PORTLAND, Maine — Former independent Gov. Angus King said Friday he supports President Barack Obama’s re-election bid but that doesn’t mean he’d caucus with Democrats if elected to the U.S. Senate.

“This year, seeing the likely alternatives, I think the president should be re-elected,” King told The Associated Press.

But King, a former Democrat, hastened to point out that in the past he’s also supported Republicans, including George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential race. He said, “I call ’em as I see ’em.”

Without offering evidence, some Republicans in Washington accused King this week of cutting a deal with Democrats in exchange for U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree bowing out of the race. Pingree dropped out on Wednesday, the day after King announced he’s entering the race.

“I can tell you that’s complete hogwash,” King said.

King said there will be no decision with whom to caucus — Republicans, Democrats or neither — until after his arrival in Washington. And then, he said, “I’m going to base that decision on what makes me a more effective senator for Maine.”

Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe’s announcement last week that she wouldn’t seek re-election set off a scramble because candidates for the soon-to-be empty seat face a March 15 deadline to submit 2,000 signatures to get on the June primary ballot.

Snowe cited excessive partisanship in her decision to retire from the Senate, and King characterized himself as the antidote to partisanship.

As an independent, King said he’d be beholden to neither party, so he could work from the center to bring about consensus among Republicans and Democrats.

It’s unclear who among the major parties will be vying against each other in the June primaries to face King in a three-way race in November.

Democrat John Baldacci, a former two-term governor and four-term congressman, is considering joining a field that includes four previously announced candidates: former Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, state Rep. John Hinck, state Sen. Sen. Cynthia Dill and home builder Ben Pollard.

On the GOP side, Scott D’Amboise, of Lisbon Falls, could be joined by Treasurer Bruce Poliquin, Attorney General William Schneider, Secretary of State Charlie Summers, state Sen. Debra Plowman, of Hampden, and former state Sen. Rick Bennett, all of whom have expressed interest.

  1. Well, now I know who im NOT voting for if he runs for Snowe’s seat…. I might have actually considered King, but by supporting ohbummer, he has lost my vote.

    1.  sorry for you obama will easly win. romney being against auto bailout is not going to play well in ohio. no chance for romney without ohio

      1. And don’t forget Romney was behind many companies being bought, merged with others and mass layoffs for the “redundant” workers. He’s a huge part of today’s problem with high unemployment. He’s a huge reason why high paying jobs were lost forever. If they must have a GOP candidate, Romney isn’t the guy to trust.

        1. Funny how more companies made it after romney, then failed, does he get credit for that, if so how many green companies have failed under obama?  its ok if you take off your shoes to count. at least romney did not use tax payers money to fail with.

      2. Actually … Romney will have a problem with the Media, after they make him the Republican candidate.

    2. His support of obama shows that Mr. King is not mentally stable enough to hold public office.

        1. “Mr Bush… Who left the mess to begin with? ”

Does flagrant, head in the sand ignorance really require a pervasive, repeated display that has now reached the point of utter inanity?

          1. Are we going to rewrite history now?  This mess was caused by the failed policies of Bush, Bush, And Reagan.  And the failed congress under the Republicans for 10 plus years……NEVER AGAIN>

          2. No … The problem we have is the result of the policies of Wilson, Roosevelt, Johnson … it has been comming for a long time.

          1. Obama, Pelosi, Reid had the majority for 2009, 2010 we got:  cash for clunkers, Obamacare with out time to read the legislation, bailout after bailout, Solandra, more debt than ALL past Administrations combined!! Czar this and that, socialism run amuck…

          2. Socialism has run so amok in Canada that the economy is booming, people are happy and healthy, and they even are kind to each other, even when they disagree.

          3.  Um… Canada currently has a moderately Conservative government, not a left of center (centre) one. That might account for some of the economic boom. By the way, although I am a U.S. citizen and Maine voter, I currently live in Canada.

          4. Can you name a person from one of these studies that died from having been denied access to healthcare? Please just one person named in one of these studies. Or are they all coulda woulda shoulda statistics?

          5.  As usual you are far of the mark. The Canadian government supports their business sector. Booming Alberta is an example. The Democrats with their anti-business anti- cheap energy policy is unlike what is happening in Canada.
You really have no idea whats happening in other countries. You barely understand what is happening in yours.

          6. I’m glad you agree that national healthcare can be part of a booming economy.  Your insults, though, only tarnish your dignity and believability.

          7. Yep, the government can be all things for all people.

Worked well in the USSR, East Germany, Greece, France …

          8. You’re cherry-picking.  Forbes magazine says the nine happiest countries in the world all have generous welfare benefits, and mixed economies.

          9.  The cash for clunkers program took thousands of second hand autos off the market raising the prices for moderate income second hand buyers effectively taking them out of the market.

        2. We need to  understand the “Gravity” of the situation!

Bush drove us off the cliff into freefall.

Obama is trying to pull us back up “against” the forces that pulled us down.

          1. Did you ever take a course in Physics….or even grammar school science?

Here’s your homework…multiply the number of people who live in the United States of America by the average weight per American. Do you think a Volt is able to pull all of us up the cliff against the force of gravity? How long would the electric/gas fuel hold out? What if all of us got half way up the cliff and then the Volt ran out of fuel or caught on fire?

Further, of course, many of us know how much sales of Volts have contributed to the tax base relative to projections.

            Any other questions?

          2. They stopped production because the car is not selling.  The money that Chevy was getting from the government to help with building and future development of  the car has stopped as well. So when Nobama talks about how successful the Volt is .  I would put it as on the list with Solyndra, now Siga which got huge Obama bucks to develop certain vaccines , along with other bailouts.  It has all failed while being a boondoggle for taxpayers.  That is the Change Liberals want.

          3. Junk, you of course haven’t heard about the fires, or the real fact about mileage. 40 mile battery goes dead, you drive it 40 more and get 60 MPG average. If you choose to drive it any further you will now get less mileage than the Chevy Cruze. GM was forced to actually put the facts on thier web site. Check it out. You will of course have to read all the way to the bottom where they attempt to hide it in very small print.

          4. HERITAGE FOUNDATION’S healthcare law

            Have you heard?

Conservatives want to repeal it, which means it was only a smoke screen contingency plan to begin with, designed to thwart a real national health care plan.

    3. Bad,Bad choice…saddest part is neither one runnin for pres. is worth a bag of crap..we are so screwed

    4. Obama has my vote,    King never did when he was governor, nor would he in a Senate race.  Either way, I’m cancelling both of your votes out

  2. Does Augus really know what he wants. He screwed up the State of Maine and know wants go to Washington DC and really do some damage. Just another blow heart to listen to. With him and Susan putting there brains together they might come up with one if they really try hard enough.

  3. I beg John Baldacci to run so these two liberals can split the vote and a real American can win.

      1.  The 61% complain as a lifestyle choice. It doesn’t matter who is in power. That’s why they call it the Nanny State.

      2.  Let them complain.  Who gives a bleep?  lol  My kids complain about bedtime every night and they outnumber their parents but guess what?  They don’t have the power!

      3. Actually it would be 6 years of the Welfare Crowd crying unfortunately.  Hopefully Baldy and King lose, Gay Marriage II  heads to massive defeat, Nobama goes down to defeat, along with Democrats not winning back the Legislature.  The Liberals would have a meltdown.

    1. The reality of one’s Americanness is not determined by one’s political views.
I am sick of the “real American” and “real Mainer” comments. We’re all Americans, whether our ancestors arrived on the Mayflower, over the Bering land bridge, or on a student visa from Kenya.
Partisan comments like yours, from either side,  make this real American liberal more likely to vote for a centrist like King in November.

      1. The reality of one’s Americanness is not determined by one’s
genes. Real Americans sign on for the singular abstract that unites all other
Americans and Mainers…the pledge to the United
States of America . People who willingly choose to un-homogenize are part of the
        problem instead of the solution.

My flag will not be compromised…and owes no
        apology.

        1. I’d invite you over to see my big American flag, but you probably wouldn’t like the unhomogenized milk I’d offer you in your coffee.

          1. I celebrate and respect your choice to fly the American flag. However, you cannot deny that there are way too many people in this country who would rather burn one than raise one.

    1. Didn’t you hear? the Dem’s are not going to front a candidate, they don’t want a repaeat of lepage on a national level.

  4. I was all set to endorse King. He just lost my vote and I hope many, many Mainers reconsider their support for him. How sad.

    1. Don’t worry.  He will flip flop and say he has reconsidered when his comrade in the elitist world of multimillionaires, Mitt Romney, comes knocking.

  5. David Sharp and the AP:  hackin’ and spinnin’ all day long!! LOL

“He won’t caucus with the Dems!! He won’t caucus with the Dems!! Don’t take this to mean he’s a lib!! Don’t pay attention to the truth! Go back to sleep!!”
    LOL

  6. King came out for Obama in 2008, so this is no surprise. Obama and King will both carry Maine in 2012.

  7. ‘Former independent Gov. Angus King said Friday he supports President Barack Obama’s re-election bid’………..

    Just lost my vote.

    1. Oh and you want a return of Bush/Chenney? 2 wars and a wrecked economy?  Newt tells me he wants 2.50 gallon in gas… but doesn’t tell you he will invade Iran which will give up $5/ gallon gas as soon as he does…

      1. yeah, because whether or not we bomb other countries back to the stone age most certainly determines the price of gasoline…I mean, that’s simple economics

        what are you smokin’ Hank?

      2.  No, instead we can have Obama with 5 wars, and a decimated economy.  Did you notice while you were drunk on Obama Koolaid that the wars have expanded?  The police state has expanded, and things have gotten worse.

        1. Gotten worse? Check the numbers, watch the news, and stop hating.  Obama has begun the LONG climb out of recession, and has done a fine job.  He hasn’t “expanded wars,” he’s using smart power to take care of more issues internationally without putting troops as many troops at risk, and SAVING MONEY.  Decimated economy? look at 2008.  Did you really think, under ANY president, that we’d suddenly soar out of recession?  No.

    2. That’s just great, Angus. Why did you feel it necessary to divulge that? You are running for the Senate and supposedly as an Independent. You have accomplished nothing with this, except perhaps become a pariah with a good portion of the electorate. Poor judgment, already !

      1. Angus has proved what all of us knew what he has been for years .  A Socialist Liberal Democrat who is tied to Nobama, Pelosi and Reid , with his buddy Eliot Cutler marching right behind him.
He did nothing while as Governor but drive out jobs, massive debts,  expanding welfare.  The Laptop Program which is a massive failure and waste of taxpayers dollars.  If he wins this office he will be a 1 term senator who will vote the Obama-Reid-Pelosi agenda marching our way to complete socialism and a nanny goverment.

  8. All that Green energy windmill money comes from Obama into Kings Pockets..  To think that Kings run for office is anything but self serving ought to look where King gets his money…UBS hides these peoples money… only the so called regular folks report all their earning

  9. yea rigggghht Angus you wouldnt caucus with the D’s Just like your laptop plan was cheap. You are a liberal wearing an Independent’s coat. Be honest with the voting public run as a D or not at all Using a ploy like running as an Independent  is cowardice and political. You never whole in office showed any conservitive leanings or tendencies.

    1. wait…. if you have a Volt to sell that means at some point you bought a Volt.     …sucker

  10. Didnt king Angus make his money the first time around with water heater blankets? Oh gee where did that money come from

  11. If the President stopped walking suddenly, Angus King would suffer a broken nose.

  12. Yada. Yada. Yada. I won’t vote for anyone until I know where they stand on the issues. So far all I read is that the former governor might side with the Democrats or he might side with the Republicans. But what about the issues, governor?

  13. If King is smart enough to recognize that Obama is doing a good job for us in spite of all the lead booted Republicans trying to drag him down, then he has my vote. It proves that he is not racist, dumb, misinformed, nor suffers from tea party bloat. Go Angus.

    1. The tea party is as strong as ever, we are just out of your sights.. I want angus to run against J Baldacci  and we will place another repub in office… we are taking the country back. thanks for your support!! (-:

      1.  I love how liberal can be racist and derogatory to women all day long in the media and politics without accountability yet they dare call conservatives “racist” for not support Obama because we hate socialism.

      2.  Ever.

We could move the discussion away from “race” by referring to those who love Obama as “Gimme-Americans”.

    2. He may have been smart at one time but anyone who
would think this president has done a good job either
is blind, uninformed, is an occupier or just watches too
much MSNBC. The only racists whining about racism
are the ones supporting Obama because that is all they
can try to use. Sorry, it don’t work anymore.

    3.  If you believe Obama is doing a good job, I have some prime real estate on the Moon for sale.

  14. Unless there is another 49-49-2 split, being an independent in the senate is an exercise in epic impotence.  We may as well send that 25lb lobster to washington, he would get more attention creeping around his tank.

    1. thats not a bad idea. granted the lobster wont do much, but its all the less for him to wreck!

      Pinchy for Senate!

  15. It has become apparent that Pres. Obama and Ron Paul are the only sensible adults running for the Presidential office.

  16. Of course Angus King will caucus with the D’s–he changed his registration from Democrat to Independent, and has retained the former distinction in his political thinking.   Joe Lieberman switched to Independent and caucused with his party, but the R’s had thought he might do so with them–of course he would not!

  17. King is an arrogant Obama , Al Gore Green Profiteer phony.  The common denominator is they all are the smartest guy in the room and they all attract dummies.

  18.  Angus King is like most “Independents” in Maine – a socialist clown presenting the facade of some type of real change that differentiates them from the two major parties.  I trust he has a better chance then Obama, all the good liberals won’t be singing songs about their spineless leader come November 2012 with $5 gallon gas all this summer.

  19. Dear Angus, if you want to do whats best for the state of Maine, then quit talking and stay out of Washington please, help us save what is left of the state. thank you!

  20. For King to back Obama for re-election is to display a shocking lack of common sense and good judgement. We do not need  this man representing us in the Senate.

  21. The guy took a victory lap around the country in his 40 foot RV that gets 15 gallons to the mile and now he lectures the rest us on energy and conservation. The ultimate phony.

  22. Angus you have damaged this state enough by stealing taxpayer dollars for your green energy windmill scams!  How about we taxpayers subsidize a bus ticket for you to move to California where you belong!

    1. look into state leases during his gov.  you will find his frineds getting leases for buildings the state replaced by leasing.

  23. Isn’t America great.  So many post have decide who’s best for the State (and the country) on one statement by a candidate.  I guess all those now opposed to King were only going to support him if he had supported their candidate for dog catcher.
Too many people are sipping the kool-aid without hearing from a single candidate on how to address the debt, U.S./international involvements, business/consumer/labor advocacy, the international educational gap, the military industrial complex’s increasing costs to taxpayers, out-sourcing of military responsibility to private corporations, protection of the country from enemies, including terrorists, foreign and domestic, an affordable health system, rather women and the medical profession – or, politicians, employer, ministers or priests decide their health coverage.
I’m supporting Angus because of how he feels on a number of the issues I listed, and others, because he is the one individual who will not be swayed by either U.S. Senator Harry Reid nor Mitch McConnell, two individuals who current interest is to not let the other side win on anything, rather it’s good for the country or not.  Angus, like him or dislike him, is an individual for the times we find America (and Maine) in.

    1. The biggest burden on U.S. taxpayers by far is entitlement programs!  Stealing from those that have to give to those who have not, regardless of whether they truly deserve it.

    2. This is what is wrong with the American political scene. You are supporting this man because of the way you feel. Our future shouldn’t be based upon the sentiments of a chick flick mentality.

  24. The real question is whether any candidate for Snowe’s seat will pledge to ensure there is enough federal funding so the Amtrak train is extended to Brunswick and Lewiston. There’s your votes.

Millions for obsolete  atomic submarines, but not one cent for the health care of the people who built them.

    Is not a good slogan.

  25. I think that Mr King’s thoughts are correct… I think he represents an independent and centrist ideal.   the moderate center is disappearing in Washington… polarization is what made many moderate republicans flee…  Maine needs to stand up and lead… and say no to partisan politics… we need to get things done…

  26. Well, that wolf shed his sheep’s clothing in a hurry … lucky for us!  No surprise, because despite his declarations of independent *cough* his roots have long grown towards the left with liberal bend.

  27. Do we really want this for our country? He will support Obama!
America needs serious change. Most of the “Deadwood” needs to be removed. Don’t add to the pile!

  28. This state is getting rid of a RINO for an independent that is supporting the re-election of that disgrace of an American in the white house. My fellow Mainers, don’t support this interstate interloper

  29. King’s real appeal is as an independent without an allegiance to a political party.  How does this make him different than Snowe?  This statement makes me question King’s political insight and  look at his record as Governor and after wards.  As Governor he tried to over rule regulatory personnel on a favored wind project and then was an active developer.  King also made his fortune while taking advantage of his wife’s position as a lobbyist.  We now have to question King as a very well defined politician who does not seem to question Obama’s inconsistencies.  Snowe’s departure has resulted in better choices on both sides and maybe another independent(s) will jump into the race.  King will not snow the voters.

  30. A faux pas? Hardly, but after years of deceit and self-enrichment heaped upon the back of taxpayers, King can no longer hide his true emotions. Homosexuals, welfare recipients, anti-gun activists and social re-distribution proponents rouse a  loud cheer for this insignificant kernel of nothingness as he prepares to tread upon the remnant of Mainers who get up every morning to earn a living the old fashion way.

  31. Well you just lost our votes. Would have considered you to replace Snowe, not if you support Obomba.

  32. A fool in the White House who has soiled America’s integrity with impunity… and now comes a willing minion whose own record of despoiling Maine’s environment can leave no doubt that only two more riders are missing from this apocalyptic rending.

  33. A self serving political hack whose interests are self promotion and self enrichment and who will not represent Mainers in an effective manner. Anyone but King, the Hypocrite!

  34. President Obama is going to win re-election.
I wanted a Democratic senator but King will win because R’s in Maine are riding in the same clown car as the Repub presidential candidates.
King is going to win because he will pick up the independent vote, the tea party is either dead, or has become a “walker”, and Dems won’t vote R and will vote I just to keep out another false moderate like Snowe.

    1. You hit the nail on the dumb head!!!! Not getting my vote Anis-We all know what an anis you are. You have stolen from Mainers long enough go away, far far away and never return. Sound familiar-from the lying King.

  35. It seems that key words stop your post so the censors can review your remarks. Words like l  u  n  a t  i  c   and n  u  t    j  o  b   and i  d  i  o  t    are not allowed.

  36. surprise, surprise????….
….he does know how to play people, like most politicians.  And I still say Olympia got out before the you know what hit the fan about Jocks investments??  Why else would she not run (if she knew she could win) and then resign with a Republican Governor to appoint another Republican?  Something fishy in all this!!.  She is handing it to a Democrat?  Oh, excuse me, an Independent!!!!….
And the politicians can-not for the life of them figure out why more people are getting fed up with them everyday!!!   Jeez!!…lol

    1.  I suspect Olympia left because she was concerned that she might lose to Scott D’Amboise. Better to leave as a ‘victim’ of partisanship, than have the embarrassment of being knocked out in the Republican Primary.

  37. I’m not surprised at all at King’s endorsement of Obama, he is 90% Democrat and possibly 10% Rino!

  38. Well, here I was thinking that I knew who I would be voting for.  Thanks, Angus, for coming clean before I messed up and voted for you.

  39. Few comment left out when answering dolbylandfill, So ANIS is your wife still a lobbiest and will she factor into your decisions if you make it to office? You say no???? well here is one voter who thinks you speak with a fork tongue. So slither back to the dark hole you crawled out of now!

  40. Angus King was a high spending governor who was lucky to be in office during a time of great prosperity!  How he can continue to support Obama is a real mystery, especially if he wants to win support from independents and republicans!

  41. King’s endorsement of the president’s re-election bid immediately triggered the typical tea party republican myopic response.

Any topic , be it about the DHHS, Le Page, Limbaugh, pot holes – whatever – triggers an attack on Obama by the radical right wing.  King’s support for Obama is all they need.

The right is unable to understand,  and naturally will not accept any responsibility for the almost disastrous mess they left this country in.   Worse is that they continue to block all attempts to straighten it out.  We should acknowledge that we are slowly extricating ourselves from the worst recession since the 20s.  Impossible:  It’s Obama’s fault.

Almost half of the debt the country has is because of republican mismanagement.  It was Bush who initiated NAFTA., and two wars – one based on false information.  The housing crisis and Wall Street bailout were also dumped on Obama’s front door step.  Bush gave the oil companies unbelievable tax breaks.   The super rich were also blessed with fantastic tax breaks.  So big, even the rich folk couldn’t believe it.  For three years the only method to get passage of a bill is to continue these ridiculous tax breaks.   If not, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner will bring the republican and tea party people out to defeat it.  McConnell has spent the last three years mired in the vengeful role as a man possessed with just one goal: To make sure Obama does not get re-elected.  As for Kentucky – his home state – and the rest of the United States – the unemployed, the foreclosures, jobs – he doesn’t give a hoot.

Soon, King will be on a political swing through the state telling us what he can do better than anyone else – just like the current crop of GOPers seeking nomination.  I hope he can do a better job than the current crop, who blame Obama for everything.

    1. It was the disgraceful Clinton Administration that passed NAFTA, libtards need to go back to school, they flunked Failed Liberal Policies 101

      1. You’re wrong, like your present misfits for office, are.  NAFTA was not mastered
or created by Bill Clinton.  Your own George W. Bush masterminded NAFTA in
concert with the leaders of Canada and Mexico.  They signed the original
        agreement December 17, 1992.

        However, before finalization of the
negotiations, Bill Clinton became president.  Obviously impressed with the
idea, he got the blessings of 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats.  The
measure slid through the Senate approved by 34 republicans and 27 Democrats.

NAFTA became law in 1992.   It was a
joint effort created by George Bush and approved by both republicans and
democrats.   And, as you can see no one was concerned about who was
“Left” or “Right” back then.  They joined arms and
happily approved it.   Total vote by Republicans, 166.  Total vote by
        Democrats, 129.

The Blame Game continues.  Looks like both GOPers and Dems wanted it. Bikll merely inked the agreement.

        1. Please do your homework

NAFTA was pushed thru under The Disgraceful Clinton Administration, was signed 12/8/1993.   Bush Sr left office in 1992 and W came in in 2001.  It was the Democrats under Bill who rode roughshod over manufacturing because they wanted to kill million of Manufacturing jobs, and they did!

“The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is signed into law by President Bill Clinton. Clinton said he hoped the agreement would encourage other nations to work toward a broader world-trade pact.”

          http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/nafta-signed-into-law

          1. Disgraceful, disgusting – Blarney.  It was repukes and dems who pushed it, or voted approval.  Clinton signed it.  Just read the information and then check it yourself.  Both repukes and Dems wanted it.   He signed it.   Who cares what he said?  At the time he thought it was a great idea, just like Bush when he initiated it, and, 166 members of the House and Senate who backed it.   Without Bush’s idea NAFTA would have never been born.  So what?  He thought it was a great idea.   How did he know it wasn’t?  Clinton agreed with him.

There is something more behind a bill, other than just a signature. At least, there used to be.

          2. Well at least we educated you a little here, eh. Now you know who pushed it thru.

You must of been asleep or in diapers back in 1992 when Ross Perrot hammered Clinton relentlessly on this issue.  Bubba lied during the Presidential debates saying what a sweet deal it would be for middle class America, even the stupid Unions(of which I was in one) supported the tool CLinton!  Guess Clinton wanted to make money supporting his cronies, so I guess we could say Clinton started Crony Capitalism before dummy Obama who just copies Bubba!

  42. Anyone who supports Pres. Obama should not be elected.  This man has added more to our debt in 3 years than ALL previous presidents.  And the regulations he has imposed, including those in the healthcare bill, if it survives the Supreme Court, will be crippling to our freedoms as American citizens.

    1. Anyone wants to know about the loss of their freedoms in the Health Care Law go read page 1000

  43. This is a political move to get a reaction. Next week King will come out with a statement softening his support of Obama.

  44. King left office in 2003 after serving for two terms. So the last time he campaigned was in 1998. He is currently 68 years old and has been lecturing at Bowdoin College and has an alternative energy business. In an interview on News Channel 2 with the five governors of Maine King admitted not taking risks to grow Maine’s economy. He said he was new to how state budgets were managed and that held him back.

He left office with a $1.2 billion dollar – that’s billion dollar – structural deficit which represents 20 percent of the state budget, the Rainy Day Fund was empty, and debts to Maine’s hospitals unpaid. This was during a time of prosperity in the nation under the Clinton administration when 22 million jobs were created nationwide. It was under King’s watch Maine’s government shut down and the state government work week was shortened to four days because of budget problems. It took King until his last year in office to finally raise Maine’s minimum wage.

Gov. John Baldacci grew jobs with his Pine tree Zones, bonds for roads
and bridges and research and development. He stood up for Maine’s unions
and all the people of Maine. He left Maine – while the state was
climbing out of the Great Recession – with a Rainy Day fund. He created
our community college system and took on healthcare coverage with the
Dirigo Health Care Act- much of which is now in the national Affordable
Care Act. He didn’t spend a lot of time boasting about these
accomplishments he was too busy doing the work for the people of Maine.

King on the other hand spent a tremendous amount of time with the
press…. Maine Needs a Senator that will accomplish what ME and the country needs, not a thirty second soundbite man.

  45. whine away republicans. but you know what. King will win. if  the republicans had any competent candidates it might be a contest, but since LePage has stumbled on to the scene  the GOP brand stands for incompetence and hate.

  46. I thought King was smart,  why hitch your wagon in public to such a loser as Obama.

Of course anyone with an ounce of brains already knows king is nothing more than a closet liberal hack.  We go from a Rino who pretends she was a Repub to a left liberal who pretends he is a Indy.

Only thing King will do is push for more crony capitlism for his pals buildign windfarms. Think Solara wind farm company goes to Maine.  Another Charlaton Scam artist!

  47. This is directed to, NOTPOLITICALCORRECT……….What is an: “Anis?” ( Webster’s says; unequal)…do you think learning to spell might help make your point better?

  48. Why would anyone be surprised than King would support NObama. After all he’s made a fortune at the taxpayers expense with the “Green Energy” wind scam the democrats keep throwing billions at.

    1. Yes, I can see your point. He should of endorsed Willard Mittens Romney….. the man who can’t make up his own mind on any subject he has been asked about more than once. Or maybe he should have endorsed Santorum….. the man who wants to abandon our Democracy for the will of the Pope. Or how about Newton Gingrich…..The man who wants to make the moon into the 51st (red) state. And don’t forget Ron Paul who wants to us to go back to the same failed monetary policies that led us into the Great Depression.  Yes….What possible reason could King have had for endorsing President Obama ?

  49. Indepedant . . . ya, me too!  What a joke.  I’m glad that’s been disclosed.  That will change a lot of things.

  50. Naaah, Agnus will be caucusing with the Republicans, or maybe with the Independents; Sanders and Leiberman.

Oh,  … Leiberman is not running again, he will just join Saunders.

  51. He is a bigger liberal thank pingree only well hiddden… look what he did for the state..NOTHING
gave kids lap tops so they could add and subtract…and pass standard tests
