BANGOR, Maine — An area transient who arrived intoxicated for court on Tuesday was arrested for violating his bail conditions, which bar him from drinking, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Wednesday.

Perry Thornley, 47, arrived at the Penobscot Judicial Center at about noon Tuesday. Police were called a half-hour later to deal with him.

“They located him passed out on the second floor on one of the benches,” Edwards said. “The judge refused to see his case.”

Since October 2009, Thornley has had four convictions for disorderly conduct, four criminal trespassing convictions, four convictions for violating his conditions of release, a conviction for theft by unauthorized taking and one for refusing to submit to arrest or detention, according to Bangor Daily News archives.

He was taken to Penobscot County Jail after his arrest. He entered a guilty plea and was sentenced Wednesday to seven days in jail for the bail violation, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. I hear Arizona is nice this time of year.
Why not fill a few buses with ” transients” and send them our west ?
They sent all the Somolians here.

  2. Slopped to the gills, he still remembered to show up.  That’s more than Paderno’s friend Lisa Gould could do.

  3. Judges kill me. The rest of us have to put up  with profanity, disrespect, abuse, and lies, but don’t you dare do anything like that around a court! Contempt of court? why shouldn’t we all have it?

    1. His behaviors are the symptoms of
      the disease, alchoholism.
Should the judge be proud of himself for sending him to jail instead of to treatment ?

  4. How about kicking him out of Bangor or just keeping him in jail for a very longtime. OOO yes to give him some credit…at least he did show up to court!

  5. 13 convictions since Oct 2009? This burden to society is NOT a transient BDN, he’s a bum getting his three hots and a cot on our dime.  A transient is a person who is staying or working in a place for only a short time.

  6. In the conditions of his bail the words “bar” & “drinking” were used and I’m pretty sure Mr. Thornley just misunderstood…..give the guy a break……
