WALDOBORO, Maine — A fire was extinguished quickly Monday morning at Moody’s Diner during the breakfast rush.
Damage was very minor, said Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer.
The call came into the department at 6:50 a.m. that there was a structure fire at the diner on Route 1 in Waldoboro.
When crews arrived, it was determined that heat had radiated from the cooking top of one of the stoves, through a heat shield and to a stud in the interior wall. He said about 1 cup of water was used to put out the fire.
The crews were gone shortly after 7 a.m. and the restaurant was back to serving its customers, the chief said.

Mhoody’s Dinah, finest kind donchyahknow.
Now serving blackened swordfish steaks.
I’d eat it.
Only one cup of water was used to douse the fire? That’s not much of a fire (thankfully).
A cup of water not much of a fire, I don’t eat there but glad it was put out that easily. Something about waiting to be seated at a truck stop
If you have a flexible schedule, it’s best to eat there during the off hours. Say a late breakfast or early lunch or even an early or late supper.. That’s when there’s not much of a crowd. There’s even less of a crowd during the off season.
From my experience the last time i dined there they could have used their fish chowdah to put the fire out, mostly water and potatoes.
