PORTLAND, Maine — A man with felony convictions was arrested early Friday after police discovered he had a weapon on him.
Anthony Dapolito, 35, is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of scheduled drugs, according to Lt. Gary Rogers.
Dapolito, a transient, was hanging out in Monument Square when Officer Richard Ray, who was on patrol, saw Dapolito standing in a doorway and stopped to question him.
“He seemed to be suspicious, and [Ray] happened to notice the handgun in his waistband,” Rogers said.
Dapolito, who also had cocaine on his possession, was quickly taken into custody, Rogers said.
Dapolito was convicted of armed robbery in 2005. He remains at the Cumberland County Jail.

And if we ban law-abiding citizens from gun ownership the issue of hardened criminals carrying guns would magically disappear.
