MONSON, Maine — A final public forum with Piscataquis County Economic Development Council in conjunction with the Western Mountain Alliance will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the Monson Community Center.

The last of a series of forums is focused on exploring land use and the potential effect of new LURC legislation in western Maine’s Unorganized Territory. The forums feature a broad range of presenters including residential and woodlot property owners, policy experts and tourism interests.

In 2011, the LURC Reform Commission charged with making recommendations to improve the Land Use Regulation Commission released its suggestions. A small state agency with oversight for more than 10 million acres in Maine’s Unorganized Territory, LURC is responsible for permitting projects such as new home development, as well as resort and large-scale wind projects.

Panelists will include LURC Reform Committee member and Greenville Town Manager Gary Lamb, board member of the Natural Resources Council of Maine Norton Lamb, Steve Tatko of the Appalachian Mountain Club and LURC planner Hugh Coxe.

RSVPs are requested by March 24 to Janet Sawyer, business development director of PCEDC, 564-3638 or email
