HAMPDEN – Dennis Joseph O’Mara, 76, our father, went to heaven March 7, 2012, at home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Binghamton, N.Y., the beloved son of Joseph and Ethel O’Mara.

After graduating high school Dennis served four years in Army Intelligence overseas. Upon leaving the Army he was employed by Delta Airlines for more than 30 years and spent many of those years in Delta operations in Bangor. Our father taught us the value of life and living for today, the excitement of what surrounds us every day and the beauty of the world. It is sad that he has left this world, but his impressions are firmly entrenched in everyone that knew and loved our father. For it is within him that he knew the joy of living and embracing life and as such we are confident in his entering heaven in God’s embrace. Dennis was an artist and painter with hundreds of paintings sold and enjoyed by so many, who spent much of his free time gardening and enjoying nature and the great outdoors.

He was predeceased by his loving father, mother; and loving partner, Carol Daigle. He is survived by his children, Joseph Arthur O’Mara, Jim O’Mara, Thomas Bernard O’Mara, Kathleen Ann O’Mara and Rhonda Jo Schrader; and six grandchildren, Kelley O’Mara, Amanda and Ryan Hoffman, Chelsea O’Mara, Erica and Elizabeth Schrader.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. After the service relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Interment at St. Sebastian’s Cemetery, Madison, will be announced in the spring. Those wishing to remember Dennis may make gifts in his name to Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union St., Suite 220, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
