BANGOR, Maine — United Way of Eastern Maine, the Bangor Housing Authority and area nonprofit groups and volunteers will team up Wednesday to offer a family-friendly event aimed at helping people build a brighter financial future.

“CA$H FOR YOUR FUTURE” is the first of what organizers hope will be an annual offering. It will take place at the Bangor Housing Authority, located at 161 Davis Road, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

During the event, adults can take advantage of activities and programs aimed at connecting low- to moderate-income households with financial, educational and other resources available in the community.

Topics will include managing debt, cutting expenses, starting and using bank accounts, saving for the future, record keeping and household financial risk management. Experts will be on hand to review and provide advice on credit reports.

Meanwhile, children can participate in supervised activities — including open gym and a movie — in the community center, where free food will be served.

Walk-ins are welcome but space is limited. Email danr@unitedwayem.org or call 941-2800 to sign up.

  1. Financial Planning FOR US?? Maybe you should invite the government, I was doing just fine til they spent my money.  As a financial analyst, I know who is to blame and it isn’t me or the average American, yet you would blame us.  You have the wrong clients and I know how to manage debt.
