish
the same results, with the exception of a higher income tax rate” but they don’t.
Marriage is recognized in all 50 states without exception. Power of Attorney, Durable Medical Power of Attorney and Health Care Proxies protections, etc… vary from state to state. They do not provide the same “protections”.
A trip to the lawyers office? Is that like a trip to the candy store? Do you enjoy trips to your lawyer? Can you afford regular trips to the lawyer? I can’t I dont’ know any lawyers. Your (almost) successful attempts at being non-biased have failed.
So you should be able to prove that it is a lifestyle choice then?
Let me help you by asking a simple question, if homosexuality is a lifestyle choice then it should follow that heterosexuality is also a choice. When did you choose heterosexuality over homosexuality?
I think ergonomics is enough to answer that question. Pretty easy to figure out.
Ergonomics is the study of designing equipment and devices that fit the human body, its movements, and its cognitive abilities. Yeah OK…what ever you say.
Great, another straight person obsessed with sex, genitalia and where it goes. I’m sorry your marriage is all about sex instead of love and intimacy. No wonder so many straight people abuse children/wives/siblings/strangers, etc.
JD, if you can say that “it should follow that heterosexuality is also a choice” you are implying that homosexuality is normal behavior. That is a ridiculous analogy. You do ask a question, but then you expect the answer to come from your previous statement. It doesn’t matter how they got that way, what matters is if they are allowed to change the definition of marriage.
OSOK I am not implying anything, just asking a question. If people maintain that homosexuality is a choice, then people have the “choice” to choose heterosexuality too.
And the “definition of marriage” has “changed” twice in my lifetime. The first time was 1967 when the SCOTUS issued their Loving v. Virginia ruling and the second time was 2003 when the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts issued their ruling on Goodridge v. Department of Public Health.
There it is again. It is like giving someone a mathematical equation and providing the mathematical constant to figure the problem. Your constant says heterosexuals choose also. So what can we possibly come up with for an answer? Only the one you want.
Your reasoning would fry my ballistics calculator. I need to hit a 800 meter target with a 10 mph wind from my right, but I can only move clicks to the left.
I have no idea if homosexuals choose, and don’t really care, but I do know for a fact that heterosexuals do not.
If you know you do not choose to be heterosexual then why do people assume that homosexuality is a choose?
I never said it was a choice, I would have no way of knowing that. I know that heterosexuals do not choose, it is naturally occurring. It probably wouldn’t be questioned if they would quietly and privately do their own thing, but it’s quite obvious that the flaming type of homosexuals who love to flaunt it are looking for attention. Why do they feel the need to advertise?
What about those who don’t flame? Can we have rights, then??
And what about those heterosexuals that do flame? Paris Hilton flames. And many men flaunt their severe masculinity.
You already have rights. You just can’t marry the same sex.
The homosexuals I know do not “flaunt” and are not “flamboyant”. In fact, you wouldn’t know they were gay if they didn’t tell you.
Where in Maine do you see flaming and flaunting of homosexuality? EVER? Or maybe just in your imagination?
Bangor Mall, Christmas time, one of the booths in center mall. Did you happen to catch that?
One time in the Bangor mall? That’s it? Turn on your Tv to basketball on ESPN tonight and watch for two hours. Count the number of times you see advertisements using sexuality to sell products to straight men. That includes every time you see cheerleaders (that is why the are dressed in skirts). How many straight couples were holding hands at the Bangor Mall the same week? You MUST be trying to win some “stupid comment of the day” award.
By saying homosexuality is not normal, you are implying that you have some evidence to that (as opposed to pulling talking points off whatever anti-gay site you come across). Which you don’t. Just opinions.
Are you saying it’s normal behavior or is it abnormal behavior?
We can only get so crude, and specific on here.
Do you avoid people displaying abnormal behavior?
OSOKRecon, you obviously consider being gay about just sex. That is sad for you. Maybe a therapist could help?
Not picking a side cmy6? Don’t lie now! This argument about having PROOF of a gay gene is just another excuse people drag out to confuse everyone. There is more than enough EVIDENCE. We don’t require PROOF that God (any God) exists for religious freedom and to protect religious beliefs. And most of the so called evidence is in ancient scripts that are re-translated and often ignored.
It is not a choice. Plain and simple. There, I’m glad it was just that easy to sum up!
I beg to differ!
No need to beg, simply explain
You honestly think being gay is a choice? There’s a cave waiting for you…
As much as blond hair or brown eyes are.
And remember, folks-the fact that there has not been a gene isolated that can code for a specific “behavior” such as homosexuality doesn’t mean people aren’t born that way!!!
Born that way is a pitiful excuse to explain gay. Get real.
your statement is a pitiful way to not accept it….
Thank you for sharing.
How would you explain the gay? That it just feels SOOOO good to be the brunt of nasty jokes, to be bullied, to be fired, to be kicked out of our houses, to be threatened, to be attacked, to be murdered, that we are too weak to say no to teh gay?
Other than being the “brunt of nasty jokes” everything else that you claim would be illegal. If you are kicked out of your house for being a homosexual, you could bring legal charges, just like anyone else. Just like anyone else, all your other examples are also illegal.
More drama looking for sympathy.
When was the last time you were attacked for who you love?
Oh does that make it worse, rather than for your money or the color of your skin?
All I’m saying is that we already have laws to protect everyone, and the items he listed are illegal for all. They don’t need any special protection laws, we just have to enforce what we have. It’s not like they are spotted owls that we are trying to preserve.
OSOK when someone is physically harmed because of the color of their skin, the shape of their eyes, etc…and for no other reason that is a hate crime.
When Charlie Howard was taunted and pitched into the Kenduskeag Stream despite his repeated pleas that he could “not swim” and drowned because he was gay and for no other reason. That is a hate crime.
When a black person is beaten, strung up and left to die just because of the color of their skin. That is a hate crime.
Yes, the killing of another human being is a crime. But when that crime is committed simple because of something they cannot change, that qualifies for “special” treatment withing the criminal justice system.
Ok JD, so then why is it not a hate crime if it’s a white woman? She can’t help it that she’s a woman. What if it’s a wealthy looking person in their Mercedes, that “looks” like a good mark to rob because they appear to have money? This “hate” crime is a bunch of BS. A crime is a crime, and it’s certainly no more tragic if it’s a homosexual or a black person.
With your reasoning, you’d get 15 years for killing a middle class white male, but it would be worth 25 years if it’s a homosexual. BS.
When was the last time a white woman was attacked and killed just because she was white and a woman and for no other reason?
I used to think the same way as you until I started reading and learning about what constitutes a hate crime.
Because she is singled out because she is an easy target? Is that different than being singled out because they are homosexual? Crime is crime, and it’s no worse no matter who it’s directed to.You are never going to make me believe that it’s any worse for a white, black, or homosexual. Some may squeal louder and cry that it’s hate crime, but the husband and family of a woman who’s been attacked may feel differently.
OSOK…of course she was picked out because she was an easy target. Do you think a criminal is going to pick out someone that looks like Sgt. Tank?
And while you don’t want to admit it, there is a difference between car jacking (why is car jacking a “special” classification of a crime? Isn’t it theft or armed robbery?) a white woman’s Mercedes and calling someone a “f–” or “n—–” or “k—” and killing them. The first one is the taking of property and everyone is equal in that. The other is based on the color of their skin, where they are from or their sexual orientation and nothing else.
We can go on like this all day.
Why is it a worse offense to kill a homosexual than a white woman or anyone else for that matter? I was not comparing a car jacking to a murder, as you implied. Crime for crime, they don’t need any type of special protection, anymore than you or I do. We have laws against crime no matter who it’s directed at. There are people who hate women but it’s not classified as a hate crime.
I absolutely despise punks. So if I drill one that breaks into my home and threatens me, and it’s clearly self defense, and when the cops get there I state that I hate punks, is it a hate crime? Or is it only a hate crime if it’s a homosexual punk?
It IS a crime if it is a white woman. IF she is attacked BECAUSE she is white or a woman it is a hate crime. You really don’t know much and need to do some research.
All you are saying? Be honest.. you have been saying all kinds of anti-gay marriage statements and now you want people to believe you are ONLY commenting on hate crime legislation? Don’t lie, it is in the Bible!
Oh no, I definitely don’t support homosexual marriage, and it certainly has nothing to do with a fairy tale like bible. The comment was originally to someone concerned about their bromance.
So your anti-gay stance isn’t religious? Uhm, I sense a little crazy going on with OSOKRecon.
I feel your pain.
What!??! That stuff is illegal?? Wha…..? Well, then I guess it just never happens anymore!!! I’m really glad to know that the simple fact that something is illegal makes it so that the act simply never happens anymore. I guess there’s no more murder, rape, theft, speeding, extortion, assault & battery, etc. What a wonderful place we live in!
One question, can a minor bring legal charges against his parents for kicking him out?
Just saying, you don’t need anymore protection than anyone else. The items you listed are illegal to do you or anyone else. What do you want a special law that makes it even more illegal to do it to a homosexual?
This was not an argument about hate crime laws, this was an argument that gay people actually choose to be gay.
Peace & Love to all and to all a good fight. 357FoReVeR
God, Guns & Guts made Americs Free & We’ll Fight To Keep All Three !
Are you being dense on purpose? It is not illegal. Please show us the law.
It is not illegal because we are not protected in many states.
So you need “special” protection, more so than other people?
NO just to be included. I think all people should be protected from being harassed. I dont want anything special.
Oh, I didn’t know that you aren’t already included. So it’s against the law to harass a heterosexual, but it’s OK to harass a homosexual? Is that what the laws states? Anything more than same law that protects the rest of us is special protection, and you don’t need it.
“THEY” Demand to be added to the Endangered Species List,,, note the following that desperately NEED OUR $$$$,,, but the poor things don’t have a Voice…
WHO WILL BE THEIR VOICE !!! HELLO?!??!? Whales, Spotted Owls,Ozark Hellbender, Loggerhead shrike, A shovel-headed leafhopper
But, sad to say, we just want what makes ” You FEEL Good !!!
How Cold and Insensitive your type has Become…..
Your Rights….. BAH HUMBUG !!! ;</
Just because its illegal doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. Duh.
Well duh, all crime is illegal, and all crime still happens. I’m sure there is harassment, muggings, and murders, but it’s no worse if it’s a homosexual than anyone else. You aren’t that special.
In some states, it’s illegal to discriminate, but a majority still allow anti-Gay persecution.
BS.
Actually, there are no housing protections for LGBT people in most states, also no employment protections. As for being attacked, many schools have turned a blind eye because the victims were gay, or blamed the victims for being different and supposedly asking for it.
Oh I see…it’s not against the law to kick a homosexual out of their apartment because they’re homosexual? Schools have not turned a blind eye, if anything they have gone overboard. Sorry, but when I see a mom with three children murdered (not a hate crime) it is just as tragic as when something happens to a homosexual (is a hate crime).
It is quite a bit easier for gay people today but ONLY because many, many gay people and their friends and family fought for it. What protections that do exist didn’t just pop out of thin air.
We all have hardships now don’t we?
Well Tom at least you can back yourself up instead of running your mouth like others (outdoorman)
You’re the only one running his mouth. I looked at the studies Tom posted. The only thing proven is how the gay’s are using animal based behavior to support their own actions. See you at the polls.
No outdoorman you would be the one “running your mouth”
From the links Tom Harvell posted
Study #1 -Biological versus nonbiological older brothers and men’s sexual orientation.
Abstract – The most consistent biodemographic correlate of sexual orientation in men is the number of older brothers (fraternal birth order). The mechanism underlying this effect remains unknown. In this article, I provide a direct test pitting prenatal against postnatal (e.g., social/rearing) mechanisms. Four samples of homosexual and heterosexual men (total n = 944), including one sample of men raised in nonbiological and blended families (e.g., raised with half- or step-siblings or as adoptees) were studied. Only biological older brothers, and not any other sibling characteristic, including nonbiological older brothers, predicted men’s sexual orientation, regardless of the amount of time reared with these siblings. These results strongly suggest a prenatal origin to the fraternal birth-order effect. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16807297
Study #2 – A genetic study of male sexual orientation.
Abstract – Homosexual male probands with monozygotic cotwins, dizygotic cotwins, or adoptive brothers were recruited using homophile publications. Sexual orientation of relatives was assessed either by asking relatives directly, or when this was
impossible, asking the probands. Of the relatives whose sexual
orientation could be rated, 52% (29/56) of monozygotic cotwins, 22% (12/54) of dizygotic cotwins, and 11% (6/57) of adoptive brothers were homosexual. Heritabilities were substantial under a wide range of assumptions about the population base rate of homosexuality and ascertainment bias. However, the rate of homosexuality among nontwin biological siblings, as reported by probands, 9.2% (13/142), was significantly lower than would be predicted by a simple genetic hypothesis and other published reports. A proband’s self-reported history of childhood gender non-conformity did not predict homosexuality in relatives in any of the three subsamples. Thus, childhood gender nonconformity does not appear to be an indicator of genetic loading for homosexuality. Cotwins from concordant monozygotic pairs were very similar for childhood gender nonconformity. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1845227
So two of the three studies posted by Tom Harvell were studies about HUMAN homosexuality.
So, you just don’t disapprove of gay marriage your actually full of hate? You live a very sad life when you take the time to hate someone for living a life that has nothing to do with you.
Two of the studies speak to the genetic components in humans. The third speaks agains the very silly “unnatural” argument. Stop being disingenuous I am sure your smart enough to understand that.

Sigh….
Fine, then don’t accept that gays are born that way, but it doesn’t matter, in a free country, everyone should be able to do what they want as long as it doesn’t prevent others from doing what they want. Now explain how having a gay couple live next door to you prevents you from living your life as you would if they were a straight couple? You cannot count on that hypothetical straight couple being your friends, they could be a different religion from you and want nothing to do with you, so if you had gay neighbors, would that be any worse?
Hopefully this time the wording of the referendum will be easy to understand.
It seems like it is, it also states that Churches are not going to be ”forced” into performing the marriages. And they certainly shouldn’t be! Separation of state and church. Yes to allow gay marriage. No to not allow gay marriages.
Whats next, marrying yourself if you want to remain single?
Voting rights for women? What’s next — voting rights for pets?
My cat still wants to marry her favorite chair. And her laser mouse.
My dog suddenly developed legible handwriting and grammar skills just to fill out a marriage license. A miracle!
Animals (ei: dogs, cats) cannot voice, not make cognitive decisions – hence, they do not have the right to vote. Nor do they make money (other than hollywood dogs). We might make those ”gays” pay taxes!
Probably not, since such nonsense absurdity has not followed in any other country or US state where gay marriage has been around for many years.
I would like to know where they conducted this poll….in Portland and surrounding area? Is so, they need to conduct one up in the real Maine
From the Press Release
“IF YOU HAVE BASIC METHODOLOGICAL QUESTIONS, PLEASE E-MAIL
information@publicpolicypolling.com, OR CONSULT THE FINAL PARAGRAPH OF THE PRESS RELEASE”
They called the Bangor area as well. That I know for a fact.
All of Maine is the “real” Maine, no matter what anyone says. There are differences between North and South, East and West, but we’re all Mainers who live in real Maine.
Yes except some of them Mainers would rather join New Hampshire from Augusta South there was an article about it here a few months ago.Probebly the same bunch that’s been pushing for Northern Maine to become a National park for the last 50 or so years.(Quimby’s kind)To bad they can’t just worry about their congrete jungles rather then force other’s to live the way they think we should.Although if it happened and we joined Canada maybe then we wouldn’t have had a Canadian destroy the mill’s and destabalize the area TY free trade act.
But since all of Canada allows the gays to marry, then you’d have to be contending with that!!!
I’d like you to know, though, that there are many gay men and women who live in the rural parts of the country (including Maine) and they live in those areas because they love them. The same reason why anyone lives in those parts of the country. Gay people aren’t all about cities and nightlife and clubs and shopping. Not even all about antiques.
Us Northern folk have been watching them crazy Canadian Gays getting married for over 10 years now, we’re used to it up here.
Concrete jungle? Seriously? Have you been to a city before? Some folks from N. Maine are so paranoid. They tell everyone what Southern Mainers think of the north (at least in their minds) then they all nod their heads and tell their neighbors made up stories of those people from Portland. I guess everyone needs an enemy to blame their problems on. YOu must really hate gay, Southern Mainers!
I love these biased articles that try to convince people to give in and go against there already formed opinions. Biased media, biased polls wish they could just post true facts!
“Biased articles”…”Biased Polls”??? Care to elaborate???
No mention of who paid for the polling. No mention of who formed the polling company and the major users of this polling company. Some may not know this information. Slightly skewed Dem with a margin of error of 2.8 percent I can live with that, but 23 percent unenrolled that’s high?
Here you go…drop them and line and ask.
IF YOU HAVE BASIC METHODOLOGICAL QUESTIONS, PLEASE E-MAIL
information@publicpolicypolling.com, OR CONSULT THE FINAL PARAGRAPH OF THE PRESS RELEASE
I can! I can!!
He’s referring to articles that show tolerance and respect of teh gay. Those are biased. Those articles that “tell it like it is” that teh gay is bad and evil-that’s truthful reporting.
I’m glad you love them and that you’ll be voting to allow me to marry my man. Thank you!!! I’ll save you a piece of cake!
Perhaps you could start a movement to ban media too since it doesn’t fit your cookie-cutter views of the world. Then you could have a truly free America! Oh the irony of some of these posters…
I don’t think that many true opponents to gay marriage are changing their minds. It’s the guy or gal that sits in the break room at work and has been afraid to voice their real feelings of fairness on the issue. “Coming out” in many cases involves the straight person admitting to themselves and others about how they really feel on the issue and then voting that way.
Just plain spin. We will vote it down again and again. Gay marriage is not the way Maine should be. Gays should be so far back in their closets they are finding Christmas presents.
How understanding and tolerant of you. Maybe we should look in your closet to see what we find about you.
took the words right out of my mouth jd
How sweet. My marriage to my man WILL be like a Christmas present! Thanks for the well wishes!!!
MUAH!!!
You do realize that voting it down doesn’t make them go away. They’re still going to be everywhere regardless.
What about people incarcerated?
What about heterosexual couples that are incarcerated?
Works fine as far as I know.
Incarcerated people already are able to exercise their right to marry, however just not a person of the same sex if that’s the person he or she loves.
Just what do you think these incarcerated persons will do. They will make a mockery of your perceived right to marriage. Remember they will do just about everything and anything in prison just to pass the time.
What? They already marry.
Also, some married men and women on the outside already do things that make this right a mockery, as you put it.
I don’t understand your point.
You are making less and less sense the more you post. Do you not see the irony that a mass murderer in jail has the right to marry (and has before) while tax paying, law abiding American citizens who are gay do not?
Go take a phsycholosist in collage ( not on line either ) an see what they say my daughter did an yes they are born that way .
What is a “phsycholosist”? Is that a mix between a psychologist and a physiologist? And why can we only find them in a collage? I thought I may check a college to find one, but it appears as though my toddler can show me a “phsycholosist” on the collage she made last night.
I understand this is probably a difficult topic for many readers. I have talked to many people about what they believe and it seems like I keep hearing the same reasons why it should NOT be legal. I just thought I might voice my opinion why it should be.
The bible says that it is sinful and wrong.
I am not going to say that it’s not. There are many verses in the bible about the matter. People can make their own decisions on if they think it is sinful or not. But just because someone thinks another’s actions are sinful does not mean they can tell them what to do. Also something to think about, if homosexuality is so wrong then why does Jesus not speak about it? Or why is it not a commandment?
The truth of the mater is that all people, should have all the same rights.
By denying homosexuals the right to marry, you take away their humanity. This is no different then it was for blacks durring the civil rights movement. Never mind if you think it is wrong or not that is not the point. We are all human and should all have the same rights.
I really don’t think anyone can make a valid argument about that statement. If you do, then you are just admitting that you think homosexuals are less of a person and that’s just plain evil.
This is great-thank you.
But as we know, there are a few on here today and who have been on here in the past who would rather see us disappear or “crawl into a hole and die” and aren’t ashamed to say it. On here, anyway, where their name isn’t known.
30 States have denied homosexuals marriages and the Federal Government doesn’t recognize homosexuals marriages. How dare you compare this to the black civil rights movement. Blacks in this country where mistreated for years just because of the color of their skin not their sexual orientation. Your sexual preference is your personal choice and when you make a choice in life you have to live with it. According to you no one can make a “Valid” argument against homosexuality and if you do your EVIL. WOW!! Can’t argue with that.
Yeah, 30 states over 15 years. A lot has changed over these past 15 years, including allowing gay men and women to serve their country without fear.
DOMA will be crumbling soon.
Three more state legislatures have approved it with two governors signing the bill.
New Hampshire republicans can’t even get enough people interested in reversing their law.
Which reminds me, has anything bad happened in the states that allow it over these past 8 years?
Jimbob – I’m not sure I follow your argument. For a period of time slavery was legal in a number of states and allowed by the Federal government. Did this make it morally right?
Further, although it may be possible that it is a preference as you state, I find it hard to believe that individuals would choose to be homosexual due to the social stigmas and mistreatment that often comes along with that. However, I don’t believe one can state it is indeed a choice unless one has personal knowledge – this is the reason why intent is nearly impossible to prove.
So how can you be so sure that it is indeed a choice?
No comparison to slavery that’s someone trying to glorify their views. 40 year marriage ends because one perceives that they are now homosexual. Two women or men in prison engaged in homosexual activity. These are choices made by these people. I don’t know their intent and don’t care.
Like your choice to believe in a certain religion? We legally protect choices all the time.
You are correct. Leaving a marriage is a choice. Being miserable in the marriage or being forced to marry heterosexually because you think that you have to settle is not. I was married to a man for 10 years. I have three beautiful children. When I told him, well after the divorce, that I was gay he said “thank God, i thought it was me”. I wasnt giving him what he needed emotionally , physically, or spiritually because I wasnt capable of doing so.
A comparison doesn’t mean things are identical. Obviously.
Gays have been subjected to persecution, discrimination, witch hunts, had their histories white washed, etc. We haven’t exactly historically and presently been very kind to them as a group of people.
So were the Native Americans, Blacks but none of this was because of their sexual preference. I’ve never seen gay only bathrooms or a gay reservation. A homosexual can walk into a room and I wouldn’t know their homosexual unless they told me or their behavior might lead me to think that because of some perceived thought that I had. So today that persons thinks their homosexual, but then after a lot of thought that person decides their not a homosexual. So how can you make a law on someones thoughts? Society in this country is decaying and adding this law is just going to add to the decay.
Like I said, a comparison isn’t the same as saying something is identical. Homosexuality isn’t a thought, no court has identified it as such and that’s what we’re talking about now, legal rights. The law determines gays to be a class or group of people. They’ve historically been discriminated against and persecuted — that’s fact. Claiming they’re a decay on society is hateful — fact.
Civil marriage as it stands today is a law based on someone’s thoughts, though– how many people get married only to change their mind a short while later? There is no test to show whether a couple loves each other “enough” to make a marriage work, we take their word for their commitment.
Restricting this from same sex couples is wrong, and unconstitutional.
You’re making valid points until you say “So today that persons thinks their homosexual, but then after a lot of thought that person decides their not a homosexual. So how can you make a law on someones thoughts?”
That’s not how it works. True, there might be someone who wants to “experiment” and there might be people who can’t handle the pressure when they try to be their true selves, but for most everyone, they don’t just think they are one way and they just think they’re another.
You are right, of course, that there isn’t overt segregation of gay people because some gay people are able to hide it or just don’t act in the stereotypical way. But is that all there is to discrimination? I can tell you that when some people have found out that I’m gay, I have experienced a definite change in attitude, sometimes with threats. On of our points is that we shouldn’t have to hide who we are. And yes, there are some flamboyant gay men and some masculine gay women, but so what? There are outrageous straight people too.
The pain I feel during this vote and the vote in 2009 is real. I pray and thank God my children are heterosexual. I am not. I sometimes fear for my safety. I am scared. This is not a choice or I would choose no.
Perhaps we should end laws that provide “special rights” to Christians since we can’t really tell if they are Christian…
So were the Native Americans, Blacks but none of this was
because of their Christianity. I’ve never seen Christian only bathrooms or a Christian reservation. A Christian can walk into a room and I wouldn’t know their Christian unless they told me or their behavior might lead me to think that because of some perceived thought that I had. So today that persons thinks their Christian, but then after a lot of
thought that person decides their not a Christian. So how can you make a law on someones thoughts? Society in this country is decaying and adding this law is just going to add to the decay.
jimbobhol when did you decide what your sexual preference was?By the way, the SCOTUS has ruled that marriage is a civil right and affirmed that ruling in Loving v. Virginia in 1967.
“Your sexual preference is your personal choice and when you make a choice in life you have to live with it.” Jimbobhol
Are you kidding me? You really think that people get to choose what sex they are attracted to? You know that is nonsense.
I said you can’t make an argument about this statement:
“We are all human and should all have the same rights”
I know that my body doesn’t react the same way when I look at Halle Berry as it does when I look at Fred Berry. Ha! Just kidding, I mean, Channing Tatum. Does one choose to have one’s body, heart, and mind react in a particular way?
Does anyone even remember Fred Berry? RIP, Rerun.
Agreed. They want to be compared to blacks because they also want the minority status. If your employer fired you, you couldn’t impersonate a black man and sue him for discrimination. However; you could impersonate a homosexual and sue him for discrimination. There should be no special privileges or rights for behavior.
Yeah, there are so many straight guys who can’t wait to act gay to keep their jobs. It is hard to take such statements serious.
Serious? Look around you at the type of people there are these days. Everyone has an angle they are working….don’t they? You do too.
To suggest that any new equal rights movements are on hold until someone is treated as horribly as black people were is a ridiculous statement. It is an ANALOGY not an exact comparison. The fact that anti-gay rights folks are suddenly so protective of the black Civil Rights movement is beyond laughable. And it is not a choice. How would you know it is a choice if you haven’t had to make the choice? You wouldn’t.
So much wrong with your post!
I am one of the fence sitters. And probably will be until November.
I believe gay people are born not raised or schooled. If you are gay you are gay.
I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman. I go so far to say that to be married you need to be married in a church.
I also have gay friends who are a couple who truelly love each other. But even with a civil union they would have none of the benefits and guarantees that a hetrosexual couple have. This is wrong. They have the same love and committment as a hetrosexual couple and should have the same rights in the name of the law.
I do not know but what is good for the goose is good for the gander. But which is the goose and which is the gander?
Sure, if you want, marriage should be in a church – but that marriage only applies to your personal standing and your standing within said church. There are also congregations that are willing to perform same-sex marriages. For anything else, however, whether it be legally or socially, you are recognizing a certificate given by your government.
I appreciate it when people are able to discuss this issue in this manner.
Thank you for this thoughtful comment.
well in this case it would be gander on gander and goose on goose wouldn’t it?
If you are religious (I assume you are because of the church) then pray on it. Is there an answer that you would be comfortable telling both your gay friends an your pastor?
I love how polls are slanted. What were the demographics in this poll? Registered D’s R’s etc
PPP poll last year showed a 43 percent approval rating for the Gov unchanged from previous polls by PPP. So this year they poll with a 41 percent approval rating, but with a slightly skewed poll towards Dems. HMMMM
Public Policy Polling is an American Democratic Party-affiliated polling firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina. PPP was founded in 2001 by businessman and Democratic pollster Dean Debnam, the firm’s current president and chief executive officer. You have been enlightened.
So, naturally they must either call only the liberal areas or they falsify data. AMAZING they haven’t been caught these past 11 years…
43 percent where Dems that where called. 320,000 Dems in this state 258,000 Reps with a total of 993,748 that means 400,000 registered as other I would say it’s skewed
Source for your numbers
The only thing I have against this article isn’t the fact that we are having to deal with this again, but the fact that the BDN states the results were “slightly skewed ” to the Democrat side with 43 percent democrat 34 percent Republican, and 23 percent unenrolled. I’d say the numbers are way more than skewed. I’d say the whole article is skewed. I’d also say we don’t need any more social programming. Just let people decide for themselves.
Let me remind everyone that this same poll shows that Angus King would beat both Chellie Pingree and Charlie Summers.
Holy Cow!!!! Wow!!!
Did God tell you this?
yes He did
21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Hang on everyone, here we go again.
And that was in MAINE??? I had no idea!!!
You cannot quote portions of the Bible without including the pedophilia, rape, incest, and murder. Please dont choose what you see as Gods words.
Really? You know all the gays in the world? And you know the sexuality of everyone with whom you’re acquainted?
And, more importantly, are all the straight people you know moral?
Yahoo!
How did you find the time to meet all of them? That’s incredible!
There is nothing immoral about wanting to share your life with another person in love and commitment.
Ahh yes, here is the inevitable request that half of Maine move away because you don’t agree with them on the issue of gay marriage.
yeah, act like a tree and leave, a bannana and split, like a hockey player and get the puck out of here
And that was about as funny as a submarine with a screen door.
PPP poll last year showed a 43 percent approval rating for the Gov unchanged from previous poll that same year. Now a 41 percent approval rating with a “slightly’ skewed poll to the Dems. That’s something how polls work.
You should learn how polls work. It specifically says a 2.8% margin of error. And 2% movement in one year is not that great.
Bout time!
Again with this. Marriage is the joining of a man and a woman. If two males wish to be united that’s great but it also is not marriage. Why is it necessary to steal a word that already has a definition? If they wish to be together be they man man woman woman or whatever then more power to them. Call it something else..
We are not asking for a name, we are asking for equal treatment by our government, and the term for the license is civil marriage.
Eliminating civil marriage altogether and giving everyone civil unions would be fine too, but needlessly expensive to our government.
It’s about the legal rights and protections that are associated with and can’t be separated from civil marriage.
kinda sounds like “its my ball and you cant play with it” –“marriage is MY word and you can’t use it”
Before gay people wanted to marry, no one really cared about protecting marriage. At least not enough to put money and time in to it. But then the gays wanted in. Now marriage is suddenly so important? Where is the outrage and proposed legislation to ban (or at least severely restrict) divorce? Or adultery? It wouldn’t be hard to write the law and there is a long, long tradition of banning divorce. Jesus himself said, NO DIVORCE.
Can you not see why gay folks are suspicious of this sudden desire to “protect” marriage. Smells as fishy as the piers in Portland.
The definition of marriage changed once in 1967 and then again in 2003.
that is such a bigot thing to say
I think a lot of people have a hard time voting for something that they believe as morally wrong. By allowing gays to marry you are not saying that you like it or agree with it, but you acknowledge that homosexuals deserve the same rights and freedoms as you do.
Is there professional “help” to have a “normal” life? And if they were gay, it would somehow be your fault?
And by ‘professional help’ you mean pay somebody with your value and religious system to try to convince your son that that he’s not gay. It would be equally effective for him to pay somebody to convince you that your religious views are wrong. You, and your belief system is no better than anyone else’s. Really.

Homosexuality is found in over 1,500 species. Homophobia is found in only one. Which one seems UNNATURAL now?
But the animals haven’t been proven to be aware that they are mating with the same gender. It could be cases of mistaking gender. Animals ain’t always that bright. However, I am for gay marriage.
Pretty sure Bonobo Apes are very aware of what they’re doing, since it seems to be a very social thing and not just for procreation.
http://www.nature.com/srep/2012/120301/srep00291/full/srep00291.html
Can you not see that same-sex marriage nationwide is inevitable? The GLBT rights movement has made more progress in a very short time than any other civil rights movement in American history. In 2003 private sexual behavior among consenting same-sex adult couples was still illegal in some states until such sodomy laws were stuck down by Lawrence v. Texas. The very next year Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriage. More states are added to that list every year. There will be more states with marriage equality next year, and even more after that, until it is recognized nationally, probably with a Supreme Court ruling or federal change. Openly gay and lesbian individuals may now serve in the military. Our president publicly endorses GLBT rights and he, along with the DOJ, has refused to defend DOMA in court. Prop 8 is already in federal court. Polls show a majority of Americans now support marriage equality. Obama even made a presidential proclamation of the month of June as GLBT Pride Month. I’m confident that in his second term, Obama will fully support same-sex marriage. Up until 2005, Mainers could be fired from their job, refused credit, housing, education, and public accommodation because of their sexual orientation. It took 4 separate voting periods, beginning in the 1980’s, to finally get a majority of Mainers to vote against this kind of discrimination, but in 2005 55% of Maine voters rejected discrimination in the State of Maine. I don’t think we’ll need 4 tries to win marriage equality in Maine.
I don’t know why this threatens anyone. Just because same-sex couples get the right to marry one another, doesn’t mean that opposite sex couples lose anything. The furtherance of civil rights does not diminish those already existing for others. Same-sex marriage will have no effect on heterosexual marriages. We all have everything to gain by a more equal and just society. The only reason this issue keeps coming up is because some people keep opposing it. Those in favor of marriage equality would like to just have equal rights and move on to issues that do affect us all, such as unemployment and the current state of the economy. If same-sex couples are able to obtain the improved financial security and family stability associated with civil marriage, and the fundamentalist churches and others stop spending millions on fighting equality, we could all do a lot more, working together, to solve our shared problems.
“Can you not see that same-sex marriage nationwide is inevitable?”
Some people like to jump of high Bridges without a safety harness too, does that make “IT” normal?!?
Ok… let’s play the Analogy Game! Yeah!! “Some people like to pick and choose which parts of the Bible they would like to enforce (and it almost never includes the parts that apply directly to them). OK, your turn…
Jesus dealt with Sin, He did not approve of homosexuality.
Through the Holy Spirit Inspired writings in the NT, He (Jesus/God) Dealt specifically with this issue thru the writings of the Apostle Paul in the book of Romans.
I’m just passing on the info, & attempting to be as rational and reasonable as possible.
I attempt at times to appear a little over the top so as to be able to evaluate others responses thru absured & different points that do not seem logical,,, just my way of provoking thot,,,OK?
No harm, no foul.
No Not ok. It is manipulative and tries to make others feel small. You quote Christ but you certainly dont act like Him. He blessed all people. You make fun and spread hatred.
“Jesus….did not approve of homosexuality”?
Can you provide one quote where Jesus said anything about homosexuality?
Jesus Is God/Holy Spirit (the Trinity God head) + the whole Holy King James Bible = HIS Word !
Pretty cut and dried as far as that goes.
If you have any problems with these truths, His Holy Word, Talk to HIM about them, He will listen, but You probably won’t like His answer,,
HOMOSEXUALITY is a Sin against Him !
My mind has not changed nor will it ever change…I believe marriage is between
a man and a woman…
And thats ok really. As long as you are kind to everyone else. You, just like I have a right to our own beliefs. We dont have a right to be cruel. I respect you and request that you respect me and my family. THAT is waht will make a strong country.
I would like you to watch this video though.
front.moveon.org
Do not misunderstand my post, I do not condone what you people are doing “nor”
will I watch any of your videos…I respect other people but what the gay
community does sickens me…Do not push your beliefs on me and by throwing a
video at me to watch is pushing your beliefs on me…Totally unacceptable…
Ok then sorry. i will continue to be civil to you even though you choose no to be civil to me. The ‘gay community’ goes to school, works, pays taxes, etc. Just because you cant envision us having intercourse and it sickens you doesnt make it right to not give us rights. I might htink things you do in the bedroom are gross.
ps. i would have watched your video. i am open minded and want what is best for society. I vote for people whoa re against gay marriage because they are what is best for society. I research what is good for society I dont just all back on what I think is right because i am not the all knowing. That is the difference between us. Bless you. and I will pray for your open mind regardless if you change it or not you may still learn something. It might be for us or against us but at least it will be informed.
Well, personally I think it is totally unacceptable to use such irrational hatred as justification to stand against the civil rights of another Maine citizen.
The why is it “OK” for you to “push your beliefs on” others?
why is it “OK” for you to “push your beliefs on” others?
DITTO …dude?
I doubt seriously you know what the gay community is doing. It is probably your own imagination that sickens you and now you are blaming it on someone else. Try seeing a doctor.
Do not copy and paste…..Not allowed !
don’t watch it,,,, dogs ?!?!?
I won’t rest until my kindergartner is taught that he or she can marry whatever he or she wants and until there are gay ice cream stands with various gay-sounding flavors and gay parts of town to visit.
Very mature posts “Rachel”
None of that has anything to do with civil marriage for same sex couples, though.
Why isnt this happening in the 26 states and countries where SSM has been legal for years.
DHHS is interested in child dis-behavioral issues.
I won’t rest until Bar Harbor is the next Provincetown!!!
The crime rate in P town is so much lower than Bar Harbor. Jus sayin
That’s the same thing I noticed about most religious zealots. Weird.
Last summer I was gay at a frat party and I noticed that the next day, people were treating me differently and giving me dirty looks. I totally know what it’s like.
As a society, America has begun to move away from the Constitution as a steadfast document of beliefs guided by Nature’s God and the Laws of Nature towards an evolving canvas of politically correct uncertainties. No matter that the courts have ruled to allow homosexuals the right to indulge “in private” in acts of sexual congress, the fact remains that the conduct is viewed — constitutionally, morally and religiously — as unnatural. To presume that marriage is a logical extension and does not carry a penalty is to ignore the wisdom of the Founding Fathers who unanimously viewed sodomy as a behavior that would undermine and erode the moral foundation of civilization. A glimpse of what is transpiring in America today is enough to affirm their convictions.
“As a society, America has begun to move away from the Constitution as a steadfast document of beliefs guided by Nature’s God and the Laws of Nature towards an evolving canvas of politically correct uncertainties.”
Question #1 – When were the first changes to the U.S. Constitution made?
Question #2 – Where in the U.S. Constitution will I find references to “beliefs guided by Nature’s God”?
Question #3 – How many times are the words Lord, God, Supreme Being mentioned in the U.S. Constitution?
~~~~~
“No matter that the courts have ruled to allow homosexuals the right to indulge “in private” in acts of sexual congress, the fact remains that the conduct is viewed — constitutionally, morally and religiously — as unnatural.”
Question #4 – Where in the U.S. Constitution will I find the word “marriage” defined?
Question #5 – Where in the U.S. Constitution will I find homosexuality “viewed…as unnatural”?
To presume that marriage is a logical extension and does not carry a penalty is to ignore the wisdom of the Founding Fathers who unanimously viewed sodomy as a behavior that would undermine and erode the moral foundation of civilization.”
Question #6 – What writings of the Founding Fathers provide you with knowledge that they “unanimously viewed sodomy as a behavior that would undermine and erode the moral foundation of civilization”?
~~~~~
“A glimpse of what is transpiring in America today is enough to affirm their convictions.”
No, a glimpse of what is transpiring in America today shows us why the Founding Fathers provided us with three branches of government, provided a Supreme Court to settle matters of law, provided a mechanism to petition Congress for redress of grievances, and provided a mechanism to amend the U.S. Constitution.
Maybe you would do well to actually read the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights before you post inaccurate information that isn’t supported by history.
jd2008jd, I am really tired of you bringing facts into this argument. Why are you so intolerant of other peoples buffoonery?
Our Constitution says the exact opposite, in fact– our 14th Amendment demands our government extend protections equally.
We are not asking for civil marriage so we can have sex. We are asking for civil marriage so we can protect the lives we have built together, our families.
As a gay woman I do not engage in sodomy. What is your reason that I cant marry?
It sounds as if this poll was slightly skewed toward democrats, and is therefore probably an inaccurate depiction of where Mainers are on this issue at this time. Also, many people who are against gay marriage are not likely to reveal their true opinions to a pollster, given the intolerant nature of many gay marriage advocates toward those who oppose it.
It’s a real shame that gay marriage advocates aren’t more tolerant of the intolerance of others.
The poll was automated-there was not a live person asking the questions. The tone was neutral and did not favor any candidate or issue. The person being asked the question was not asked for a name nor was asked to say anything that would be recorded. There’d be no way to know who was answering the question, so there shouldn’t have been any hesitation when answering the questions.
This poll also showed that Independent King would beat Democrat Pingree in a contest.
If gay people can marry, what about 3 people. Or someone having two wives.
SCOTUS has ruled that multiple wives are not a civil right. Sorry but you will just need to start your own petition drive to put that question on the ballot as the one we will vote on in November will not help you.
If women are allowed to vote, what about children or animals?
If you can’t argue against gay marriage without bringing in polygamy, you have no argument against gay marriage.
Not the issue.
When those are the issues, then let’s address them then.
I keep telling my cat that even when I can marry my partner, she still won’t be able to marry her chair. Just a different issue.
Why hasnt this been a problem in the places where SSM has been legal for over 10 years?
GLBT are asking for the same rights as straight couples. Two people of opposite gender can marry. Three people of any gender cannot. So how does marriage for GLBT suggest that three or more people should be allowed to marry? You are just using a scare tactic because you know your primary argument (I am offended!) won’t work.
I have 2 friends who were gay. They clearly told me IT WAS A CHOICE!!! They are both restored and live a NORMAL life. There is NO gay gene. Data suggests, lol. How pathetic. The poll was flawed and most people were most likely from Southern Maine. The family as we know it is breaking down and this is a symptom. It is happening just like every other world power who went down.God help us.
http://townhall.com/columnists/johnhawkins/2012/02/17/five_reasons_to_oppose_gay_marriage
Yeah, really sounds like you’re telling the truth. Your “friends.”
I have a half dozen friends who are gay and say it was never a choice. What is your point, except that anecdotal evidence is meaningless?
Why don’t your “friends” join the discussion and we will ask them.
Some of them do join in the discussion here from time to time. But if you’re going to take “waytoocool”‘s assertion at face value, why not mine?
Sounds like they were bisexual.
And I checked you “link”. Here are my responses to the “Five Reasons to Oppose Gay Marriage Reason”
1) Gay marriage is incompatible with Christianity (and for that matter, Islam & Judaism).
Being a Christian is a choice. Homosexuality isn’t.
Reason 2) Gay marriage will end up infringing on religious freedom.
Maine’s proposed law (just like the one back in 2009) exempts those religious institutions from performing SSM services if it violates church doctrine. People that operated business have no such protection and shouldn’t have. They offer a service to people and if they wish to discriminate against a class of people they should suffer the consequences.
Reason 3) Civil unions could confer every “right” that marriage does.
They “could” but they don’t.
Reason 4) Gay marriage may be where it starts, but it wouldn’t be where it ends.
Please site one state where gay marriage is legal where legislation has been introduced to legalize marriage between; brother and sister, the dead, man and dog, marrying children or marrying a tree or clay pot.
Reason 5) Marriage already has enough problems as it is without gay marriage
So why don’t you focus your time and energy on fixing those problems?
Well, I’m here to tell you that it is not a choice. It’s a choice to be who you are or to be who society says you should be.
Are you really saying that the poll is flawed because you don’t agree with the results? Do you know that it’s flawed?
For them it was a choice and I am so happy that they were able to be straight. it is hard being gay in Maine today. Some people make choices that are wrong for them. There is no gene for Autism and many other things people are born with it doesnt mean they dont exist.
Thank you for your input but you dont speak for my loving God.
I had two friends who could wave a magic wand and turn dirt into money! ANd you should believe me because I posted it here on the internet! Please….
a lot like heterosexuals in that way, eh?
“It looks like Maine will reverse its 2009 vote on gay marriage this fall,” said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. “That’s symbolic of the shift in public opinion that’s occurred on this issue over the last few years.”
There is an old saying that figures don’t lie, but that liars can figure so I wouldn’t put too much stock in this poll and start lining up at the license office yet.
The question itself is extremely confusing and never should have been approved to be on the ballot. At first glance one would think to vote yes thinking they are supporting religious freedom. Upon closer review you find that is not the case. I doubt that the entire 47 percent who were polled and responded yes truly understood the question and I’m pretty sure the pollster never took the time to explain it either.
What was wrong with the question, “Do you favor a law allowing Same-sex marriage in Maine?” Oh, wait, that would be too simple and might not pass.
I think the people of Maine will figure this scam out before Novmeber and the law will remain the same.
What is the scam? The question is clear that the issue is civil marriage, the marriage license that is issued by the state. It is clear that it has nothing to do with churches that don’t want to be involved in such marriages. How is that a scam?
Religious freedom is protected by our First Amendment. Churches are always free to turn away a couple whom they don’t want to marry in their church, regardless of reason.
The question is not extremely confusing, the question is very straightforward.
And let the law suits begin!
Can you name one instance in the U.S. where government of any kind forced a church to perform a marriage for anyone?
MountainMan the wording of the ballot question has NOT been finalized by the Secretary of States office.
The proposed ballot wording is: “Do you favor a law
allowing marriage licenses for same-sex couples, and that protects
religious freedom by ensuring that no religion or clergy be required to
perform such a marriage in violation of their religious beliefs?”
How is that question “confusing”? A Yes vote means you support SSM and a No vote means you don’t. It doesn’t get much easier than that.
Actually it does if we change the wording to: “Do you favor a law allwoing marriage licenses for same-sex couples?”
The religious portion is not going to work because if the law passes the first time someone is turned away they are going to sue claiming their civil rights have been violated.
The problem with eliminating the “religious” part is it would mean that the Catholic Church, Southern Baptist, Seventh Day, Church of Later Day Saints, etc… would be FORCED to perform SSM ceremonies which is against the basic tenets of their church and church doctrine.
By including an exemption to religious institutions it provides a legal shield from law suits. By including that wording it prevents the very events you describe.
Just like Catholic churches are forced to marry any couple who come knocking on the priests door. And rabbi’s are FORCED to marry those who don’t follow their faith. OH WAIT! They don’t! If you are smart enough to operate a computer you are smart enough to figure out that churches are never forced to marry anyone. Are you just lying to try scare people?
If the language exempting religious institutions were to be removed from the ballot question, then a SSM couple could request a Catholic religious marriage ceremony and when the church denied to perform it based on their religious doctrine the SSM couple could sue for discrimination. That is a fact.
Churches are not exempt from civil law suit and I don’t need a computer to figure that out or to know it.
I’ve worked at a church. They are protected from marrying anyone they don’t want to. Pastors can turn down people from their own denomination for any number of reasons. IF the pastor doesn’t feel they are a good fit for each other. If the pastor doesn’t feel the couple are church members in good standing. If the pastor has a golf vacation planned. Churches DO have a religious exemption. If not, then how do you explain that Catholics can say no to conducting a Jewish ceremony. Or a Baptist can turn down a Mormon? I suggest you go into a church with a very different denomination than yours and demand they marry you or you will sue!
I have no idea what your problem is. Are you for or against SSM? I have read your posts and they honestly conflict at times.
This is one of those times. The proposed ballot question which we will vote on in November includes language to protect religious institutions if the decide they will not perform a wedding ceremony for a same sex couple. That is a fact and is not a “scare tactic”.
Why you object to this language is lost on me. Why would you want to remove something that affords a legal protection which is not currently available in Maine law?
And while a church or minister, priest, rabbi, etc…can refuse to marry a couple based on lack of commitment to a church, etc…they cannot refuse to marry them based on the color of their skin. If they were to do this they would be sued for discrimination. There is NO protection in Maine law for discrimination based on the color of ones skin. And in the absence of the language in this proposed law there would be no protection for a church or minister, priest, rabbi, etc…if they refused to marry a couple based on their sexual orientation. And that’s a fact and not a scare tactic.
So are you for SSM or against SSM? And if you are for SSM why are you fighting about the words in the proposed ballot question?
I think it’s because he might have thought you were against it based on your post.
From what I have heard, the language of the bill concerning religious exemption is unnecessary because churches can discriminate in specific and narrowly defined cases. I can’t see that if a church is allowed to discriminate based on a person’s religion they wouldn’t be able to discriminate for any one of a number of other reasons that would be illegal anywhere else.
And, quite frankly, I don’t want it any other way. I wouldn’t want the government telling my church what to do-but it should stop at the doors of the church. Religious exemption shouldn’t apply to facilities that the churches rent to the general public and they shouldn’t apply to the ordinary citizen in his or her daily business.
So religious groups (and band wagon political junkies) get mad when a opt-out for churches doesn’t exist. And now you think it is propaganda because an opt-out does exist? So many excuses…
I am a gay woman. my daughters are raised with strong moral character. They volunteer in their community and are involved in their school activities. They get good grades and one ins attending college and doing very well. You are meeting the wrong homosexuals. They do not represent me.
What! No Easter Bunny, my kids better not see that or I’m going
to be mad at you.
I’m for gay marriage after married people don’t get big tax deductions
and people can’t use kids as a tax shelter anymore.
Please watch this video.
front.moveon.org
Why?
It shows why some people want equality.
Fair enough. I always wonder when people post video links with no explanation.
Sorry…hope you watch it though.
No reason to be sorry.
You would really do that to your child? Getting them counseling is one thing but do you know how many kids have killed themselves because of people like you. Besides, the APA and AMA and The association of Pediatricians has deemed that homosexuality is normal .You would have to goto a religious organization with an unlicensed counselor to get anyone to try to change the childs sexuality.
Anyone who is against gay marriage and then has the gall to say they have gay friends should go look up the word friend in the dictionary.
It will pass, because people are getting more educated by the second, and old MYTHS will fall away.
Since you are in the minority, why don’t you leave? I hear Afghanistan is anti-homosexual, maybe you should move there.
Maine has become a “Gay” Drug infested Welfare State. Wow… ain’t that something to be proud of!
Sorry you think that, brah.
This is incorrect. Maine typically leads the nation on extending equality. We allowed women to vote before our nation joined us, and we allowed interracial marriage almost 100 years before Loving v Virginia made it legal nationwide.
We will hopefully lead our nation as the first state to offer same sex marriage via popular vote this November!
AMEN !!!
“Amen”????? Are you a member of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, the creeps that try to disrupt the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq, little gun boy?
Hey! I’m willing to bet you file your taxes jointly. I’m willing to bet you take the tax credits that come with having dependent children. Gays can’t do that, despite raising a family the same way you do. So, yes, you are asking for “hand outs”. You’re just as bad as the welfare queens and anchor babies you complain about! ;-)
357magman Please do not respond to this man. He is spewing horrible hate and is fueled by our responses. He writes horrible things and then cuts and pastes them repeatedly. Please flag his comments when you see them.
TOLERANCE ,,,class, is the word of the Year, ’til Nov. voting time comes at least.
Big Brother is Watching, you Can’t HANDLE the TRUTH so you *FLAG* me out of the picture.
Deal with Reality, Stop the Hate & Get with the Program instead of sticking your Head in the “Sand”?!?!?
Peace & Love the Bible way,,, and don’t tear the pages out that you can’t handle !!!
This forum will be shut down soon anyway, so I’ll catch ya’ on the flip side,,,,Peace Out ;<)
When I get stressed out about something, I listen to the Moonlight Sonata, so soothing and nice way to get refocused,,, try it , you might like it. Peace & Love,,,, 357 FoReVeR ;<)
LOL my daughter can play it on the piano….You do know that you are a laughing stock right.
wow, taht is sssssoooooo sweet, thanks foe being so kinnd and sharing that wit me’ youare very kind and understanding ;<)
You’re really upset that your dirty 2009 anti-gay Hate Vote is going to be reversed by the voters, aren’t you, little gun boy? We all know anti-gays are NOT going to get away with committing criminal acts to THROW this next vote!
Circular argument to say that gay kids won’t have a normal life when you actively oppose them from having that life!
Perhaps you could try intelligent discourse, instead of childishly pasting the same incoherent diatribe 30+ times throughout the discussion?
Or just pout, that works too.
Deal with the facts, what I do is make a point any way possible, and your species just attack me personally,
You are NOT very Tolerant.
Practice what you spew .
If “any way possible” is limited to ctrl+c and ctrl+v, you need to read up on this issue some more.
Also, you mistake “responding to your attacks” as intolerance.
Tolerance does not equal….
“what I do is make a point any way possible”
“your species”
“Practice what you spew”
Flag football is the name of the game.
Anti-gay lies DO NOT become true when anti-gays post the same anti-gay lies again and again.
Someone knows how to use caps. Impressed. Not to much. Funny how
When will everybody realize that what makes all people the
same is so much more important than what makes us different. I just don’t
understand the bigots who discriminate against gays. As if homosexuals aren’t
human beings too. As if they’re not someone’s son, or daughter, or sister, or
brother, or father, or mother, or friend. All people want to live in peace, we
all feel love, we all want the best for our loved ones, we all have hopes and
dreams, we can all feel pain, we all want to follow our bliss, we all struggle,
we’re all just trying to get through life the best way we know how. How does
any of that change with the color of someone’s skin, or their physical
abilities, or what God they pray to, or what language they speak, or what their
sexual orientation is? If a man loves and wants to marry another man, or a
woman loves and wants to marry another woman, what is that to anyone else?
They’re not hurting anyone. Only a truly vicious, hateful, spiteful, selfish,
vile misanthrope would begrudge someone their love of someone else. People who
hate homosexuals should be ashamed of themselves. Those bigots deserve to live
in the shadows. They’re not fit to show their faces in decent society. And it
is patently unfair that gays and their families should suffer the devastating
effects of discrimination, while bigots and their loved ones go along
untouched. It’s past time that the bigots are made to pay for their
discrimination BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. Let the bigots and their loved ones
start suffering and maybe they’ll learn their lesson. Anyone coming into
contact with Brian Brown, other members of NOM, the members of
the Maine House or Senate that oppose equality, or their loved
ones, should take ANY ACTION POSSIBLE to make them pay a price.
Oh oh ,,, I’m beginning to Feel THREATENED !!!
Tolerance is the key in this Forum.
Don’t overlook…..BIG BRO’ !!! 8>(
Yes and you have demonstrated such tolerance in your posts…not.
And if you feel “THREATENED” well that’s just too bad. Keep playing the manly victim magman. It soooooo makes you just what you are.

Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong
01) Being
gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like
eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
02) Gay
marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around
tall people will make you tall.
03)
Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior.
People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and
can sign a marriage contract.
04) Straight
marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still
property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
05)
Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the
sanctity of Britany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be
destroyed.
06)
Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples,
infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our
orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.
07)
Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only
raise straight children.
08) Gay
marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of
one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one
religion in America.
09)
Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home.
That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise
children.
10) Gay
marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new
social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy,
or longer life spans.
LOVE IT ….LOVE……IIITTT !!!!!!
Homophobics fear their repressed
homosexuality. A study appearing in the
August 1996 issue of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, published by the
American Psychological Association (APA), provides new empirical evidence that
is consistent with that theory.
Researchers at the University of Georgia
conducted an experiment involving 35 homophobic men and 29 nonhomophobic men as
measured by the Index of Homophobia scale. All the participants selected for
the study described themselves as exclusively heterosexual both in terms of
sexual arousal and experience.
Each participant was exposed to sexually
explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual and lesbian
videotapes (but not necessarily in that order). Their degree of sexual arousal
was measured by penile plethysmography, which precisely measures and records
male tumescence.
Men in both groups were aroused by about the same
degree by the video depicting heterosexual sexual behavior and by the video showing
two women engaged in sexual behavior. The only significant difference in degree
of arousal between the two groups occurred when they viewed the video depicting
male homosexual sex: ‘The homophobic men showed a significant increase in
penile circumference to the male homosexual video, but the control
[nonhomophobic] men did not.’
Broken down further, the measurements showed that
while 66% of the nonhomophobic group showed no significant tumescence while
watching the male homosexual video, only 20% of the homophobic men showed
little or no evidence of arousal. Similarly, while 24% of the nonhomophobic men
showed definite tumescence while watching the homosexual video, 54% of the
homophobic men did.
When asked to give their own subjective
assessment of the degree to which they were aroused by watching each of the
three videos, men in both groups gave answers that tracked fairly closely with
the results of the objective physiological measurement, with one exception: the
homophobic men significantly underestimated their degree of arousal by the male
homosexual video.
WOW !!!!! YOU GO and Get ‘Em !!!
Did you read all about why you have this overarching obsession with “gay sex,” little gun boy?
Here is the URL for that study:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2010/05/05/the-christian-rights-gay-problem.html
And here’s another study that shows the same thing:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8772014
When someone tries to defend the homosexual
lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly
states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you,
however, regarding some of the laws and how to follow them.
a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing
odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor
is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7.
In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
c) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female,
provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims
that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I
own Canadians?
d) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly
states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
e) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination
(Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can
you settle this?
f) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a
defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision
have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
g) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around
their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should
they die?
h) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
i) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops
in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different
kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme
a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the
whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16). Couldn’t we just burn them
to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their
in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
AWESOME !!! Gimme some More !!
Actually, If I were to be castigating, criticizing or condemning ANY of our former Rebublican leaders (from the top down) then the BDN/DISQUS moderators would just let it slide on through.
However, considering the fact that I, 357magman, have chosen to take on the Liberal SACRED Cow = HOMOSEXUALITY AGENDA !!!… then my free speech opinion is no longer allowed without observation, selection & decisions being made by some others IF it is to be allowed.

God-reference, Guns, and lots of testosterone made America become the most backward of the countries in the Western civilization sphere. And you got an additional win: You are the laughingstock of us all!
Do you really think that this copy/paste of the same incoherent ranting helps make your point?
I think it helps make ours.
We know that the anti-gay cult NOM was turned down by the US Supreme Court where NOM went to try to be allowed to VIOLATE Maine campaign finance and disclosure laws. Will NOM sneak into Maine and violate the LAW again?
I believe they will, yes.
These denominations have married same gender couples in 7 US States and the District of Columbia:
The Episcopal Church
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Metropolitan Community Church
Reform Judaism
Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)
Unitarian Universalist Church
United Church of Christ
Why would same gender American couples want to get married in the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, or ANY skanky anti-gay hate cult that pretends to be a “church” so they can avoid taxes?
Last year, the Gallup poll of May 5-8, the CNN poll of April 19, the ABC-Washington Post poll of March 18, the AP-National Constitutional Center poll of Aug. 19-22 and the Pew Poll ALL show a clear and rapidly increasing majority of Americans support marriage equality.

Since then, several respected polls have shown that support has grown 5-7%.
They are all owned by liberals, so they don’t count!!
It’s time to list the many great victories Americans have had in our fight to establish full, nationwide marriage equality for LGBT Americans in the month of February 2012 alone:
1) Washington State has signed full marriage equality into law.
2) Maryland’s state legislature has passed the bill for full marriage equality, and Maryland’s governor will sign it Thursday.
3) New Jersey’s state legislature has passed the bill for full marriage equality. The cowardly governor is ignoring the wishes of a majority of New Jersey voters.
4) The 9th Circuit US Court of Appeals has confirmed the revocation of the 2008 California anti-gay H8te Vote.
5) The 9th Circuit has also rejected the personal attacks anti-gays made on the judge who wrote the original ruling they confirmed.
6) For a second time and in a different Circuit, a federal court has declared DOMA unconstitutional.
7) The United States Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal from the anti-gay cult “NOM” who want a “special right” to violate campaign finance and disclosure laws.
8) Californians support marriage equality by 59% while only 34% still want to violate the US Constitution’s guarantee of Equal Protection Under the Law.
Of course, while most Americans are proud of these achievements, anti-gays view them as such crushing defeats that they are unable to admit these 8 things have happened.
James,
Any reputable psychiatrist would tell you that your gay son or daughter IF gay, do not need fixing, that they are not ill, that they are normal, that their lives are OK and of value and that the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its list of psychiatric illnesses years ago. I kindly suggest that you need to understand this issue of gay offspring better.
So which society has been able to succeed in producing “normal” lives, James? How come all of the different societies throughout world history have still always produced gay people? From every religion, race, ethnicity, income bracket, country, tribe, city, farm… there have been documented gay people. Even when the gay people are threatened, abused and abandoned, they are still there. At some point you have to say hmmm?
Your ignorance hurts my eyes. That is all.
Which verses and in what context?
What?!? One of you arguments against granting a group the right to marry is that someone is going to use it in some scam? I’m sorry for acting so arrogant in my responses to you but you are completely irrational.
Uuhm, people are birds or bees. I know it is a metaphor. But it is a poorly chosen one.
