KENDUSKEAG, Maine — A Bangor woman and her three small children escaped injury Thursday morning when their car struck a telephone pole on Route 15.
Heather Curtis, 35, was northbound on Route 15 just south of Stetson Road when she overcorrected her Chrysler sedan and it left the roadway and struck the pole head-on near Whitney Lane before settling in a ditch, according to Deputy Mark Lloyd of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
The call came in to dispatch at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, the deputy said, and power lines were draped across the road, resulting in traffic being backed up in both directions.
Curtis’ car was a total loss and both air bags deployed. Lloyd said it was unclear whether speed was a factor in the crash. A tow truck pulled the car out of the ditch.
The speed limit in the area of Route 15 where the accident occurred is 35 mph.
In addition to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, fire crews from Kenduskeag responded while Capital Ambulance checked out Curtis and the children at the scene.
Crews from Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. were called in to tend to the downed power lines.
