ROCKLAND, Maine — A Knox County Jail guard has been charged with a crime after he allegedly gave a female inmate a cigarette.
Corrections Officer Adam Grierson, 25, of South Thomaston was issued the summons Saturday for trafficking in prison contraband, Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison said Tuesday.
Grierson has been placed on paid administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted, she said.
The sheriff said there is a state law that prohibits tobacco products in the jail and any tobacco is considered contraband. The summons was issued to the guard by a Knox County deputy.
“We have to take this seriously or small things can turn into bigger things,” the sheriff said.
Grierson has worked at the jail for four years.
Trafficking in tobacco at a jail is a Class E crime with a maximum penalty of six months in jail.
The sheriff said she was unable to provide more details on the case before it goes to court.
Wonder what she did for that cigarette.
