WALDOBORO, Maine — A 41-year-old Waldoboro man was arrested Wednesday night and charged with trying to rob a bank in Waldoboro earlier in the day.

Carroll B. Demmons was arrested at 11:45 p.m. at a residence on Bremen Road. Waldoboro police and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant to search the residence and seize undisclosed evidence, according to the Waldoboro department.

Police responded at about noon to a call on an attempted robbery at the Camden National Bank branch office in Waldoboro. A bank employee had observed a man walking out of the woods wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and sunglasses with his hood pulled up over his head. The man ran toward the bank but the staff locked the doors, preventing him from entering the building.

Bank staff immediately called 911 as the man then ran back into the woods.

There were no customers in the bank at the time.

Members of the Waldoboro Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Marine Patrol and Maine Warden Service responded. The area was quickly secured and a police K-9 was used to search the area, Waldoboro police reported. Police did not immediately reveal what evidence led them to the Bremen Road residence.

Demmons was taken to the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. He may make an initial appearance in court by videoconference on Friday, March 9, according to 6th District Court in Wiscasset.

  1. Walking out of the woods dressed in the official bank robber outfit will tip them off every time.

    1. Well, he could have been being chased by a bear, or a moose. Oh wait, it was only around 60 degrees and sunny yesterday. Perhaps he was concerned about sunburn and had a skii mask on for prevention?

LOLOL. Honestly, police don’t need to be smart when you have idiots like this bank robber wannabe. :D

  2. Get ready for the “He didn’t do anything wrong and so the police shouldn’t have arrested him” crew to come out of the woodwork.

    1. Of course.  From what we know, he didn’t enter the bank, or brandish a weapon.  So, he’s arrested for wearing a “bank robber outfit”.  His lawyers will be all over it.

Now, before anyone jumps down my throat – yes it’s pretty obvious what he intended to do.  Just pointing out what the slime-ball lawyers will use as a defense.

    2.  well he didn’t do anything, its not agaist the law to walk out of the woods in a skimask, was he going to rob the bank most likely, but he didn’t therefore he should not be arrested.and noones coming out of the woodwork if they can get away with this whats next arresting people for what they think?

      1. Youre right he didnt actually DO anything wrong but it appears in the article that they found an undisclosed item which led them to this guy and Im sure they found stuff in his house or whatnot there has to be an underlining reason to why they arrested him. Maybe not you never know around here anymore!

      2. didn’t do anything??? CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT BANK ROBBERY is most definitly a crime, his actions showed what he planned to do. by walking out of the woods dressed in a skimask and what ever elses on the warmest day so far this winter, running for the door of the bank until realizing it was locked then cowarding back to the woods… shows enough intent for me, hopefully for him people like ME are not on the jury….

  3. GOOD THING LAW ENFORCEMENT CANT READ PEOPLES MINDS AND ARREST THEM FOR WHAT THEY ARE THINKING OTHERWISE WE WOULD HAVE TO BUILD BIGGER JAILS !

  4. So you can not go  jogging with a sky mask? Can they prove he was going to rob the bank? Like the time when the buzzer when off at lowes after I paid for the stuff I hurried away . Let them try to say i stole something when I did not . Catch a thief fine but just have proof first.

    1. what about the undisclosed thing that they found to link anything to him? theres got to be more to the story that BDN didnt write or werent told

  5. often wondered why they didnt have a rotating door, with electric high speed locks in a vestibule  to prevent them from leaving or entering .

  6. “Your honor, my client was merely trying to protect himself from deer ticks.”

mind you, tick bites can be pretty nasti.

  7. This would have made a hilarious YouTube video!  All kidding aside, this bank employee did and awesome job and deserves some type of recognition!

  8. Some of the worst bank financial losses occur via loans made in the CC Clubhouse.  I know.

  9. Sounds like maybe he dropped something in the woods that helped the cops a lot. Probably his holdup note written on a the back of a his property tax bill.

  10. It’s obvious that he was out fiddleheading and was dressed like that due to the swarms of blackflies. He probably came to the bank to offer the employees some freshly picked fiddleheads.

“… the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant to search the residence and seize undisclosed evidence.”

Poor guy didn’t even get to enjoy his first feast of this seasons tasty fiddleheads.

  11. Fast thinking by the employee but I’m glad he didn’t start shooting or something.  These bank / credit union robberies are getting out of control.  Scary.
