GREENBUSH – Thelma M. Doane, 80, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at her home. She was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Cardville, daughter of Lewis and Gertrude (Springer) Kennedy.

Thelma was born and raised in the Cardville/Greenbush area. She was an active member of Enfield Church of God, which became an even bigger part of her life in the last few years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her face would just light up when she would talk of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and was known for the baby sets she would make. She also was an excellent cook and baker, who could please many friends with a plate of her filled date and raisin cookies around the holidays. Thelma could be found by her computer, either playing a game, burning CDs or even making a birthday card for one of her grandchildren. Her family and friends were a huge part of her life, and the one thing that kept her going was having lunch every day with her twin sister and husband.

Thelma is survived by three daughters, Linda Emerson and husband, Joe, Alvina Bean and husband, Frank, and Laura Hutchings and husband, Gary, all of Greenbush; four grandchildren, Jeremy Bean and his fiancee, Jenn Black, Tori Bean and wife, Ann, Kendall Emerson and wife, Cathy, and Tara Knight; and six great-grandchildren, Julia Haverstick, Kiairah Knight, Frankie Bean, Aidriana Doane, Isbella Bean and Isaiah St. Peter. She is also survived by her twin sister, Velma Howard and husband, Merle, of Greenbush; stepbrother, Donald Springer; stepsister, Lillian Welch; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her aunt, Albra Kennedy, who was like a second mother to her as she raised her; stepsisters, Arlene Levesque and Roberta MacClaine; and stepbrother, Charles Springer Jr.

Family and friends are invited to call 1-2 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. with Pastor Fowler officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma’s honor may be made to CancerCare of Maine, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402.

Interment will be in the spring at Cardville Cemetery, Greenbush. Notes of condolences may be left at
