PORTLAND, Maine — Maine U.S. Senate candidate and former governor Angus King is finding that political campaigns these days are a lot different from the last time he ran for office in 1998 thanks to social media.

Someone has already set up a fake Twitter account using the handle King Angus.

The anonymous holder of the account — @king_angus –mocks King as self-absorbed, self-important and sometimes out of touch.

King, running as an independent, calls the tweeter “a bozo” but says he can’t be bothered by it.

His campaign communications director told The Portland Press Herald that King will focus on the issues important to Maine and the fake Twitter account is just a part of today’s negative political tone.

King’s official website, Facebook page and Twitter account are scheduled to be up soon.

  1. So Angus, you are already at the name calling stage of your campaign,,, It is not fun being called a bozo.

  2. Ten bucks says it’s a tea party goon. Unless Scarcelli is back at it again…

Face it…Angus has it…with or without my vote.

  3. It’s pretty easy to resolve this, Twitter does not allow impersonation, report it to Twitter and the bogus account is banned. Non news, next topic….

  4. Speaking of bozos, has Dynamite Dennis Bailey been seen lately? It’s about time for him to surface for another 15 minutes of fame, isn’t it?
